As you can see Steve was not just insane about conservation, but he was very proud of his land and grateful for the allied support which stopped the planned Japanese invasion of Australia in their tracks.

@GnosticHumanist Wanker! The Australian's had already stopped the Japanese advance at Milne Bay. The Japs shelved their invasion plans after Kokoda, buna and Gona. The American campaigns came later and had no direct effect upon the shelving of those plans. Despite popular mythology to the contrary, Aussies had already defended their home against the Japs. Pity dumb ass Irwin didn't know the truth.

The point is simple, he didn't know the real history of what he was talking about, he didn't know the difference between a Vietnam era weapon and a WW2 weapon, hence the stupid 'M60" statement. Steve was the most real person you would ever see on the tv. ALL his money went back into conservation. Even though he undoubtedly made millions, he still lived in a shitty little shack in the bush so he could be close to the wildlife and crocodiles. You could've given this guy a billion dollars, and he would give it all to conservation and still live in his shack. Now that is GENUINE.
