A had the opportunity to play with Tony at the Montreal Drumfest that same year. We (the band) were just completely blown away by him. And YES he was able to play music. And keep a groove happening and drive a whole band. Since then i have to say i believe in re-incarnation.. No other ways to explain that. And by the way, after 3 or 4 days around french people he was speaking a pretty good french!

I don't think that he can play a set beat for too long, so therefore he lost my vote, anybody can just bang really fast after a little practice, it's a lot harder to play to a set beat and do all of that banging, but he has some real talent, not the best yet, though

Yo 36mobin, doesn't matter if it's a drum SOLO or not, speed is barely half of what matters. What matters most is that this whole solo is great to watch & hear because he plays with feel and its not the same thing over & over.

Yeah, I know yr only 13, I was a 13 year old musician once too so I know that you think speed is where its at, I did too. But the sooner you realize its not the only point, the sooner you'll play like the greats. Good luck dude.

@36mobin Jordison is not awful, but he is very very far from good. It may take some time to get out of phase of "Metal Gods". I had mine at 14 and was all over Bonham, but now I realise he too is overrated. To become a good drummer speed is a tiny part of the puzzle. Feel, tempo, style, groove and technique are the fundamentals. Tony Royster, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Vinnie Colaiuta, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Thomas Lang, Virgil Donati and more.

Speed is pretty much nothing. How are you going to solo if you can only go fast? Solos are a period for a drummer to show their creativity, innovation, technicality and skill. Speed only ruins it. Especially with blast beats. There is little talent to be extracted from that.
