Having built and maintained this exibit I can say with certainty that it is indeed dry ice. It can be viewed in person at the Exploratorium in San Francisco.
Um....having ACTUALLY built this exhibit, I can say that you most certainly didn't. However, it is dry ice and the work can be viewed at the Exploratorium, the Chabot Planetarium, and 8 other science museums around the world.

It's already vaporising before hitting the pool. A metal would not do that.
Also, I remember we did an experiment about it at school - Na or K, I don't remember which - and it was FAR mor explosive.
This is also solid to begin with. Looks very much like dry ice to me.

my question is does the dry ice fumes need to vent, also is the dry ice pre crushed into the little pieces?...
