  • The riff is fucking fantastic, but the bassline is even better. It just takes the riff to another level. Amazing song!

  • Only a select group of people in this world can hear the beauty of SP amazing music

  • The ghost of Hendrix is conjured up in every riff/lead Billy did in the Gish/Siamese Dream era. The Pumpkins were too damn cool.

  • Ugh I was 14 here, wish I could've been there. This song is beautiful and totally captures the 90s alternative sound. Thanks for posting this.

  • SP in all their Glory!

  • 4 dumbass people.

  • Saw s.p. last night @ the riveria they sounded better than ever, Billy is a god, and Mike the new drummer is really fuckin good

  • @avedic I have this EXACT thing.

  • smashing pumpkins RIFFs are a vicious!

  • Billy and James in dresses = <3 No one does it better than the Pumpkins.

  • i dont care how they look, but the music...the memories... man the music!!!

  • I LOVE YOU BILLY :)

  • I remember in the early 90's wanting this song. I liked it so much it hurt. It wasn't on any of the regular SP albums, so I eventually had to find the soundtrack to a movie it was on, and buy the CD just for that one song. Things were different back then. Now I just do a super simple Youtube search.

  • Billy's dress looks better on him than D'arcy's entire outfit looks on her.

  • They filmed this the exact day I was born! I sure as hell wish I was at that show to see this instead of being stuck in an underemployed Californian hospital haha

  • @araanes Grandioso!!!! jajajajajajaja

  • why on earth did he cutt his hair

  • @evanhippieman - Did you ever notice how thin his hair was getting? He was balding. He didn't really have a choice. That would be kind of disgusting having him look like an 80's Kim Mitchell.

  • Yea, what Avedic said...Smashing Pumpkins binge.......

  • I didn't know this song went back to 1992, I thought it was from 93 or 94. Interesting. I graduated high school in 92 & unfortunately that sound wasn't getting to the east coast yet, we still h ad hair bands & MC Hammer at that time. It creeped in slowly in late 91 after Nirvana broke. I brought a casette tape of Nirvana to school in my art class will never forget everyone wanted to see the naked baby on the cover lol

  • this song is Awsome i luv The Smashing Pumpkins they r ace 1979, Drown r 2 ace songs :)

  • let this moment live, you will never ever ever ever see a hungry band like this again. it doesnt happen anymore.

    point said

  • IM CRYING....I WANT THE 90s.

THIS SONG IS FUCKING AMAZING CHECK OUT THE RIFF

  • "I wish I wish I could lie" = epic moment of a whole decade

  • i almost cry when i hear this for some reason.

  • My FAVORITE song by them!

  • oh man...i can feel another smashing pumpkins binge coming on. every year or so i go a couple months listening to nothing but this band and delving into any and every aspect of their sound. here it goes.... :)

  • @avedic LOL, that's exactly what I'm going through. I started listening to them non-stop all over again. This usually happens to me when I have so much crap around me. I flash back to when I was a kid and everything just felt better.

  • @Kingnothing8585 ha...same here. my SP binge only lasted a month...now I'm on to an equally good, but contemporary, band...The Kills. excellent band in their own right.

But yeah, I distinctly remember the first time I heard SP. I was 12 and it was 1995 and I was on a class field trip to washington DC. we were on a greyhound bus, a bunch of 12 year olds lol. I loved that trip. it was my first look at life "outside home" and my first exposure to music that wasn't my parent's. such good memories...

  • @avedic I'm the same way, been doin' it for for 15 years now and im only 21

  • @EbluestarE :) I already ran out that last SP binge. Now I'm completely obsessed with the band The Kills. Amazing current band.

  • @avedic word ill chekk it now.

  • @EbluestarE look up their live versions of Kissy Kissy. awesome song :)

  • @avedic The Kills? Do you like the white stripes? Jack White and the girl from the kills made a band called the dead weather. They are bloody amazing

  • @AceOfShadesOffical oh certainly. :) all great bands :)

  • Comment removed

  • You too? Seriously this is exactly what happens to me, too. My binges occur less frequently than they did a decade ago, but there are oceans of SP music to swim through...especially the b-sides. The more obscure the song (in many cases), the better.

  • @avedic You are not alone! :)

  • @avedic lol, same here, saw them last nite, over half the show was 95 and prior, was incredibly shocked, and damn it was worth it.

i go through the same thing though...months nothing, and then midnite listening to performances from the 90s...

  • who the "f" could dislike this song... .come on now... maybe its billy and the new crew, and realizing that this material could never be topped. w/o getting into the politics of music, it must chaos as a performer hitting your peak at like 26, and then never being able to capture that "it", that made you what you were.... I know Billy has moved on etc, but to this day, he knows that this was an amazing period in his and the band's time, its a shame they couldnt keep it together...

  • love you guys

  • how does he get all tht feedback during the solo. just next to is amp?

  • Does anyone know why Corgan balded so quickly? He had a full head of hair in '92, and looked like he never had hair by '95. Did he just shave it off or was it like how Michael Stipe quickly balded?

  • @GAdawgsfan93 nope, he shaved it off

his mother died, it's actually a hindu tradition to shave off your head when a parent dies

    but obviously corgan isn't hindu

    still....

  • @theindianguy94 he shaved it off because he started having male pattern baldness very early although I'm sure that's something that helped him make the final decision.

  • @groovey65 ohhhhhhhhhhhhh

    i feel rather stupid now

    wateva...

  • you can't top the grunge era... you just can't. it was an incredible time in music history and will always be......

  • i was 6 months and 14 days old... fuck why did i jus had to be born then and miss this

  • amazing ...

  • In the 90's baby boomers complained how music from the 60's/70's/80's was so much better than "today's shit"

Now the post bb's are saying it ; P

  • @infradig8 I'm only 17 and I already think that most of the music today is terrible. Most of the early 90s alternative was just amazing. The music ranged from heavy, dark rock bands like Alice In Chains to softer groups like R.E.M. But, those bands were true to themselves and didn't submit to what their commercial labels wanted, and that's what made them great. Now, I'm stuck w/ BS like Drake or Vampire Weekend.

  • @GAdawgsfan93 I'm sure not all is lost! What do you think of bands like Drive-By Truckers, The Hold Steady & The National? Retro sounding but still very much here and now.

  • I have the choice of one Smashing Pumpkins album (not Mellon Collie, I have that already), what do I buy?

  • @jfowler88 buy any of the 1st 3 - all incredible > Gish, Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscariot

if you've never heard any of em then I'd start with Gish

  • @jfowler88 Buy Siamese Dream. That album is an absolute classic. Gish is pretty good too, but it's lacking something that Siamese dream has. For the song Soma alone buy Siamese Dream.

  • Thanks probalmend!

It's nice to see vintage Pumpkins. This is an island of relief in an ocean of diarrhea.

    ie. Today's music sucks marbles.

  • @highlander80876 Absolutely correct sir/ma'am. Hence why my user name is 90smusicfanatic!! Keep rocking!!

  • Saw the Pumpkins last night, they played this song. It's so awesome that this song still gets played!

  • ....It Billy in his underwear?

  • @highlander80876

    You can't! It's the greatest!

  • hahahaha heroin shambolica from the 90's.........miss it man

  • its not fair that my dad was there but not me

  • I remember this tour

  • 2:22

    Fucking EPIC!

  • i'd rather listen to Tom Tom than this, dunno why you guys don't think the new stuff is any good :D

  • This song is so beautiful...i want those yesterdays back

  • @highlander80876 totally

  • lmao wtf is he wearing.

  • For the love of God, can we please stop talking about Hum?

  • Hum was playing in small bars at U of I, unknown and shitty when Pumpkins was selling out the Metro in Chicago.

  • back in the day they were awesome, but man now he's just destroying his legacy with new trash slapped on the "smashing pumpkins" name

  • Fuck these guys rocked.

  • @jdh2526 Still do man,still do.

  • @placeboloverrrrz not too much, but sorta

  • @persish1 Yeah I know..

Not as much as before anyway..I wish they'd still write songs like this or the everlasting gaze..

  • I feel like i am there.... if only i was :(

  • my song

  • @icu469

right, then click the fucking X which closes this window, you dumb fucking nimwit.

  • @rakuencallisto

everyone is entitled to their own opinion. no need to be an ahole about it.

The sound quality sticks. the song is repetitive and the lead is just noise and feedback. I see no talent here. By the way I dont do drugs but I think u would have too 2 like this crap

  • @icu469

lol no shit everyone is entitled to their opinion, but YOU were being the dickwad to begin with!

What kinda person who dislikes a song, let alone a band, to keep coming back over and over just to say "This is crap, this is crap, I have to be on drugs to like this."

    An asshole is what.

  • @rakuencallisto why are you posting spam if you dont like just say why dont start being an asshole

  • @icu469 wow shut your god dam mouth do'nt fucking watch the vid if you don't like kepp your opion to yourself no one besides you values it so go suck a donkey you ass and keep your mouth shut cause you aren't getting anywhere

  • boring ughh noise. these guys must be on drugs

  • @icu469

you must be on drugs if you don't like this.

  • @icu469 I agree with everybody that has proverbially assfucked you about your comment - I wish, that in relation to the the 'vote up', 'vote down' and 'flag for spam' icons we could have one that is a balled fist that's called 'Punch That Fuck In the Head'. that would be top fucking notch.......and you would be getting a fucking beating.....

  • @icu469 so many people dont understand the meaning of drugs

    which is sad

  • favorite song ever :)

  • damn, i wasnt even born

  • @nomukodonosor

    ur fuckin young.

  • I live here in a little town called Seattle Washington i"m 34 and I watched these guys for the first time and it was absolute magic and I saw Nirvana high as hell on stage Sound garden playing down town Pearl jam playing at Magnuson park in 92...but the pumpkins were amazing!

  • @npopchock pretty jelous dude! liek all my favourite bands ha.

  • HA CLASSIC!!!!!!!!

  • petition to make billy grow his hair back? lol

  • I am all right

  • he shaved it off because he started going bald. it was the right thing to do.

  • if he did, he'd have a skullet.

he'd have to change the bands name to smashing young lads.

  • I thought I was the only one who listens to HUM back then.

  • I miss Darcy :(

  • It takes an extraordinary amount of talent to jam at the guitar and sing. Billy Corgan is the man!!!

  • Comment removed

  • funny he could sing pretty well live in the early days

  • ahh the glory years.

  • reminds me of my bi-polar days.lol I am ok

  • damn way too good this song is so chill........oh yea smashing pumpkins are the greatest

  • So many wonderful memories with this song. I used to sing this with my old band in 92-93 and was always a favorite of mine to sing. I have a video of us playing it at some little bar and the audio sounds the same as this clip.

  • Sounds like the band called HUM...

  • Ya I was thinking that too. HUM were definitly heavily influenced by the pumpkins

  • HUM is the greatest fucking band that never got any props! Fuck im going to listen to HUM now :) thanks!

  • @Caligamecock Hey i love HUM! You have some great taste.

  • i went and bought 2 of their albums from Itunes after that comment :D

  • You mean Hum sounds like THIS. This is pure pumpkinness. This is 92 man. Hum's shit was 94 and later.

  • Nope, Hum's first record came out in 1991.

  • yeah hum is sweet. if i'm not mistake, hum and the pumpkins (and maybe also poster children too?) all came out of the same illinois music scene, so yeah ...

  • Hum came out with these two singles "Hello Kitty" / "Roar, I'm a Tiger" in 1992... the name of the first song and the sound of the second are very very similar to Hello kitty kat (originally released as a b-side of Today, 1993).... is hard to determine which group influenced the other, anyway... two great bands

  • @probalmend I once met a guy when I was working at GC who claimed Billy Corgan stole "Zero" from his band. They quote "used to share a practice space."

I was laughing pretty hard until he left... then I was laughing really hard.

  • @probalmend its interesting but sad how when you prove people wrong, they never seem to comment back. i say kudos to you

  • @fullonnight omg hum, that takes me back

  • oml gorgeous :D

but billy had never had the best taste in fashion :P

  • at the height of their powers. Awe inspiring.

  • billy looks a bit stoned

  • If there was another band who stands up to the Pumkins so bring it on lol, just kidding ,been a long time fan of them

  • one of my favorite songs of all time

  • I have watched the Pumpkins in jacksonville florida and chiciago sorry about the spelling

  • anyone who has a myspace music account, please put this song on your profile because its not on it now

  • Together they are all gods in my book,i want drum lessons........

  • they played this when i got to see em' in 96 in oklahoma city. my first concert ever. garbage opened up for them too.

  • When I saw them back in 96 they were the best. Also, they put on a free show in Minneapolis in 98. I just saw them at the Palms last year in Vegas and it was still worth going.

  • hahh...the crowd is insane! :P

    i wish i was there :(

  • The Smashing Pumpkins lo maximo!!

  • There was alot of good stuff at that time for sure. Not just in the US, but in the UK. That shoegaze and Britpop stuff was cool and some of my favs. In fact, Billy Corgan was into that stuff like My Bloody Valentine. I think music went downhill for a while when those boy bands and fake divas came out. It took awhile, but there has been some good stuff coming out in the last couple of years. Check out Blonde Redhead, Asobi Seksu and School of Seven Bells. Great music that is new and original.

  • right on the money here.

you should also listen to a place to bury strangers and the pains of being pure at heart.

  • You're Native. Me too! I'm Oglalla Sioux and Cherokee with some Irish and Spanish. I checked out those bands and they were old school which was nice. I'm glad there is some good music coming out finally and I think I have some new bands to check out. Thanks.

  • There is some good music today. You just have to look harder and not in the mainstream. Check out The Current. It's a radio station here in St. Paul. They play alot of good new music like music like this. But, I know what you mean.

  • I will too,..

  • Unreal!

    My all time favorite song.

    This version is amazing!

Saw this tour with Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam in Omaha, NE. The Pumkins stole the show IMHO.

  • it's cool seeing this is what they were doing when i was 2 months and 2 days old, well that sounded lame haha :)

  • I was only a week old at the time :o

  • I still have the Singles soundtrack... on cassette!! Bought it from one of those Columbia House mail order catalogs... I miss the early '90s...

  • i was at this concert! how awesome is youtube that you can find footage from old shows you went to so many years ago. i was way at the front so i didn't even know this was being filmed.

i remember this show blew me away. it was shortly before siamese dream came out and it was a bit of a 'secret' gig in that it was only announced a few days before the show. i have vivid memories of that dress & james iha riding out on a little tricycle at the beginning of the show. good times!

  • thats awesome man, thanks for sharing.

  • have to agree with crush and mayonnaise

  • long live luscious locks Corgan

  • yeah...but even without drown, siamese is the best record in the 90s.....I don't like the outro guitar of this version, tough....

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • Needs more feedback at the end!

I say this having purchased the Singles Soundtrack back in '92

    Awesome vid, btw

  • los amoooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Boy, Billy looks high like a kite.

  • amazing feedback solo!

  • this is probably the best of corgan and chamberlins well known masterpieces. . .

90's revolutionized music in a huge alternative and creative way

and this is just proof of it

  • firm believer in that too! i don't see people lookin at the 00's music as they do the 90's

  • Greatest Band EVER

  • @KennaOkoye I wouldn't go so far...best band of the 90s, probably yes

  • Just Great!

    The 90's were too good!

  • yes...

  • the 70's and 60's were the best for rock and roll

  • I'd agree, but the 90s pushed rock up another notch. Before the 2000s trashed it. Much like the 80s trashed the 70s. Hopefully there's another rock "renaissance" out there.

  • ...or maybe just call you an idiot.

  • You all will die when I tell you what show I passed up in the early 90's. Red Hot Chili Peppers was the main act. The opening acts....Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam used the show to make thier video alive where Eddie jumps up to the balcony and hangs. That was in St. Louis, Mo at the American (Orphium) theater. They did two shows because the first show sold out so fast..small venue. I kick myself everytime I think about it.

  • I saw the tour in New Orleans in a shitty lil bar. Freakin amazing. Gish/10/blood sugar sex magic tour. one for the ages

  • the balcony video you are talking is Evenflow. But a cool story non the less!

  • i miss the early 90's. this song makes me think of freshman year of high school.

  • -sigh- I was born a year after this. Atleast you got to experience it.

  • I know how you feel. If only I was born 10 years earlier

  • huh

the smashing pumpkins made a song called drown too

  • I wish I was a pumpkin

  • I got a fever. And the only cure is more Iha.

  • I miss billy with hair

  • billy has long hair !!! :d

  • It's so great to see all of the younger people here wishing they were alive when this was all going on...it's you all who keep great bands like this going...I was 6 when this show was going on...I feel each and every one of you. Keep rockin' everyone!

  • The best song off the greatest soundtrack of ALL TIME!

Whoda thunk a nerd from chitown would have the best track on Seatle's coming out record.

    Single's

  • What a great soundtrack.

    Would?

    State of Love and Trust

    Breath

    Drown

    Birth Ritual

    Seasons

    All top notch songs.

  • wow! this is great

  • Billy always sounds awesome live. I mean, this is perfect. His voice sounds the same as his studio recordings. The Pumpkins have been my favourite band of all time since I was 13. I have reason to believe that my teen years were all the more memorable because of this band, and because of how strongly they were a part of my life for all that time. Not a lot of bands have what it takes to be that significant to someone. The Pumpkins rule.

  • jesus turns the lights off at night and chills to the smashing pumpkins

  • i love the ending of this song

  • this song changed my view on music thanxs sp u guys are awesome and hav gods gift of music

  • o m f g !! this goes deep inside of that crazy thing called hearth...
