Bush calling himself "The Education President" was one of the biggest jokes of his presidency -- and he had many sad jokes. Has he done ANYTHING to promote education since? On the other hand, here's Colin Powell actually trying to improve the situation.
General Powell was screwed by the Bush Administration, and made the fall guy in that embarrassing UN presentation about Iraq. Of Bush's entire cabinet, Powell was the most balanced, thoughtful and non-partisan.
Unlike other members, he was not driven by ideology but rather by pragmatism and evidence. An example of this is Powell's present support for allowing gays in the military. Always the gentleman, he has refused to criticized Bush. Close aides, however, have said that he is bitter.
Unlike other members of Bush's cabinet, the Powells are actively trying to better the world. Do we see Rice, Cheney, etc doing the same? Cheney is out to promote himself, and the Bushs are nowhere to be found. George W did a bit of funfraising with Clinton at Obama's request but what else have the Bushs done? Zilch.
. Compare that with ex-Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and their wonderful wives. All active in making our nation and world a better place. Heck, let's compare the ex-GOP and Democratic Presidents since the 70's, and see which have been more productive post-presidecy.
Ford - often seen at golf tournaments; wife spoke about cancer and addiction
Reagan - the guy had Alzheimer's so he can be forgiven; wife has done nothing significant; a few comments about stem cells; "Just Say No" was a failure
Daddy Bush - nothing significant; very little fundraising at Clinton and Obama's request
Jr Bush - nothing; one time fundraising at Obama's request; disliked in most parts of the world. Wife's public appearances are pointless.
Carter - very active in Habitat for Humanity with wife; and in global diplomacy; won Nobel Peace Prize; written many books; respected worldwide
Clinton - very active in international diplomacy and aid to underdeveloped countries. Respected and well-liked worldwide. Wife is Secretary of State and powerhouse.
Even Vice-Prez Al Gore is active and respected internationally. Where are the GOP Vice-Prez? Cheney has done nothing for non-profits or international aid, and is disliked globally.
Democrats and Republicans like to keep politicians in nice, neat little boxes, so they can take turns operating the military/war/banking machine. Ron Paul is a financial conservative and social liberal who doesn't fit the box--so they demean him, ignore him. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! THE LIVE AND LET LIVE PRESIDENT who can STOP THE WARS and use that money to support the needy! Ron Paul 2012 can win! For LESS government, not MORE! /watch?v=wM-QpVSjsLY
