In 1989, the producers of "Batman" wanted to do the movie right. Well The Markettes should have known that someone would come along and do "The Batman Theme Song" right. That man was Prince. Nice Job!
This song grew on you like a fungus. When you first hear it, it sounds like experimental cacophony, but the more you listen to it, the better it gets.
That was amazing!!! I went to seethe movie when it came out in theaters about 4 times! I think I was13 or so! Ahh that brought back memories. Good job, it was the absolute original song! Thank you!
If you think about it, this is actually a damn unusual song considering it reached #1 in the US and #2 in the UK (at least by the standards of the late 1980s).
I know hip hop and rap were getting more popular then, but this isn't MC Hammer. The tempo and style chop and change and don't settle down for almost two minutes. There isn't a really catchy melody. It's neither an instrumental nor a full-fledged vocal track.
Good or bad, this track certainly is *not* Debbie Gibson.
I think the reason why this song was so hot back in the day, was because of the funky breakdown @2:26, which Prince is a genius in doing in his music. Plus the hype, heavy marketing of the movie Batman played a big part into this single (& the soundtrack) reaching the top of the charts back in 1989. Also the remix of Batdance (which I think was a little better IMO), got a lot of play in the clubs as well.
Awesome. I remember having this same shorter cut on a cassette tape with 200 Balloons as the B-Side. I've always thought the shorter version was better. The parts from the album that were cut out tend to slow the song down a bit. But, a classic either way.
Hey I'm 52 and still love this song, Prince, ya he is a bit quirky but damn talented.

I can't believe Prince, he won't let YouTube show the Original Batdance! =(

I didn't even know vinyl could sound so good. Where's the guitar solo, though? Must be in an extended version.
