@mindstormsabrewin You are correct. I grew up in Brooklyn, in the 1970s and I recall watching an Abbott and costello movie every sunday morning on channel 11
Ahh the memories. Coming home from Sunday school and watching Abbott & Costello movies, my mom cooking a big meal for lunch and my dad watching the Sunday afternoon movie after lunch. The good, simple life of being a kid in the 70's
Brings back memories for me too. Born in 65 and grew up in northern NJ. Amazing the things that stick in the back of the brain. Find myself whistling these old intros every now and then.
I can't believe how many memories I have of these and other movie openings on WPIX. I guess I didn't realize just how much I watched that channel. We got WPIX on cable. God, these bring me back to my childhood.
@fluffysue I am guessing either Planet of The Apes, or else a Bruce Lee movie. Although it was usually Channel 9 that had the Bruce Lee movies. Where the speech would never match the lip motion of the actors.... LOL!
Thanks for posting this. If I am remembering it correctly, this was when/where they showed a lot of Abbott and Costello and Bowery Boy movies... right or wrong?
@kenitobaby75 sadly, those days are LONG LONG LONG gone. :( Not a perfect but certainly a more innocent time. I also wax sentimental whenever I see that Christmas message by the WPIX manager- very poignant message.
@Tenor5274 I remember the pink screen with the little curls making a circle with that great theme song. I was around 5 years old when I first saw it. I was in awe of the orchestrations! Excellent song!
@Tenor5274 yeah...I guess judging from your screen name you're a 70's baby like me. I can remember the WOR TV movie bumper with all the old movie actors one scene dissolving into another...not sure if you know the one I'm talking about...one with John Wayne, Spencer Tracey...etc....
Makes me sad....I remember it too well.It was just a better time.Stores were closed and my parents were home.No one worked on Sundays...Today sucks.

If I remember right, most of the sunday morning movies on channel 11 were Abbott and Costello films.

I wonder what the movie was. I'm betting if I guess it was a "Planet of the Apes" movie, I'd have a good shot at being right.

"Jim Rockford, Private Investigator." At this time, I lived in New Orleans; WWL-TV, Channel 4, aired it weekdays at 4, before "Eyewitness News."
