I love the whole accepting what is, being, and living authentically - But there is something I am confused about...
When I have those negative feeling, I love to get rid of them to relax, but at the same time that makes me feel very unstable because I know that I'm not gonna feel "ok" and content unless I let go of the external factors causing it, or those feelings...Should we get rid of them, or practice accepting them and living with them?
@JustaValidUsername Resisting what we feel/think creates tension. Try not to think of a pink elephant. Don't picture a pink elephant in your mind's eye. It's hard to do. We energize what we resist. It's much more freeing to simply observe your emotions & thoughts. Let them pass like clouds in the sky.
@vagabondsteve I always use the pink elephant example - I've heard it in one of your videos and I loved it a lot - But for example if you were in a career you didn't like, would you rather say let go, allow it, and be content with everything as is, or would you say change it to a career you would enjoy - if you can...? So basically do you think its more about adapting to what you have and living with it, or getting to what you want (<-- if you can get what you want)?
@JustaValidUsername We're talking about two different things. I'm speaking of not resisting our internal world like thoughts & feelings. We simply observe them instead. For the external world just follow the serenity prayer: Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. -Reinhold Niebuhr
I can't stress it enough, we're all only forever in conflict with ourselves. People need to take responsibility for THEIR own shit... "Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time. For y'all have knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe. I was not offended, for I knew I had to rise above it all -- or drown in my own shit." (AMAZING guitar solo, Maggot Brain by Funkadelic)
@ISAXX74 It all starts with observing yourself in the 3rd person. Meditation is a great way to begin observing our monkey mind. Observe your conditioned responses. Observe other people. Start with small things and practice non-reaction. Be patient because you're rewiring your brain.
P.S. Ad 4:50 - also we have false expectations for priests and ministers in Christian churches, so why some people overcriticize them. The same wuth bosses at work. The same with our polititians and ruud customers in restaurants..
I never gotten involved w/ politics, until 1 day the N. A. Union has been secretly introduced amongst other things...S.O.P.A. & P.I.P.A. & there's allot more than what meets our conditioned mind's eye. Sorry I don't want to sound pessimistic but, I want 2 b optimistic. ... How are we a master of our domain, when the constitution is on it's head? I only want peace, people helping 1another., using things instead loving them. Love people, I might have Avoidant personality disorder but, I still try.
Yeah I have been there before and self-pity is SOOO addictive. The thing we all must realize is that responsibility means LETTING go of bad people and things that also hold us back. ( Even if that pain is caused by parents ) If you don't let things go - you will end up depressed because this feeds your negative mood even more. Take care of yourself first.
Great vid Steve! Happy New Year! Yes, you're so right... our reality is subject to our personal interpretation. E.g., some people see a problem; others see opportunity.
@chessdude67 Emotions are temporal and quickly fade. Emotions can be a great spark to trigger deeper understanding but generally shouldn't be relied upon. Silence, stillness, and awareness are roots which provide a much stronger foundation.
I love to bitch and moan about people. Then I have a cup of coffee, listen to some rock music and I feel great again. I also like to think about the people who were mean to me in the past. I feel justified in my appraisal of them. But then I realize they're all dead now and I'm still me and all is well. Life goes on..... lol. There have been many who were good and I love 'em. I like to help people if I can and always be respectful of servitor people.
At 6:18, you said: "Embrace all the colors of the rainbow." I totally agree. I like to embrace the light and the dark. I think problems arise when you are too much in one or the other. For example, I think New Agers tend to be too much in the light, and they ignore the Shadow emotions. On the flip side, I think conspiracy theorists tend to be too much in the dark, and they don't know how to lighten up and see that there IS beauty and joy in life. BALANCE, BABY! Yin and yang. ROCK ON, STEVE!
@BillyOhRayBob90210 I absolutely agree with you. The more we focus on one side or thing, the more the opposite gets empowered by that simultaneously, often benath the surface, which makes the recognition of this process even harder. Being aware of it helps balancing it. And since we (probably) can't run away from polarity, balance is THE thing.
We choice our own reality in each moment. We choice to complain, we choice to feel us miserable and unhappy. Radical and true. Have you seen the last clip by Paul Lowe on Never Not Here? A masterpiece about this topic. Ciao Steve, Giorgio, Italy.
You wake up.. You know nothing about what is really going down.. I will clue you in.. Picture this. You stand infront of a stone that weighs 200 tons And you have to put it ontop of a pyramid.. do you have any idea of how much pain and suffering has gone on to make the world what it is today? How do you think that soo few could control soo many for soo long? They have been using mathmatics to control the humans for the last 36,000 years.
Thanks Steve,sometimes I need a reminder,love to you!!!
