AR-15 is not an assault rifle. I know it will sound like semantics but even though it looks like the M-16 Assault Rifle it is the civilian version which is a semi-automatic rifle, no different than a hunting rifle unless you hunt with a bolt-action or muzzleloader.

AR-15 is not an assault rifle. I know it will sound like semantics but even though it looks like the M-16 Assault Rifle it is the civilian version which is a semi-automatic rifle, no different than a hunting rifle unless you hunt with a bolt-action or muzzleloader.

An AR-15 is not an assault rifle. For a rifle to be classified as an assault rifle, it has to meet three characteristics. It must be selective fire, it must be chambered for an intermediate cartridge and it must have a detachable magazine. An AR-15 is not select fire. It is semi-automatic only.

The whole gun debate is circular reasoning and is fine as it stands. These systems only work if EVERYONE has a gun, or NO-ONE has a gun. No exceptions except for children, seniors, etc. If a criminal has a gun and no-one else does, he might shoot someone. If he knows he has to face 20 people with weapons to get to his target, then he'll be alittle apprehensive. If no-one has a gun, we don't worry either but we still have the chance of someone illegaly obtaining one, then we're all fucked.
