  • A really good tune and cheggars all in one video.... this is too much!

  • Every vocalist should hold their microphone like that. It's dead cool.

  • @podfunk Alvin Stardust did it first

  • I don't know what it is about this song but it sounds like captain sensible. i think the lead singer is him.

  • @pushy4005 Alternatively you could purchase the album 'Sub-stance' from Amazon or other good retailers. :)

  • Remember This One Well - Cracking Track With A Tasty Guitar Intro!

  • ongelooflijk wie wat je allemaal op het net niet vinden kan :)

  • OMG!!! Ha ha ha How good was this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they were good when they backed the jam in 1981 in london also like left right left right

  • Did they bunk off school to record this?class tune never the less.

  • Alvin Stardust---only upside down. Neat!!

  • Graet single, and a very cool singer. Whatever happened to Department S ?

  • the band were all killed in a smerf cooking disaster

  • Excellent tune.

  • The drummer served me at McDonald's in 1991.

  • Vic your pants are washed and ironed,

    mom

  • Cheers Mater X

  • Has there been any messages while l've been out

    Vic

  • Fantastic!

  • When was this? 1982?

  • possible...most of their releases were out in 1981...by the time the meaintream medio realised the potential of this band, Vaughn was luncheoning with Wella at the copacubuna club and 126 men were needed to carry Talbot's big organ. That's roughly round the time Chris Dean barbecued all his JAM singles and got a decent haircut.

  • it's called recycling...a common recipe since 1958. The Cult were too damn ugly to make the english charts...sorry hairy...hairy...I meant hairy. You need to wax yr legs to make the UK charts.

  • The Cult 'too ugly'? wtf? Ian Astbury not only had the greatest hair in music; he was hot!

  • You meant The Cult's She Sells Sanctuary, these kind of riffs were used from Siouxsie & the Bansees to Billy Idol....nothing wrong HERE. ♫

ByTheWay...BÖC were great too ,till '76.

after that they became MOR "rock".•

  • completely agree on BOC! And this song rules

  • i always knew Sam Endicott reminded me of someone - now I realise who.

A seminal and hugely influential song...

  • I love this song. Good stuff :-)

  • This is still the only song I'll play my air guitar too. Bliss.

  • one of those wonderfull one hit wonders

  • Vic Marks ....one of the greatest English cricketers of all time!!!

  • Who is this Vic character anyway? thats what I'd like to know

  • i came across this song on the pub jukebox by accident, couldnt imagine life if vick wasnt there!

  • Killer song!

  • This is such a great song I thought someone would have made an extended version of it !

  • I think this sounds like Calvert era Hawkwind (76-78)

    Great stuff!!

  • This rocks!!

    Takes me back

  • Wow...now I'm looking for a video of the B-side of that single..."Put All the Crosses in the Right Boxes"...

  • Classic! Just off to find Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins now

  • I like Echo beach and Is vic there as well-must be on the same wavelength....

  • Shame you didn't keep The Beat too. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-cheggers plays pop-pop-pop.

  • So was Vic there or not? F**kin' hell, talk about labouring the point.

  • The wig that the lead guitarist is wearing in this video wrote most of the tunes.

  • Git! :0)

  • Definite Joy Division influence- and that's no bad thing.

  • i recorded the jam live off BBC FM in the early 80s. Department S supported. The Beeb have released the jam part on CD. Anyone know if i can get Department S set?

  • It's included on the re-issue of 'Sub-stance', their first album. New album out in 2008.

  • @dukkhagogogo yup, you can download it off of itunes.

  • @dukkhagogogo yup, you can download all their stuff from itunes.

  • How many people recognise the Monty Python connection? The album Matching Tie and Handkerchief featured a sketch called "The Phone In", supposedly about farming. The first caller's question was "Is Vic There?" The second caller's question was "Has he been round again?"

  • Yes the humour of the sketch was in the way the Anchor man (Eric Idle ?) tries to keep bringing the conversation back 'on topic' ("We only want questions on FARMING") despite the intervention and threatening nature of the caller on the crossed line.

  • Actually, part of the joke is that Eric Idle says that when someone calls in with a question about farming!!!!

  • They don't make tunes like this anymore, sadly. Many thanks.

  • Than God for youtube, what a treat for the ears.

  • Ring..ring..Is Vic there?

    Classic.

  • prefer the mainline verion

  • UNBE FUCKIN LIEVEABLE !!!

  • Loved it... Who was Vic anyway?

  • 2 classics. is vic there? and cheggers plays pop. BOSS MIKE TECHNIQUE. IS VAUGHN DEAD NOW?

  • Thats for this, great memories, my ftiend Stuart was the drummer :)

  • I absolutley love this song, it's a pity they really did only enjoy 15 minutes of fame. Thanks for posting this.

  • delighted to see a rare glimpse of this one hit wonder cult classic, a youtube triumph
