No matter what Hank's done, you can be kind to him and forgive him without condoning what he does or has done. And most of them are almost as bad as he is. I can kind of understand Horace's reluctance: the man who used and pimped her out since she was a teen tries to storm in destroy her wedding, any husband would be uneasy.
Hank made Myra a whore, but she hadn't any better options, if she didn't come with him, she would probably just die from starvation. What kind of job would 13 years old girl do? Work as a miner? She would die after couple of months. Working in saloon gave her at least food, home and some kind of protection.

Hank took a nieve, innocent, starry eyed little girl with big dreams of a different lifestyle, turned her into the town whore and she still stands by him...go figure. If Michaela hadn't come along at the right time, Hank would have gotten his paws on Coleen too.
I cant help but feel bad for Hank that no one cares that he might die. He may be a jerk but Im sure there are deeper reasons for it. He probably doesnt know how to be any other way.
Also, Horace (of all people) turns out to be kind of a jerk to Myra here, and after they're married, so I guess I cant blame her for leaving him.
I think both Horace and myra got it a bit wrong. Myra should respect the fact that Horace had already overcome a lot for her. After all it was a small town a lot of the men would have had relations with her without her then staying by their side. But giving her an ultimatum was one step away from changing both their personalities...
she is not great, she is stupid, she choses a pimp who is not worthy of anybody's care over her husband who helped free her of his grip. She is a terrible wife.
horace is being a hypocrite....he fell in love with myra partly for that big heart of hers and now just because it includes everybody even hank he doesn't accept her....i think she's showing greatness by being able to find it in her heart to care for somebody who wishes her to have such a life....it's the only way that would keep her by his side...and i think the reason why a lot of people like hank stay who they r is because others give up on them too soon and always act like they're saints
Its true he should appreciate the fact that she has a big heart, but you have to understand that there is a limit to what a husband can tolerate. If my wife used to work with a pimp I wouldnt want her anywhere near him, even if it was out of pity.
It's simple, she loved him. maybe not as a lover but at least as a friend, even if he did horrible things to her at the time she thought it was love. It's a hard thing to understand
actually, survivors of sexual/physical abuse often have misplaced feelings of compassion and a sense of responsibility for the abuser. It's a brokenness that's hard to overcome.
