Are there any companies that will actually design and build such a home? We are looking forward to build a home in Washington State. We hope to build in an energy efficient way.

@n7app I think the question to ask contractors in your area is do you have the expertise to build around the principles of passive solar design and a tight building envelope?

5 months of research tells me:

1) SIPS for walls and roof provide highest R value and high cost efficiency.

2) Solar gain windows on the south side will heat your home for free.

3) Thermal mass inside your home store that heat. Ex: concrete, stone, water.

4) Use small heat recovery ventilation.

5) A small woodstove.
