Hi Have you ever heard of a Boito 410 shotgun made in Mexico it`s a very short gun it has a sight bead on the end but you could`nt hit the floor if ya through it I tried a bore sight one time but found the sight was off then got a good one tried it it would shoot 6 oclock if point center @ 20 ft if shoot 12: o clock hit center so I sent it back and they gave me one with higher bead but still has issues could you see if you can find anything on them please .
You shouldn't be taking much metal off, but be carefull if your rifle barrel is really close the legal minimum. Otherwise cutting too far could leave you with a big legal problem...
@dpmsdealer He showed how to do a flat crown with a file and sandpaper in another video. I've used that method on a gouged rifle that wouldn't shoot, myself, and it certainly helped!
@dpmsdealer I know this is an old comment and hopefully they replied, but you can use that bit he showed on the left (next to the brass hand tool) that you stick in a drill. It self-centers and allows you to take a very small amount of material off. Check this video by iraqveteran8888, they shortened and re-crowned an M91/30 'by hand'. watch?NR=1&feature=fvwp&v=Z-y8lNlnLMM
@stainless1911 recessed target is the most accurate.

Was that a Stevens model 67f .22lr barrel?

What is the most accurate crown?

If you are going to the trouble of using a lathe, why not have the barrel runout at zero?
Looks to me like the barrel is running out of round in the chuck.

@astrowanabe No kidding. I shortened my 91/30 to 17" at first because of that.
