I have to agree with comeonnow68 this song always makes me feel better when I am down. I never get tired of Mellencamp but this is definitely his feel good song.
John's songs are little slices of Americana...good times now lost -only to become much cherished memories. How I wish I go back to those wonderful days!! Great song!
We NEED more songs like this and Pink Houses played these days to help US feel still American. TOO many minorities in US; doesn't feel like America with so many minorities. Just my opinion.
fuck cancer its a killer. my grand mom died ,,,,,,and evin my mom has had it it may be back lets kill CANCER NOW DAM IT. This is their meusic let it heall them. Mom loves Mellencamp.

I love everything John but Scarecrow is my absolute favorite from him. They were great songs in 1985 but now that I'm 25 years older, these lyrics have taken on a deeper meaning for me as I've weaved my way through 25 years of......stuff. I listen to this album (CD) now and the lyrics from Scarecrow just blow me away all over again---only it's different.
Terrific song. My fav line is.... "I'm always talking to myself, I guess i'm never alone." Being that I live alone, I can definitely relate to that one. LOL
@AnimalFreakization Some of my relatives live in Bloomfield about 35 minutes SW and I've driven through Brown County quite a few times. Recognize the 3 road signs 45 46 and 70. "Small Town" with the All America City sign in front of the bridge is familiar I lived in Bloomfield and worked in Bloomington during the Scarecrow and Lonesome Jubilee days. Ever heard of Bloomington Valley Nursery? They were on SR 46/College Ave and also on the South Side I think near SR 37 but can't remember for sure.
