Anyone know the piano music during the episode called "line up"? That music was so brilliant, but I couldn't find it. Any help will be much appreciated!
@chinesemusicDJ There wasn't any specific name listed in the credits, but I know that Andy Price wrote the opening theme and has also done a lot of the background music in the past.
Yeah he pretty much worked on all the L&O's but I couldn't find a list of his works! So I'm trying to see if anyone else would know or have a list of his works.
This piece would be a great anthem to play before a football match, primarily as the entrance music as the officials and the two teams make their way out the players' tunnel toward and onto the pitch,
Great theme from a great series, we yanks here in the States get it on BBC America
No offence, i live in London, but why does all these have such CHEESY VOICE OVERS LOOOL like you have either a posh accent or a middle-class accent! Not everyone speaks like that :D
lol, no that narrator is not posh at all, just a normal middle-class english accent. Posh is a lot more exaggerated. The theme song is pretty shoddy IMO. I have not seen the actual show yet, but it comes out soon on fox in thailand as I let the UK a few years back.
I'm not British but there is a little thing called tradition and every country has one, living in a certain year be it 2011, 2020 or, 2084 does not guarantee that old ways will disappear.
I am loving this theme song! Sounds like the score to an epic adventure movie. I'm grateful we have BBC America On Demand. Otherwise I'd have missed out on Hustle, Mi5, Torchwood, and Luther of course which was a great miniseries. Does anyone know if there are plans to make another Luther miniseries or is it just a one-and -done?
I'm American, but to be honest, I think that this theme is better than our version. The show isn't half bad either. It's just as good as our version (and some times it can be better).
@shadowclaw46 I'm in the apples and oranges crowd with this theme song. I LOVE this version, and it works for the UK show. I also think the American version rocks, too. It doesn't have to be about which one is "better". They're both excellent theme songs.
And frankly, in this day and age of the disappearing opening credits, I'm thankful some shows still give us theme songs!

There! A fab series that I recomend for anyone above the age of 12 I watch it Although the season has finished and it's coming in the fall u can still watch it later on other channels I LOVE CSI:NY
Ya that nigger sucks. But nbc replaced Law and Order with, guess what, a spin off of Law and Order. Where else? Law and Order: Los Angeles (as if we aren't sick enough of NYC and LA already. Variety and network TV don't mix). The irony is reeking out.
ROTFLMAO!!!! Yes, that too!!!!! And the new Law & Order: "Law & Order: Los Angeles" BLOWS CHUNKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are trying too hard to be more like the CSI franchise. "Law & Order" doesn't work in California. Bring it back to New York with Sam Waterston & Epatha Merkerson or put it out of it's misery. Don't try to give it a make-over. It was fine the way it was before they tried to make it "young and hip". Grrrrrrr!!!!!
@Godzilla1985 Oh he was. NBC wanted to reduce his pay as executive producer to pay off production of future episodes and apparently Dick Wolf couldn't agree to that so NBC had to let go of L&O.
@cayenne212 We have only had our Law and Order for a couple of years. I still prefer the USA version, together with CSI in various places, Miami and New York etc. Absolutely love those programmes. Okay for the benefit of those in the UK, why blame Jay Leno?????
I didn't know there was a "Law and Order" UK version until I saw a copy of the DVD in a Target store recently. Hey, I'm all for it. It's a great show. I love the British intro that refers to "district attorney's office" to the "crown prosecutors". Nice differences.
I was bumming around my neighborhood Target (the only store that carries the DVD, folks) and saw the DVD right away, curiousity and Jamie Bamber and Freema Agyeman (yes, I'm a Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who fan) on the cover led to my decision to purchase it. The series would have a chance if they make original episodes rather than remaking old ones from the original. The theme is okay too. What's okay here in the states doesn't mean its okay there.
law and order: UK: "unloved" made me cry near the end when jono's mum sounded like she hates him. which she does. she called him a monster. it really made me cry :-'(
its funny cause jamie bamber mentioned in a battlestar galactica interview that he felt sorry for those people who were in weekly procedural shows where they catch the bad guys and put them in jail. so I hate seeing him here especially since hes not acting in the US so i don't get to see him on my tv screen anymore :(
For a really long time I was hoping that they will broadcast this show here on television (In The Netherlands).
It's on tv now for 3 weeks i guess. Once a week, on Friday. I really love it. I adored Jamie Bamber much earlier then I knew he was in this show. I knew him from Hornblower. I love him..
Since I'm Australian, I like both themes. But I have to say my favourite song is the Law and Order Trial by Jury theme. To me, even though i like this, it seems to be just another crime show. The show's alright, though.
why shouldn't it has a unique theme? this is set in the UK, it's a whole different city and country, it should be allowed to have its own unique theme, besides, I found this to be much classier than the original themes of the US versions.
What the original theme for the US is so NYC....idk I know why they wouldn't play jazzy music in the UK series b/c it doesn't fit the image of it of for the American version its the perfect fit for a NY crime series.
why does the UK version have to fit some American theme? UK is not NYC nor American, it should by all rights have its own style. A full orchestral music is a perfect fit for Britain. It is grand and regal just like the country itself.
I would think for the same reason that the BBCAmerica won't show more shows from the UK. They show Dr. Who (which is great!), & Graham Norton, but not Eastenders.
@BetaArtemis B/c the British theme sucks. I hate to sound like a yank (can't choose where you're born), but the whole song is soo fucking stuffy and feudal. Why?!?! Wtf purpose does that serve when it's an inferior song, @ least improve on it if you're gonna Anglicize it, don't make it sound like fucking Masterpiece Theater or something. It almost makes think Freema should've gone to Torchwood instead.
@breaks0 Unfortunately, Americans have a hard time understanding other countries' style and history, not everything has to sound like the American version, not everything show from America is god's greatest creation on Earth. And just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not right. It's only your opinion.
As for Freema, she gets to choose what job she wants, clearly she loved it, so I don't think it's any of your business.
@BetaArtemis Oh sod off w/that shit b/c you are wrong, not b/c I say so b/c the stupid theme speaks for itself. The song doesn't work, and you're just being a bloody nationalist now. I never criticized the fucking song b/c I think the song isn't American, it's b/c the SONG doesn't work musically and culturally. It's fucking stuffy and reflects a part of British bourgeois and feudal society that's dated and reflects power structures you're too fucking steeped in to even see. Get over yourself.
@breaks0 I'd feel the same way if it was a bad American song or reflected similar musical or cultural ideals from any other country, but you're too stuck on my passing remark about my own stupid nationality to see that. If you disagree w/my view, just say so, you don't have to be an arrogant twat about. Asshole!
@breaks0 Oh please, don't try to use big words that you probably don't even have the brain capacity to understand. The theme is grand and regal, it reflects through its instrumental tunes the rich history and unique style of Britain. It works perfectly well and just because you don't have the intelligence to truly appreciate the music doesn't mean it isn't well done. And by the way, swearing and using profanity really shows your level of intelligence.
@BetaArtemis I'm clearing more educated than you, I just don't have the overbearing ego of some moron like you. Who are you to tell people how to talk? Get over yourself!
@breaks0 And if you had something substantive to say about my criticism as opposed to personally attacking me when I already made a self deprecating remark that would show some degree of moderation, which you clearly lack. You wanna like the fucking song, go ahead. It doesn't make it any more british or better. As I said, once an ass always an ass. I'll leave you the last word since you're so stuck up you'll insist on it anyway.
@breaks0 Ohhhh you're more educated eh? Is that why you're first instinct is to cuss people out? Only morons do that you know. Poor kid. You must be so confused.
@breaks0 Get over yourself instead, the song works just fine, clearly you have no understand of music. It's grand, majestic, and orchestral, and perfect just the way it is. I could care less what this song is suppose to "reflect", it is musically beautiful and fits well with the style of many British series openings. They like their orchestral music, nothing wrong with that.
@BetaArtemis Actually since you're thick, imperialist and full of yourself, I will add that you're another one of those asses who thinks it's your place to criticize someone who's criticizing a piece of pop culture passing for art. Who are you to pass judgement on the critic? Who are you to invoke my nationality or your own for that matter? And who are you to bash me b/c I swear? If you're much of a prude to be able to deal w/swearing, I don't really care.
@breaks0 At least I'm not acting like a kid who got pushed out of the sandbox, your mother clearly needs to wash your mouth with soap, only unintelligent people swear and insult to cover their own idiocy. I love the music because of its orchestral beauty, this theme is similar to the West Wing theme which I loved very much. So I'm stuck up and full of myself, I like it, grow up, deal with it, it's the real world kid, you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
@breaks0 Oh yeah, you're the only who can see all the truth right? You're the smart one who's more intelligent than everyone else. And you call me arrogant. I never brought my nationality into the conversation. But thank you for calling me an imperialist, I've always wanted to take over the world, so hey, that's all good for me.
Hey! I'm American and I enjoy BBC production FAR MORE than I enjoy the crap we make in this country. This whole season is a total disappointment! Nothing good on the airwaves except: "Castle" and "Two and a Half Men". Thank GOD PBS has fantastic shows like "MI-5" and "EastEnders".
@cayenne212 I'm American too, but I enjoy my fair share of BBC dramas. I have lots of good shows on the airwaves so I'm not worried about American TV either. I enjoy both of my American and British TV. I don't watch Castle or Two and A Half Men, but I'm sure they're good. :)
@BetaArtemis That's exactly how it should be. I believe everyone should have what they want, such as this, without it being JUST a slightly modified version of a totally different show. The music was interesting I must admit but like you said what ever you like over there is your own thing! =]
@DynastyPercussion I like grand orchestral music, it's got a majestic feeling to it and I always thought it fits a country like Britain. And like you said, every series is allowed to have their own style. :)
@BetaArtemis Mike Post's original theme is iconic, one of the best themes of the last twenty years (and of course now themes are becoming obsolete, so it will continue to be one of the classics). This beeb hackery is a mish-mash of third-rate superhero theme and Dynasty spin-off. Not regal. Dreck city.
@BetaArtemis i also dont think the american theme would work for the credit sequence because in all of the american law and orders there are still shots while the theme is going on and the film clips for this one wouldnt fit with the american theme. As long as the doink doink was in it i was happy. All law and orders no matter where they are should have the doink doink
Isnt there a theme song along with the promo for this show. something like "london's burning...." something like that in the lyrics over the promo for LW UK.
I haven't seen the uk version yet as I've been abroad but being a big fan of the US versions I'm glad they've kept some of the features like the 'DUM DUM' and the intro. However the theme music's really dull and while I like some of the graphics in the titles there's not really any big shots of the London skyline like the US version has of New York. I think that's important as it's part of the show as much as the characters(at least it should be).
I just watched a few episodes of "Law And Order UK". I don't get the show on my tv here in the U.S. but I found it on a website. I like it. I also like that it has the CHUNG! CHUNG! sound at scene changes just like the American version. The courtroom attire seemed a bit odd at first but then it made perfect sense. When you step into a courtroom there's no doubt that you are in a court of law and not just a room full of people. It sobers one to the situation at hand and commands respect.
Hey allysm, It's called Project Free TV. It's a pretty good site. I also watched "The Shield" series there too. And btw, the tv shows are listed in alphabetical order but anything that starts with the word "the" will be under the letter " t ". The site also has recently released movies.
Perhaps because it signifies centuries of tradition, respect and honour.
If you live outside of the commonwealth, it may seem odd, however those who grew up in those countries see it as demanding respect and authority, as well as signifying intelligence and dedication towards the legal system.
And then of course some people are just idiots who find things like that amusing.
No, I find the notion of wardrobe bestowing respect and authority idiotic. The only real authority is reason, and its not advanced or sustained by a uniform. It's a prop, it's nonsense, and its not too different from a throne or a crown.
I don't think its funny at all. I think its sad that some people don't recognize authority in the legal system (through either their or the system's shortcomings) w/o a uniform there to announce it.
Unlike police officers, who are hired for their policing skills, a judge's qualification is his/her ability to reason. Officers need a uniform to signify their unique status w/in the law - they can legally restrain/detain people, unlike citizens.
Judges, however, don't need a uniform to identify themselves, esp not to confer air of authority, let alone demand respect(?) Their authority should be evidenced by their exceptionally knowledgeable just, fair and balanced administration of the court.
Countries have traditions, ways passed down through the generations, if anything the wig is more of a ceremonial and traditional purpose than showing the talents or skills of a judge/prosecutor.
And like you said since knowledge and fairness are more important in a judge, then why should it matter that they are wearing wigs at all? Their abilities should determine how people view them, not their attire.
yeah, I don't take that deep of offense to it -- I do think the US robes are a little, questionable though. The upside I think is that a judges attire doesn't distract or influence the proceedings.
It just strikes me as overkill to add the wig, the red sashes, etc. I know its tradition, but from the outside it just looks unnecessary. At worst, its something a judge can hide behind -- they can let the 'costume' rather than their conduct speak to their authority.
As the great Stephen Fry once said, "It's the unnecessary things that make life worth living".
There are many things the British do well: Humour (With a 'U'!!!); complaining; making things seem depressing; making tea; arguing with the Welsh, Scottish & Irish (And for some reason, Liverpudlians).
The British also try to maintain traditions (Not all of them mind you). I suppose it's the same as religions, and thier customs. It's just something that's done. Not everything needs to be questioned.
Not to harp on it, but courts are sort of sacred institutions. Personally, I think as an institution they're best served by representing the same practice they're founded on -- reason. Tradition can color all areas of life, but in some places, its best to let other forces hold sway.
The English pioneered a lot of the firing line-style military warfare, but the traditions that came from and were enshrined in it were replaced.. by a different 'tradition' that has its own iconic/cultural...
i think we have waaay too many law and order series, but i think it'll be cool if bbc america would show the series, but hey they will market it as "doctor who's freema agyeman stars in: Law & Order:UK" it looks like a good show, i've just become addicted to Law and Order, SVU, CI. i know there was a fourth one what was that one called?

Nice differences.
poughkeepsiejohn1 1 year ago 2
I was bumming around my neighborhood Target (the only store that carries the DVD, folks) and saw the DVD right away, curiousity and Jamie Bamber and Freema Agyeman (yes, I'm a Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who fan) on the cover led to my decision to purchase it. The series would have a chance if they make original episodes rather than remaking old ones from the original. The theme is okay too. What's okay here in the states doesn't mean its okay there.

its funny cause jamie bamber mentioned in a battlestar galactica interview that he felt sorry for those people who were in weekly procedural shows where they catch the bad guys and put them in jail. so I hate seeing him here especially since hes not acting in the US so i don't get to see him on my tv screen anymore :(

you can always watch him online....at least seeing him with a job is better than him not working at all...
besides, i think Jamie's probably changed his views on procedurals, or at least he was interested in L&O or else he wouldnt have done it....:)

Since I'm Australian, I like both themes. But I have to say my favourite song is the Law and Order Trial by Jury theme. To me, even though i like this, it seems to be just another crime show. The show's alright, though.

I really dont understand why this L&O series has some sort of unique theme!! It should have the classic theme remixed like all other spinoffs!!
benjrh 2 years ago
why shouldn't it has a unique theme? this is set in the UK, it's a whole different city and country, it should be allowed to have its own unique theme, besides, I found this to be much classier than the original themes of the US versions.
BetaArtemis 2 years ago
What the original theme for the US is so NYC....idk I know why they wouldn't play jazzy music in the UK series b/c it doesn't fit the image of it of for the American version its the perfect fit for a NY crime series.
pops4u95 2 years ago
why does the UK version have to fit some American theme? UK is not NYC nor American, it should by all rights have its own style. A full orchestral music is a perfect fit for Britain. It is grand and regal just like the country itself.
BetaArtemis 2 years ago 40
Huh I was agreeing w/u dude I think jazz music is really american/NYC so I was saying it wouldn't fit for the UK opening.

It almost makes think Freema should've gone to Torchwood instead.
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 No forget that, she should've stayed, but she probably gets paid more for this and gets more adult exposure so who can blame her?
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 Unfortunately, Americans have a hard time understanding other countries' style and history, not everything has to sound like the American version, not everything show from America is god's greatest creation on Earth. And just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not right. It's only your opinion.
As for Freema, she gets to choose what job she wants, clearly she loved it, so I don't think it's any of your business.
BetaArtemis 1 year ago
@BetaArtemis Oh sod off w/that shit b/c you are wrong, not b/c I say so b/c the stupid theme speaks for itself. The song doesn't work, and you're just being a bloody nationalist now. I never criticized the fucking song b/c I think the song isn't American, it's b/c the SONG doesn't work musically and culturally. It's fucking stuffy and reflects a part of British bourgeois and feudal society that's dated and reflects power structures you're too fucking steeped in to even see. Get over yourself.
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 I'd feel the same way if it was a bad American song or reflected similar musical or cultural ideals from any other country, but you're too stuck on my passing remark about my own stupid nationality to see that. If you disagree w/my view, just say so, you don't have to be an arrogant twat about. Asshole!
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 And lastly, obviously Freema can choose whatever damn role in Britain she wants to play, DW and TW saw to that, I said as much myself.
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 Oh please, don't try to use big words that you probably don't even have the brain capacity to understand. The theme is grand and regal, it reflects through its instrumental tunes the rich history and unique style of Britain. It works perfectly well and just because you don't have the intelligence to truly appreciate the music doesn't mean it isn't well done. And by the way, swearing and using profanity really shows your level of intelligence.
BetaArtemis 1 year ago
@BetaArtemis I'm clearing more educated than you, I just don't have the overbearing ego of some moron like you. Who are you to tell people how to talk? Get over yourself!
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 And if you had something substantive to say about my criticism as opposed to personally attacking me when I already made a self deprecating remark that would show some degree of moderation, which you clearly lack. You wanna like the fucking song, go ahead. It doesn't make it any more british or better. As I said, once an ass always an ass. I'll leave you the last word since you're so stuck up you'll insist on it anyway.
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 Ohhhh you're more educated eh? Is that why you're first instinct is to cuss people out? Only morons do that you know. Poor kid. You must be so confused.
BetaArtemis 1 year ago
@breaks0 Get over yourself instead, the song works just fine, clearly you have no understand of music. It's grand, majestic, and orchestral, and perfect just the way it is. I could care less what this song is suppose to "reflect", it is musically beautiful and fits well with the style of many British series openings. They like their orchestral music, nothing wrong with that.
BetaArtemis 1 year ago
@BetaArtemis Actually since you're thick, imperialist and full of yourself, I will add that you're another one of those asses who thinks it's your place to criticize someone who's criticizing a piece of pop culture passing for art. Who are you to pass judgement on the critic? Who are you to invoke my nationality or your own for that matter? And who are you to bash me b/c I swear? If you're much of a prude to be able to deal w/swearing, I don't really care.
breaks0 1 year ago
@breaks0 At least I'm not acting like a kid who got pushed out of the sandbox, your mother clearly needs to wash your mouth with soap, only unintelligent people swear and insult to cover their own idiocy. I love the music because of its orchestral beauty, this theme is similar to the West Wing theme which I loved very much. So I'm stuck up and full of myself, I like it, grow up, deal with it, it's the real world kid, you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
BetaArtemis 1 year ago
@breaks0 Oh yeah, you're the only who can see all the truth right? You're the smart one who's more intelligent than everyone else. And you call me arrogant. I never brought my nationality into the conversation. But thank you for calling me an imperialist, I've always wanted to take over the world, so hey, that's all good for me.

@BetaArtemis But piss off if you think I can't criticize the song.

Not regal. Dreck city.

@BRitishInvasion1963 Correction: This is not a BBC show. It was shown on ITV. Incidentally what the hell is "Dreck city"?

@BetaArtemis i also dont think the american theme would work for the credit sequence because in all of the american law and orders there are still shots while the theme is going on and the film clips for this one wouldnt fit with the american theme.

How could you ever take seriously any court that wears wigs?
crock703 2 years ago
Perhaps because it signifies centuries of tradition, respect and honour.
If you live outside of the commonwealth, it may seem odd, however those who grew up in those countries see it as demanding respect and authority, as well as signifying intelligence and dedication towards the legal system.
And then of course some people are just idiots who find things like that amusing.
MXYMX 2 years ago 3
No, I find the notion of wardrobe bestowing respect and authority idiotic. The only real authority is reason, and its not advanced or sustained by a uniform. It's a prop, it's nonsense, and its not too different from a throne or a crown.
I don't think its funny at all. I think its sad that some people don't recognize authority in the legal system (through either their or the system's shortcomings) w/o a uniform there to announce it.
crock703 2 years ago
Unlike police officers, who are hired for their policing skills, a judge's qualification is his/her ability to reason. Officers need a uniform to signify their unique status w/in the law - they can legally restrain/detain people, unlike citizens.
Judges, however, don't need a uniform to identify themselves, esp not to confer air of authority, let alone demand respect(?) Their authority should be evidenced by their exceptionally knowledgeable just, fair and balanced administration of the court.
crock703 2 years ago
It is a tradition, get over it!
Some people actually respect tradition.
BetaArtemis 2 years ago
yeah, I don't take that deep of offense to it -- I do think the US robes are a little, questionable though. The upside I think is that a judges attire doesn't distract or influence the proceedings.
It just strikes me as overkill to add the wig, the red sashes, etc. I know its tradition, but from the outside it just looks unnecessary. At worst, its something a judge can hide behind -- they can let the 'costume' rather than their conduct speak to their authority.
crock703 2 years ago
As the great Stephen Fry once said, "It's the unnecessary things that make life worth living".
There are many things the British do well: Humour (With a 'U'!!!); complaining; making things seem depressing; making tea; arguing with the Welsh, Scottish & Irish (And for some reason, Liverpudlians).
The British also try to maintain traditions (Not all of them mind you). I suppose it's the same as religions, and thier customs. It's just something that's done. Not everything needs to be questioned.
MXYMX 2 years ago 4
Sure.
