  • eww united states of america

  • boring and predictable

  • what college did you go to????

  • I think it's important not to run away with ourselves on this one. Politics are so very permeating in society, so many lives depend on the political society running smoothly, that it is pretty scary to imagine such weighty matters depending on snap decisions. Informed choises aren't made that fast! That being said, informed decisions are made by informed people! Information should be free, but we can't let that ideology drive us to stupid extremes; some information does not need to be public.

  • Am I the only who thinks Dan has an awesome speaking voice?

  • I am absolutely convinced that religious conservatism in American politics will be stagnant amounts of dead in twenty years.

  • @D3rpyDavid you just wrote this on another video.... you fuckin troll

  • Wait, do you always look this tired? Perhaps you need more sleep, dear. Is everything alright?

  • @JaylaCucu I just think he has dark spots under his eye. Whether it is from lack of sleep or something else, I do not know.

  • I like nute gingrich, but i would be a moron to think that he could win

  • Here's an example of entitlements, an E-7 in the military with a stay at home spouse and five children earns about $70K a year and pays zero in taxes but receives between 4 and 6 thousand as a refund, basically getting a pay raise over the E-7 who is married to a working spouse with no children. It was their choice to have children why are we funding their choices. Also that E-7 lives on base pays no rent and pays for no utilities, has free medical and dental does this person deserve a refund?

  • Greed was the main problem for the meltdown of the housing market. Just because someone offers you a half million dollar home doesn't mean you should buy it. Just like in 2000/2001 when everyone was buying stocks in the tech market because it was only growing and there was no end in sight. Now we've shifted our greed to the have's and have nots. Give me an entitlement I have not earned or deserve...Straight tax is the only way to make it fair for everyone and a litmus test for entitlements.

  • This didn't come in my subscription box! :o

  • how i feel about the whole presidential race - 3:23... need I say more.... great vid!

  • Deregulating the financial sector DID NOT lead to the financial crisis. Have you ever studied economics? The financial crisis of 2008 was the result of too much government involvement. The market is not the problem. Government trying to control the market is the problem.

  • @OrangePlaster you are absolutly correct

  • talk about ALTA

  • Yeah dan did just put me in a state of awe yes great amazing idea why hasn't someone running for president came up with that seriously that sounded like something a founding father would have said thanks mr brown

  • what is your job? I just wonder, cause you should go into politics;)

  • I actually have been tossing around in my head that idea that you had a while ago about more direct democracy and I think I had an idea on how that could work. I'm going to try and build a mock website for what voting online could look like, & hopefully I'll have it up soon.

Having online voting could allow for more independent thought & less left vs right like we have going on now. We would still need a president for quick decision making & the courts for legal stuff but we could make it work.

  • Dan Brown for president 2028-2036!!!!!!!

  • /watch?v=gu6fEpADr3A&feature=context&context=G2f8513bFUAAAAAAAAAA

  • I'm voting for Vermin Supreme.

  • WHY ARE THEY ALL DISASTER CANDIDATES?? I AM ONLY 16 AND COULD DO SUCH A BETTER JOB

  • Awesome Idea

  • GOOD IEDA

  • i can understand one fking word from what u are saying cuz i am dutch..

but still i LOVE ure videos

  • Talk about a new start in 2012, maybe that was what the Mayans were referring to?! LOL! Good one Dan!

  • I guess it's time for you americans to vote who's gonna make the next wars you're so used to make...

  • Newt is a master at visceral politics and arousing emotion among the already converted, the proverbial preaching to the choir gambit, that won't be advantageous in a general election.

The Gopbots already made the mistake of nominating Mcain last time around ( still can't explain that one ) and now they are poised to make an even bigger albeit more entertaining faux pas if they choose Gingrich to be the nominee for 2012.

Romney/Christie 2012, will get it done

  • The far right of the base, if there is such a thing, simply wants or hopes for someone to embarrass Obama in a debate on a national stage, it's on the level of bloodlust now, and they feel Newt is the person who can facilitate that.

The problem is, Newt is pandering to a particular segment and only appeals to that segment like an art house film that puts up great per screen average numbers in limited release but fails to make any noise if or when it's released wide.

  • Wow Dan. You must honestly turn a blind eye when it comes to obama. I mean He's just as bad as any other person besides Ron Paul. If Paul doesn't get the nomination then they're really no point in voting.

  • YOU ARE DELUSIONAL! Deregulating didn't lead to the financial crisis! Spending those TRILLIONS of dollars did! Trillions that we didnt have.

  • Just because Ron Paul offers something different doesn't mean it's right.

The man is an absolute disaster candidate....

  • No, Youtube, I will not watch an 11 minute and 35 second Advertisement for a 3 minute 31 second video... #thisisbroken

  • @D1Ramrod you can skip those ads. Shut up.

  • likelikelikelikelikelike

  • I don't think the Constitution needs to be rendered in any way, it has established a great state! Its the leaders on capital hill and rich capitalists that have currupted the system. What we need are proactive representatives that work hard!

  • Yes the mood of the country changes every two minutes as opposed to two years, but we couldn't have an effective(affective?) government if reps were being continuously cycled in and out and lobbying for re-election. However I do think your reddit-esque law making policy could work.

  • FUCK YOU DAN!!!

    *RON PAUL 2012*

  • Dec 21st?? Really, Dan? haha

  • Why do you want us to turn into California???

  • bad idea, why ? because the country is doomed, u should be thinking about reconstructing a nation that will have failed by the time you get enough power to make a change in your community

  • LOL, Dan, you're trolling the "end of the worlders" now?

  • Dan Brown for president. i'm serious, if he ran for president, i'd so vote for him

  • Does anyone ever feel lost or stupid because you feel like you don't know enough? We get pieces through news but is there something that contains all of these events. For example what exactly caused the 2008 recession or what caused the attack on 9/11. I want to be very politically educated and I don't know how to go about it? What should I read as far as books, websites, or forums to get smart?

  • @Shnimberz In the evening flip through try to catch some of the news hours on MSNBC. I'd recommend Rachel Maddow. She's more analytical and very intelligent, and doesn't typically go over the top like Ed Schultz can be. Hard Ball is good in that way too. I'd also recommend the Daily show. Come for the comedy, stay for the extended interviews (they go up on the website). Also lots of political authors like to get on the Daily Show and The Colbert Report if you're looking for books.

  • @Shnimberz Also fark.com and reddit are sites to visit. Lots of smart and intelligent people there, who much of the time get in debates and arguments with each other that are fun and interesting to read. Lots of different perspectives and ideas to consider.

  • @Shnimberz It's also good to know people who involve themselves in politics and like to stay in the know as well. Then you can all talk about the things you've heard and read. Almost all of my friends are political, and I know a lot of what I know because of the things I hear from them. My mom also worked on Capitol Hill for years with Ron Wyden when he was a congressman (he's a senator now), so she knows a lot about how things work up on The Hill.

  • @Shnimberz Another good thing for me was the American History class I took in college. So much of our history is political. Everything I learned in that class has served as a good bed of knowledge that I can use to put new information into context. If you're not afraid of the commitment, you might want to check out a few local grassroots political organizations. They're a good way to learn your local politics, which in many ways is either more or just as important as national politics

  • @Shnimberz Sorry about sending you a small novella's worth of comments. :P

  • @Shnimberz Oh! And keep watching Dan Brown. This is one of my good stay informed habits. :)

  • words and stuff

  • I frekin love you. You make all of these depressing facts with regards to all of our terrible candidates and issues in the untied states funny and not stressful while making a great point.

  • Would love to add the option for a vote of no confidence on all official ballots.

  • haha the add on this video was the president one

  • I think not the 21st

everyone will be like THIS IS WHAT WILL KILL US ALL.

    :|

    Stupid people.

NO ONE IS GOING TO DIE.

Well I mean... not in that way.

  • Dan is there any chance you can let the end screen from chess stay on a bit longer? The overview is there for like 0.01 second. Perhaps 3 secs of the overview so we can easily pause it? Thanks~

  • @OnilinkHans i thinks its witty

  • @OnilinkHans click pause then unpause once, then double tap the space bar. it pauses and unpauses, that might help.

  • Is there any country in the world that has a real democracy?

  • @vruls Look into Australia. How I'm seeing it, we don't have such crappy electives for government...

  • guys im from the uk and don't entirely understand this..

who all votes for the republican candidates right now?

  • If i believed everything I read on the internet I would believe that Ron Paul would be the next president of the United States.

  • If you would please, follow up this video explaining what a constitutional convention is and your idea of what that change would look at. It would give us a better understanding of what you're talking about and allow the ball to start rolling on the issue. Thank you :)

  • What I really want to know is: if the United States is a republic, why does it need a republican party?

  • @Gallifrey103 The United States is a "democratic republic." Also, use wikipedia.

  • @foxyd3 I did. That's where I got it from. If it's also a democratic republic, why a democratic party?

  • @Gallifrey103 Seriously, I am not a encyclopedia. If you are truly interested in the history of America's political parties then you should take the time and look it up.

  • talk about megaupload dan

  • @996santiago shut up.

  • ur sorta boring!

  • RON PAUL 2012! =)

  • I'm not sure we want a government that follows every whim of the national mood. In fact, I would rather lengthen congressional terms. Two years already means representatives spend too much time campaigning and not enough legislating. So if we want the government to be more responsive, I think the answer lies elsewhere. I do agree that it may be time to restructure our government to account for modern realities. I don't think we can have a convention that would ever agree on anything now though.

  • new president every month

  • FUCK PIZZA!!!

  • Brilliant idea!

  • I think two years between elections is a good amount of time. Any longer and the elected officials would no longer reflect the views of the country. Any shorter and the elected officials would a) never have time to actually do anything before the next guy comes in and b) never want to do anything important because it might jeopardize their elections. It's dangerous to always have them worrying about the next campaign.

  • Dan, you HAVE to talk about ACTA.

    Far worse than SOPA/PIPA.

Please like and email/tweet this message to Dan.

This video explains how dangerous ACTA is: /watch?v=N8Xg_C2YmG0

Make sure to send him this video.

ACTA needs more attention from the public

  • I don't think that would be a good idea. People would change their vote based upon frustration and stuff like that really quickly. You need some stability. IMHO just get rid of the gerrymandering and fix education.

  • Comment removed

  • what a crazy combination to end a video with. first propose a constitutional convention and then at the very end that...

  • Your proposal of a constitutional convention was about as unexpected as the volatility of the South Carolinian electorate.

  • Ron Paul is the best.

  • you say mobile different to ever single american i've met (i'm australian)

  • I don't know anything about this Gingrinch dude, but why oh why must you insist that Paul doesn't have a chance? He's the only person who has EVER gotten me excited about politics.

  • @PockASqueeno Can't tell you why Dan said that. But look at the primary results for a clue. Ron Paul has a devoted following, but it's not a large one. In South Carolina he had 13% of the vote. In Florida, PPP has him steady at 10%. He continues to get his fans excited about politics. But he's not even close to winning.

  • I think we need a little more stability than the internet does :)

  • You should be proud. It's insanely clever. I repeated it to my father. Don't worry - I gave you credit!

  • Dan your a fucking disappointment. Ron Paul '12. Don't lose hope guys.

  • I always have the end screen song stuck in my head..lol

  • If you think we would have a bill of rights in any new constitution, you're deluded. The first, second, and fourth amendments are constantly under attack today, and in any NEW constitution, we'd have a national church, no guns, no freedom to assemble, and no privacy, just for starters.

  • A new Constitutional Convention might be a good idea, but I think a lot of people would be afraid of losing some rights in the process. With liberal opinions gaining in popularity, I think the second amendment would be in the biggest danger of going away. And while I don't agree with conservatives on much, there are definitely legitimate arguments in favor of gun ownership. A new constitutional convention means a new bill of rights, which might just see the end of gun rights, among other ones.

  • Constitutional Convention wouldn't be a bad idea, in my opinion. Also, I think planning just about anything on the 21st of December of this year is a great idea.

  • Wow nothing like spreading a bias opinion based on half truths and incomplete facts thank you Mr Pogo from fueling the stereotype that Americans are ignorant. By the way do you actually RESEARCH or do you just let the media tell you what to think, like a typical good little zombie of our generation? Here is a challenge for you: come up with fifteen good things (Facts not opinions) about some like, oh shall we say, Herman Cain? If you are having trouble watch some ZoNation on youtube.

  • @Sikraj What the heck are you talking about? Well of course he is going to have bias, he is a vlogger expressing his thoughts. If you want pure facts on anything you won't watch a vlog.

  • Dan, what do you think about ACTA?

  • A new convention would be an amazing idea. Just to see what they would come up with

  • I'm not even American and i find this interesting.

  • How is Ron Paul out when 99% of the delegates are still left unaccounted for?

  • I would also enjoy a new constitution because while the amendment count can get out of hand, the biggest problem has to be it's outdated. In a world where the people can not only speak freely but also collect themselves easily enough to make large movements (SOPA blackouts, SC Gingrich vote, etc.), we should have voices now. The original constitution was created by a small group of people, admittedly smart people, but now we can congregate as one large group of 250 million, we should be heard.

  • I think that is a great idea.

  • Listen to be honest I do agree that our general election is to far apart to fully represent the mindset of America. However I also think that this is a good thing. If we didn't have this wait we could make moves in the heat of the moment that then when we look back on it could turn out to of been terrible decisions.

  • IT IS NOT TOO LATE FOR RON PAUL! Watch GStolyarovII's latest video: watch?v=bC-tZuqZVuE

  • Good idea!

  • Constitutional Convention on Dec. 21, 2012? Oh shit, that's what the Mayans were talking about?

  • I think you should grow a beard again...

  • Personally, I think that the governed should be governed by the living. Meaning that we should make at least amendments in the constitution that better fit today's society. Roughly 200 years ago, I don't think that our forefathers knew how things were going to be now, and I think (speaking out of sheer, gutsy feeling; I can't support it with evidence) that they were betting on the fact that some time in the future, things were going to change. So, yes. I think a change should be made.

  • Deregulation didn't cause the economic chaos. The Fed held interest rates too low making money easier to attain for the banks. The banks then took that easy money and gave it out to higher risk people. Once the recession hit, the Fed started printing massive amounts of cash to inject into the economy. Spending money sounds great, but for every new dollar they print, the value of every existing dollar goes down. It's dropped 30% relative to the JPY over just the past five or six years.

  • ... As I was watching this, She's A Rebel by Green Day started playing. Oh the irony.

  • ... As I was watching this, She.

  • ron paul

  • @aCloudOfHaze my sentiments exactly

  • Ron Paul rah rah rah!

  • A constitutional convention would only work if everyone agreed that the country needed to be substantially changed in a similar way, and I don't think that's going to happen. However, I think maybe an amendment would be more fitting in deaigning a new voting system.

  • Ron Paul out of contention?

No, sir. That what they WANT you to think, Dan. Obama is no better than Newt OR Romney. If Ron Paul ever truly drops out of the election, then I will have no part in it.

  • you know one reason I don't like Obama? He tells you what you want to hear. !

  • @black9897 They ALL do.

  • @black9897 Most to all politicians do that. -_- Politics seem to be a very emotional thing.

  • @hoiaroam Yes. This is why (one of the many reasons) i'm voting Ron Paul.

  • The political leaders now days are too corrupt and dont have the best interest in mind to create a whole new constitution. We need our government to stop trying to play the role of God and provide everything for people, thats not freedom.

  • Chuck norris supported Newt. that's what happened... I'm serious.

  • dan you got me into reading noam chomsky after watching that documentary on your other video. i love you.

  • Wow tht sounded wrong i like the end song thingy wow you no what nermind

  • I like your end

  • Oh, and I'm wearing headphones. So that sound you made with your lips there at the end, was like RIGHT in my ear.

  • I'm such a dork. I mouth the words to the outro.

  • Thumbs up you watched the VERY end of the video!

  • I don't know if this is a good idea, but i do know that there are a lot of Americans that will not be willing to change the constitution at any cost. This kind of radical change is only possible during very hard times, people do not seem motivated enough.

Already such a convention would be expensive and will not seem urgent to most people. (and will probably not have a RADICAL outcome) wich would be enough to convince most taxpayers it is a bad idea.

  • a new constitutional conference would be really great, just cause it's sorta been a while

  • Just to let you know, there are anti-obama ads on your videos.

  • you have a job?!?!?! i thought this was your job

  • @juteboxs He does stuff similar to this for the music channel Fuse.

  • Yesterday, I was reading the federalist and anti-federalist papers, they were discussing the senate, as proposed originally. The anti-federalists feared that the proposed senate was too similar to aristocracy. One of the reasons that they feared this was because the terms were so long. The federalist made the point that if the terms were shorter, our country would lack stability, which could ward off foreign investors...

  • Now im kinda scared about a 3rd world war cus i live.....maybe 1 mile at furthest from Oak Ridge, aka- were they make nuclear bombs

  • Reversal in 48 hours, you should have followed the Irish Presidential Election

  • vlogging with a van in the room might have been interesting...

  • @appleinfl I'm sorry, I phrased that question wrong and did not mean that. What I meant to say is "Do you think its right that we, the American people, should use our tax payers money to pay for those who can not afford health insurance? (Including those that had the opportunity to such insurance, but denied it to save money) Meaning, that when they become injured or hurt out of their own negligence, it becomes our (tax payers) responsibility to pay for their medical costs. Is that right?

  • @CodyFund Not every injury is out of negligence. Do you really think someone who develops a brain tumor deserves to die because they spent their years working on an assembly line, and don't have the money for health insurance? We already offer welfare to those hard working people who are down on their luck, along with the lazy. There's no way to completely discriminate between the two. So is healthcare a privilege for the wealthy only? Or is it a right like ever other 1st world country?

  • @appleinfl When I said negligence I was strictly referring to college students that have the opportunity to purchase health insurance at a low rate through their school, but choose not to. And then they go and get hurt (out of their own negligence by for-fitting their health insurance because they didn't think they'd need it).

  • @CodyFund Like. If I went to school and chose not to get health insurance and then broke my arm while rock climbing and the hospital had to admit me and treat me, would you want to pay for that or do you think that I should pay for it? I'm partial to the latter.

  • @CodyFund Well they can stay on their parents plan till their 26. Let's say they don't have insurance for the sake of argument. And let's say he decides to renact Jackass and jumps off a roof and brakes an arm. And let's just say he is deep in debt and can't afford a hospital treatment. Are we honestly so uncaring that we turn someone away regardless of the circumstances? Last time I checked the hippocratic oath spoke nothing of a patients finances in determining care and treatment.

  • The thirty-second preroll played before this video was an anti-Obama ad. Just thought you would like to know.

  • Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks recently started up WOLF-PAC, which is basically its main goal is to call for a constitutional convention for campaign finance reform. That's also something to look into.

  • I've thought that we need a complete redo on out entire system for a while now. Politicians are so outta touch with the people of this country. Then again, it all really boils down to who is sitting down in that convention and designing this new system as well.

  • I blame all society's woes on the media. If anyone you know, cares + stuff

  • I would love the idea of a constitutional convention, expect that I feel like the politicians of today are two caught up in divisiveness and polarizing rhetoric to actually sit down and have an honest, reasonable discussion of something like this. I think any new constitution or other document that may result would be horrendously garbled and unfocused. I simply wouldn't trust the politicians of today with something like this. I mean, look what they tried to do with SOPA.

  • Hate to break it to ya, but Daily Show did "How the Gingrich stole South Carolina" Monday night. IMO, your joke is better.

  • can you not talk about politics please?

  • No one would show up on Dec 21st. Nothing would get done. Aim for November.

  • where do you work at?

  • I give you points for the title. But thats abou tit.

  • john hunstmann was the only good candidate and nobody gave a shit about him just because he didnt have the finances to run a campaign. in my mind, the fact that its the richest who are considered first is sad.

  • I wouldn't be opposed to having a new constitution. I mean, the old one's great, but goddamn, the amendments are longer than the document itself now, and there's so many crossings-out due to some of them, we might as well just start from scratch. Hell, most of the states have had more than one in their history. Only Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont have ones dating back to the 18th century.

  • @TTEchidna The Founding Fathers wanted the constitution to be amended, that is why it is called a "living document". They wrote it for the time, but knew that it would need to be changed according to the political and cultural changes that happened in the USA over the years.

  • @acurran1194 They wanted it to be amended, yes, but I don't think they ever foresaw the immense increase in size OR power the US would have over the course of only two centuries.

Nor, I think, did they foresee a day in which the US government would have become so fundamentally corrupt that it basically was no better than Parliament at he time of the revolution. Hell, that's the entire reason they made the Articles of Confederation so weak.

  • @TTEchidna Yes that's true that they probably didn't see the growth of America, but I don't think that a new constitution would be any different than what we have now, as it's always changing anyways. Plus, that would be a monumental task and I highly doubt any politician would take it on in today's world.

The Articles of Confederation were TOO weak, and ultimately failed, very early on, that's why we have the Constitution now.

  • @acurran1194 It's a living document, sure, but keep in mind, they didn't foresee the Supreme Court basically allowing corporations to contribute unlimited funds...

  • @TTEchidna that's cause only 14 states states existed in the 18th century...

  • @SketchyHippopotamus doesnt change the fact that the US constitution is so outdated its not even funny anymore. we have this thing called internet now. comunication is instant. decisions can be made instantly. it should not take this long to get shit done anymore.

  • @SketchyHippopotamus Even still, a greater majority of states are on their second or later constitutions.

  • @TTEchidna Do you honestly think that any politician (except for Ron Paul) or even citizen has the moral/intellectual ability to recreate something as important as a new Constitution??

  • @weq7 Who says we need politicians? Sure, the delegates would be sent by the state houses, but what's to say we can't get our guys in on a state level first? After all, it's an easier election than the national one.

  • @TTEchidna North Carolina's has never changed...but they didn't get one until after the civil war

  • @CashMoneyBunny Wikipedia says NC's on their 4th.

  • The problem is that there are too many corrupt selfish people with detrimental ideals in the government right now to pull another convention. We need more people who actually care and are smart. Very smart, socially and intellectually. We can't mess up our own constitution be because then we might not trust it. Basically, politicians or large corporations shouldn't be involved.

  • I like you Dan. Thank you for making videos with substance.
