@Panthiest I think if you do live in an apartment and want one of these beautiful dogs you need to be very active and out a lot daily. I found that for university with my malamutes that inline skating with them was the best, as it was quicker, easier, more tiring. You do have to revise your situation though before getting one of these dogs, regardless of your home size.

@ImSoOffended You don't just go on random trails. These are designated trails, and groomed for the races. And no, it all depends on the dog, the trail, and the sled, where you want to have your dogs.

How much can three huskis pull? How much does the sled weigh? How do you keep teh sled from over running them when you stop?

@LinnTractorNut Well a Normal full sized dog sled weighs around 24 - 30 pounds. 3 huskies can pull a sled, with a person on it for a good distance. As long as they are all properly trained, they can go for a long time. As for how much weight they can pull, I am not 100% sure on that. The sled has a break on it. It's at the back of the sled and you pick your foot up off the runner and step on the break. It goes down into the ground, and has metal that digs into the snow to help stop.

Thanks for sharing your video of our inaugural Thunder Bay Classic in Alpena MI. We had a great time. We hope the word will spread and next years will be 3X the size of this years. To answer some questions asked about your video......Any type of dogs can be used, but we tend to stick to the northern breeds. Many dogs seen here were AKC Siberians. There was also one Samoyed (Big white fluffy dog) shown. The rest of the dogs were a mix-breed. we label them as alaskan huskies.

Buy the book Mush, actually buy any books you can on Mushing. Also, look for a group near you that does Sled dog racing. The people are always willing to help out newcomers! We are just starting to get into the sport ourselves.

Commands such as Gee and Haw to turn. But most of the time, you just need a good lead dog who knows to stay on the trail. ALOT of training and repeat exercises.

Some are Siberian Huskies, some are Alaskan, some are Malamutes, some are mutts, I am not sure what those are at 3:14, I think they are just a cross.

Huskie are blue eyed and have a more centered ears as were malamutes are quite larger and have almond brown eyes and kinda have lil ears n there sides somewhat like a bears once you see them side by side you can really notice the differences Female malamutes are harder to tell tho from a distance
