omg! so true! I'm a graphic design student in Washington and I totally know what your talking about. I'm in my 3rd year of school and me and my friends totally have those types of conversations. And we all say "BOO!" to Comic Sans and Papyrus . And it's crazy how much I actually notice typography now, it makes me think "why didn't I ever notice this before?"
@swimmingsurfergirl24 And right now one thing I'm totally in love with is the typography they used for the new Princess Bride dvd cover. It says Princess Bride upwards and upside down. SO CLEVER! :)
Argg... I know what you mean. I digitally paint and whenever I tell anyone, they automatically assume that I'm a Graphic Designer. Even though they are completely different.
And I have this really bad habit of critiquing the art in comic strips, like perspective and anatomical errors, and pointing it out to people in my family. No one understands lol.
Actually, wait....About typefaces, I see "Feast Of Flesh BB" being used everywhere these days. I used it for a class once and ever since, I instantly recognize it anywhere I go. It's a pretty easy to recognize font like Papyrus and Comic Sans, but still, it's one not a lot of people seem keen to point out, but I do every time I see it. Hell, a recent movie trailer even used it.
I'm an average Joe, I don't have any weird obsessions at all....fuck, I'm boring. Hell, you might as well just start calling me Toothpick now because I'm as boring as a toothpick...
Boy, I've never had a crappier moment than the moment I realized that I'm never going to be an interesting person.
I love keeping fish! Sometimes people who have only ever had a goldfish or a betta start talking to me about it... Usually I just kind of smile and nod because if I said anything it would just be telling them what they do wrong! Here's a tip: even the round-bodied fancy goldfish like ryukins and orandas need 10 gallons to themselves. If you want more than one, get a bigger tank. When properly cared for they can live up to 20 years!
bad type is not just papyrus and comic sans. it's pretty 'trendy' in the design world to dislike these typefaces, i guess. but it's pretty much naming the obvious.
OMG i'm having typography classes this semester too !! We have to cut out different types of letters from newspapers and magazine and organize them into families . And we are studying optical and mechanical spacement and alignment in words/texts .

Typography is really interesting, I wish more people thought so. My CELT certificate has about 10 different fonts in 6 different sizes and some of them aren't even aligned with the lines underneath them.. and not in an intentional way, the cert was supposed to look kind of oldy-worldy classy and dignified, that's what they were going for with their horrible boarder and so on.
I feel like whenever you don't have a use for your green screen, you should just put a random picture or phrase up there. Definitely know what you mean about typefaces though. :)
I collect the marbles our of Ramune drinks, coins of all shape and such, and... Books. I have too many books! Lol! I have to ask though; What do you do with a Graphic Design degree? and like... having to choose if I want the picture to be in the center or to the bottom left! It's such an issue for me! And if someone does one and its off or just too strong and cheap looking.. I FREAK.
And don't even get me STARTED for if people add words or "inspiring quotes".
I've got a thing about 17th-19th century gentlemen's clothing. Ascots, waistcoats, buccaneer boots, smoking jackets, that kind of thing. I only have 1 friend who's as into it as I am.
