Please help me,my son is exactly like jamey, we have tried everything, he is 17 and I and my other two sons and is father have been doing everythng possible, I also have a form of rhuematoid arthritis and multiples sclerosis . I cannot keep this up, any thoughts or suggestions? thank you in advance.. P.s . We are seraching for a groupp home, but I just don't think any can handle him, He also has seizures and is on meds, nothing works...
@Jesusfreak3378 Hi, I'll contact you on a personal message, but meanwhile, stay strong! I know it's hard and sometimes all seeems hopeless and the world is a dark and unfriendly place for people raising children with severe autism, but the more light and love shone on severe autism, the weaker the darkness will be.....
@CDFoakley Thank you for you rencourgement, we are i crisismode again, he is not 18, so our hands are tied,I am to place him, but there is NO other option, please pray that doors open up.
@intoxicatedZombehh , I should cover your mouth and tie up your arms and legs , then tight you to a tree and leave you hanging,, then tell us if your still laughing
@IntoxicatedZombehh,, i should come over there put some thing in your fucking mouth and tight up your arms and legs so you wouldn't move and leave you hanging in a tree. Then tell us if your still fucking laughing then ,,
Some like the feel of a precise stimulus, some collect small objects, some masturbate constantly, and some inflict themselves pain... am I right?
Human brain, for exemple a masochist person, can also feel a lot pleasure from inflicting themselves pain.. surely not the kind of pleasure most of the people would seek out for, but it is possible to become insensitive to pain too.
I hope I am not the 1001st bringing up those points in a comment. I am studying to become a speech-language pathologist and I know that humans need interaction with others and that autism people need to find another way around this because they don't see any benefit in spending or talk one another. It seems like your son took a lot of drugs trying every possible solution. Was it ever given to him anti-pain meds?
@devouringone3 Naltrexone, which blocks endogenous opiods in brain is closest to it. Though he did have Vicodin after wisdom teeth out and he was flying high on it. Very happy. Docs won't prescribe that daily for autism and self injury though. It's not practical, unless pain is causing the self injury.
I think you said something like it in the video, "undetected pain", Jameys must be using self-injurious behaviors to try helping himself in that sort of situation where he feels helpless? I can't call it communication because it is said that autism don't get anything out of human interaction... and I don't know about "severe autism".
@devouringone3. Jamey has probably retired many professionals. He's extremely resilent when it comes to responding to anything that stops him from hitting self. It's a very deeply ingrained habit, and he's strong. The best things are constant pro-actiive interventions: vibration tubes, musical videos, warm baths, walking, going on car rides, eating foods he likes, massage, aromatherapy, etc...it's non stop all day. And if he gets sick, dear God, everything goes sideways real quick.
@devouringone3 this is an ignorant statment i have autism and i do like to interact with people just not as much as "normal" i have self injurious behaviors mostly when im stressed or over excited sometimes just at random
@mianabanana Yes, we have help, but he's a 24/7, 1:1 (as in being GLUED to him) operation. So, we really do need more help. We're fighting for more support again right now. The fight never ends. Agencies don't understand how hard this is, that's one reason why I post videos
@CDFoakley I understand completely. My brother is an 11 year old autistic and he bites himself, sometimes so badly that he takes chunks out of his arms. It is definitely a 24/7 operation, and at most times at least 2 people are needed to keep him safe. He is now in a group home/hospital where he has 1:1 care most of the time, but he also wears protective gear on his arms. It is very hard to deal with and keep sane, and I admire your strength. God bless.
he seems like he has sensory integration disorder caused by the autism. He may be hitting to calm himself . try hugging him TIGHTLY. this will cause deep pressure stimulation and will calm him. he will then stop hitting. he is hitting to get relief from the sensory pain he is feeling, i know this cause Ive been there. I'm on the high end of the spectrum and i used to hit and bite myself A LOT until i figured out that a tight hug helps. please try it i know it will help.
Hugging him tightly sometimes works, other times, you may get socked as he's trying to hit himself...he is really really strong. And his head punching comes in rapid time...I've been clipped before, but you're right, he does need that comfort, it's just hard trying to hug him as he's slamming his fists into his head and face
There are other people like him ,my son is 5 and self injurious, he hits his head and legs if we stop him from getting to his head and will bite his hands and arms. He does it when he is frustrated, in pain, happy, after seziures pretty much any time he will do it. We have not tried drugs that weren't natural, besides for bacteria and yeast- we have come close, but Chelation is helping The head hitting stops when we give him fluconazole for 2 weeks, then comes back but the biting is constant
oh fudge! his behavior is so bizzare!! Maybe one day there will might be a [real] solution to your son's sib! I havent seen anyone like that before [in my opinion] OH FUDGE!!! your son is at stake! he needs [real] help! im shocked too!
It is bizzare...but we aren't giving up....it's not going to be one thing that helps him, it's going to be a consistent amount of solid supports, but when you are dealing with BUREAUCRATS who get in the way of resources and supports, it doesn't make finding treatment for autistic persons easy....you're always stymied by paperwork, meetings, abstract solutions and outright apathy and disregard for your child....

Now that's a real mother's love! I wish I lived near you. I'd help if it was only to mow your lawn or do the dishes.

Sometimes he requires 2:1 or 3:1 staffing, which is hard to get agencies to understand this level of care.
