  • and her neighbor uses an iphone 4 :D

  • So let me get this straight. Microsoft stole those people's ideas and now is making profits from it. I'm outraged.

  • It's called the dock, and Mac OS X had it in 2001!!!

  • @TheAppleComputerFan

Lol, it's called a taskbar. Windows has had it since 1995. The layout is different, but the baseline function is the same. Call it a dock, big flippin deal. If it smells like a task bar looks like a task bar, and acts like a task bar, then guess what buddy....IT'S A TASK BAR. Fact is, the Windows task bar is still more representative of its earliest version, than it is of the "dock."

  • What ?? Windows 7 has a taskbar ? Gee, kind of like Win 95.

  • @onanidaily Actually the taskbar has undergone a huge transformation for Windows 7. Here's a MSDN blog post that probably over-explains the changes, take a look.

    blogs.msdn. com/e7/archive/2008/11/20/happy-anniversary-windows-on-the-evolution-of-the-taskbar.aspx

  • @WindowsVideos Thank you for the Microsoft party line response but different is not always better !

Why reinvent the UI wheel with every OS release. Vista was a travesty and now 7 has followed suit.

Bells and whistles do not make things easier to understand. They just clutter up the UI and require more resources.

Stop writing OS's for two year olds and go back to writing them for your bread and butter - the business world.

  • @onanidaily The developers describe their work as evolutionary, not revolutionary. They're not trying to reinvent the wheel, just make it function better. We feel the taskbar changes have definitely made improvements in efficiency and design and improve the experience for most users.

The majority of feedback from users has been positive so far, but of course there's bound to be criticism. We're definitely always open to feedback though...what are some of the main changes you'd like to see?

  • @WindowsVideos The main changes I would like to see ? No changes.

I have not migrated to Windows 7 (and probably won't for a few years) so I apologize if what I am about to say has already been incorporated into the OS.

Give people an opportunity to select the UI they are familiar with.

XP gave users the ability to select the "classic" theme which was fortunate as the teletubby theme was confusing to many longtime users.

  • @WindowsVideos Vista went further off the deep end by making simple operations more confusing to people who had used previous Microsoft OS's. (Example : Display properties ???)

Windows 7 may have addressed these issues but I doubt it.

In short, change the kernel as much as you want but retain the ability to interact with it in a fashion that helps people to be more efficient and does not require a learning curve for each new release. (BTW - This applies to Office releases as well.)

  • @WindowsVideos you know whats great, i can do everything a pc user can do, and also do what a mac user can do, all you have to do is partition our mac harddrive and install windows 7, so i guess that makes me a pc/mac user to bad pc users cant do this, and im a mac

  • @onanidaily You do realise that Windows controls over 90% of the market of computers, correct? That means that almost anyone would be using Microsoft products, whether it being a 5 year old drawing on Paint programmes, a 25 year old writing his resume for a new job, a 40 year old business man or a 65 year old playing the pre-installed chess programme in Windows 7. Translation? Of course Microsoft develops all those programmes! And all those features, too. To cater to 90%, think like the 90% do.

  • windows sucks

  • So what is Microsoft trying to say, that real the people who are using Windows are ugly so they need re-enactment.

  • @ibpointless2 i know right!

  • Super + e.

For those who know what im talking about.

  • "i know what you're thinking, Microsoft used kirstens idea" lol... well not quite kirsten but ur pretty damn close.

  • @Meta221 Mac's idea, ja?

  • hmmmm, what does this remind you of?

  • what's the song in the background?

  • DUDE HER RE-ENACTMENT IS

    SOOOOOOO HOT

  • Wtf, we have a differant advert in the UK, with someone else claiming that it was her idea, this is so much bs from microsoft.

  • We also have someone else in Australia claiming it was their idea too

  • Another thing I love about PC ads? Multiculturalism / ethnic diversity. Macs should learn.

  • i literally HATE this commercial. and all windows 7 commercials. why on earth did they think that showing people with vague ideas like "make it faster" or "make it easier" would be a good idea? obviously anyone developing an OS would know that these are aspects that need improving. it if it's supposed to be ironic, then that makes it even more of a terrible commercial. lame irony.

  • And the oscar for best cameo in a commercial that needs an upgrade goes to...(drumroll)...Randy Clark! bup bup bup.

  • The guy she sits next to looks like Will Ferrel

  • the black guy looks like he's in a coma

  • My freinds and I want to hear from the guy sitting next to Kirsten

  • Gotta love how they parody reenactments (They always use better-looking people for reenactments).

  • @Arqui3D

So they are paroding them? I was wondering what was the point of it ...

It is still bizarre tought ...

  • @Arqui3D dang thats what i tough when i watched

  • Why does that guy look so familiar?

  • how did windows need someone to tell them to make their product easier

  • The guy looks like Joe Montana

  • The guy looks like Joe Montana

  • hmmm...

  • yes, go mac go down the drain

  • @Heartagramerz Is that supposed to be a insult to Apple or a compliment to Apple?

  • What do you think?

  • Insult.

  • 8k views haha

  • Windows 7 Rocks!

  • This is so old. I have this feature on my system (not windows) since last millennium...

  • Those two make a Great Team!!!!

  • Absolutely Brilliant

  • "PBS.Triumph.of.the.Nerds"

you all should check it out, explains the whole story quite well.

simply put, Microsoft was smart in the business sense, he made the OS available for all PC's, instead of his own hardware.

  • haha nice. :)

  • The Windows 7 Taskbar, aka Superbar, is awesome!

  • @sterlingman i don't understand how it works so superiorly to vista? the vista taskbar shows what you have open in another window by rolling over the tab. also it shows the name for each window instead of just the symbol

  • I like how thumbnail previews are grouped, such as IE8 tabs, and can be managed w/out having or restore IE8, if it's minimized, and closed a tab.

    Jump Lists a nice, too.

I also think it looks nice having just an icon representing a program, but I understand some might have problems identifying which program is which, and which program is open and which program is closed.

The beauty of it is that you can set the "Superbar" to display taskbar buttons in pre-Windows 7 style.

  • WOW - very nice !!

  • a billon ideas = 7 windows 7

  • if u love Pcs

    go to facebook

    and become a fan of

    I bet I can find 2,000,000 PC's

  • Is that Kirsten Hille?

  • i no the guy that was next to the main girl! my mom went to college with him !

  • lol@ all the Win vs Mac debates going on in the comments section. Are people still doing that?

  • Don't all the haters know that Mac and Windows NEED EACHOTHER?

It's the cometition that makes them so great.

  • Yeah, it's like the Ying Yang

  • This is in Vista too.

  • LOL you jsut noticed at least 1 WASTE from making Windows 7. find the others. HINT: there are LOTS.

  • Obvious Fanboi is obvious.

  • I still cant beleive that windows 7 is $120 Microsoft should give vista users a Biiiiiiig discount for their trouble. How about $30 like apple is doing? $50 at the most. Come on microsoft!!!!!!!!

  • Since when has Microsoft offered ANY compensation for the problems they create?

  • O RLLY?

  • No Kirsten, I don't think that was your idea. I think it was ermmm.... apple's you moron!!!

  • why are you so bitter? is it because W7 does kick ass? Have you heard of a tv commercial???? Go back to school you idiot!

  • I am not bitter at all. Why would I be bitter about Microsoft's poor imitation of the dock which has been a core feature of Mac OS X for over 7 years? And yes, I have heard of a TV commercial, but I don't remember there being a law which means I may not criticise a TV commercial. Maybe you are the one who should go back to school.

  • Dudes, calm the heoy-ho down.

If you want a "YOU STOLE MY IDEA" battle, (Because why should a good idea be shared? That would be CRAZY!), it's Apple that stole their entire GUI from Xerox.

I'd argue that it's just expanding on Flip 3D and the Vista Toolbar, it did the exact same thing except they didn't condense the programs into one icon and expand it when the mouse was over it.

But the two companies need each other. It's their competition that gives us these great products.

  • do you mean Xerox the printer company?

Can you prove or explain this please?

  • Yeah, sure.

In 1970 Xerox formed the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) for R&D, and their engineers developed pretty advanced stuff for that time, time the laser printer, and the Alto, a computer.

The Xerox Alto (1973) had the first know GUI (Also known as "What You See Is What You Get" or "WYSISYG" back then) and a mouse, a break from the command line systems of the day.

  • The Alto had the unusual design of having it's screen setup in a portrait for instead of the common landscape setup of today. It made total sense back then, after all you spent your day working on physical papers in the same way.

All of this was space age compared to everyone else, but unfortunatley when the PARC engineers pitched this to their superiors in Xerox, the brass didn't see the potential of the product. Although about 2000 units were made they were not sold to the pubic.

  • In 1979 Xerox opened it's doors to anyone who wanted to see what they were developing, and on the same day Steve Jobs and co went in, saw the GUI, thought "Holy Cr*p, we need that", and redirected their development of the Apple Lisa to have a GUI.

Years later when Apple sued Microsoft for "copying the look and feel" of the Mac OS, Xerox counter sued Apple.

When I said "Stole" I was making a play on the whole fanboy fight, but I think you know what I mean.

  • Wow, that was riddled with spelling and grammar errors. Should have re-read before I posted. My bad.

  • My next computer is so gonna be windows 7

  • microsoft thinks we think we're ugly

  • sorry Kirsten but i don't think it was you they got the idea from.

  • no it was actually Kylie who came up with it you moron. haven't you watched her commercials?

  • you get what you pay for!

  • So it is fast but it is expensive God Damn in ! 300 dollars, are you kidding me !

  • @TheCroatianStation Thinking the same thing

  • Its not so expensive, and thats the upgrade. It will come bundled into new machines. I have used XP, Vista and now 7, and I have to say 7 kicks them all into the dust!

  • hahahhah

  • I got the three pack for $149.

That's half your price. Or one sixth of it for each computer.

  • gonna look into windows 7

  • have u seen the win7 dock compared to leopard's?

  • are you serious? maybe you should visit your doctor to check your eyes....

if windows 7 had anything like an "unfunctional" and retarded looking dock, i'd be a linux user now, but, i'm not! go screw your mac!

i'm a pc and windows 7 was MY idea!

  • the thing i love most about both PC and Mac fanboys is when they preach marketing slogans. if you haven't compared the Dock to the Taskbar you've no basis for an argument. mindless ranting and name calling is all you can resort to.

  • well, i'm a fanboy and im proud of it!

and it really pisses me off when someone says stupid things like that!

what i do admit is that 'superbar' kinda reminds me of KDE's. - that statement doesnt piss me off, cos its pretty much true

ps. go and visit macward66's channel or applesoldier's - than let me see you not get annoyed by their ramblings

  • lol im starting to wanna buy windows 7 but im saving up for a mac! but i can install windows on a mac anyway so it the best of both worlds. hey guys if u dont mind plz check out my latest video. its an owl city parody. im not much of a great singer but its about windows and mac so it might entertain u. thnx! :P

  • what's a mac?

  • overhyped wallet burners

  • so what's a win7 pc?

  • A PC With Windows 7 on it

  • r u 4 serious? :P

  • i don't know but i think it's something that is grossly overpriced and does the same thing as Windows 7

  • well if you don't know there's no point in answering.

  • it was a joke and you took me literally. When I said "I don't know..." I didn't mean i literally do not know what MAC is. I have 2 Mac Pros PLUS a new HP with Windows 7 which I LOVE even more.

  • So I'm guessing you didn't purchase the Mac Pros yourself, right? Because if Macs are "grossly overpriced" why would you yourself get two units of the most expensive Mac out there. I find it hard to that "it was a joke". there was no indication of sarcasm let alone any humor.

  • MAC Pros supplied by work. Lighten up dude.

  • 2 Mac Pros? sounds like BS to me but w/e. i guess u can be anyone you want to on the internet.

  • whatever makes you sleep at night and don't project :)

  • its good that they show the actual developer we need more credit

  • Yeah! you probably have had a Crash you just didnt notice it. It does that to mine too, while im downloading something, writing something in Microsoft Office, or whenever im surfing the net. Its a very unstable OS

  • the only time i've ever had a crash was once on one of my older computers when I tried overclocking the graphics too high. my pcs (laptops and desktops) haven't crashed once and macs crash just as much. when pcs crash, its usually from badly coded 3rd party software. you gave absolutly nothing to back up your false claim. all be here, i'll keep owning you all day

  • if i ever get a MAC for x-mas im gunna use boot camp and install windows 7 for sure!

  • Well to be fair, Windows 7's taskbar completely rips off the Mac Dock, which completely rips off KDE.

  • NO the apple dock doesnt rip off KDE. It rips off the NeXT Step Dock which rips off the Acorn Dock.

  • fyi: you're the one flaming a windows promo video, how much more pathetic can you get, you already have the ads out flaming PC, why do you have to come here to, because why? because you HAVE NO LIFE, dont contradict yourself please

  • "i had problems running a program" that's called crashing....JFTR, us "PC users" aren't the one's designing W7, companies ALWAYS copy one another.

  • lol i have the same laptop. I'M A PC AND WINDOWS 7 WAS MY IDEA!

  • The guy next to Kirsten need to stop looking at her! XD

Also, when will the first beta of Windows 8 be available?

  • windows 7 just got launched slow down, lol

  • I'm stuck on Vista, I think I slowed down quit enough. lol

  • oh you sure have, haha. But i think you can upgrade for 30 dollars if you are a college student i believe, dont quote me on that.

  • actually that is fact

  • lol you guys are all funny... Vista didn't get enough attention and was assumed to be "too slow"... i asked my friend the other day who NEVER used vista, about vista itself and he's like " it's slow". bs because i use it and its no faster than the windows 7 RC i tried... waste of money microsoft and big rip off of apple for making a microsoft store...

  • People say the something about the Mac until they finally use one.

  • at this point, if a macbook wasnt so much money , compared to a windows laptop, i'd Use a macbook with leopard and keep my windows vista dekstop pc because I CAN actually LIVE with it. unlike some uptight american citizens....

  • YAY! They're uploading in HD now. I guess they added HD exporting support into Windows Movie Maker! Finally! iMovie/Final Cut FTW!

  • Stop Fighting Windows 7 Was In My DNA!

  • In my opinion, the w7 taskbar is definitely one of the highlights of it.

  • Hey! Windows 7 was my idea!

  • @jordanems mac os x dock expose is copying windows 7 taskbar

  • @jordanems No it was not.

  • Dont you mean Dock instead of menu :-)

  • Look at the Windows 1.0 taskbar and take a look at how Microsoft copied itself...

Also, unlike the dock, windows minimize into the icon as opposed to Apple minimizing into the right side. Oh wait, in Snow Leopard Apple added the ability to minimize the window into the dock icon, but for some reason this feature wasn't added until after Microsoft debuted their new taskbar. So tell me, who copied Microsoft?

  • YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!!

  • Windows 7 FTW !!

  • excelent

  • XD hahaha

  • i love windows 7

  • What about my Taskbar?

  • I just upgraded windows 7 is very nice. :)
