Glow in the Dark - Black Light Party

im having a blacklight party soon

is there a specific type of black light you're supposed to use?

i used a sylvania (from k-mart) black light, that kind you can screw into a lamp, and

regular glow in the dark paint. am i using the wrong light of the wrong paint?

I bought a black light for a party, the problem is that i want the rave feel so i want the room to remain dark. However, once the blacklight is on the room is lighted. Does anyone know any alternatives, solutions, or what might the problem be?
