Whale meat is a delicacy. This is NOT for survival.
Whale meat sells for $64. per pound. So one Minke of 6 tons would make the whalers $768,000...
unless the meat is discovered to have high levels of mercury in it, then the heroes of Japan generously donate those batches to schools, to serve as lunches because they can't sell it.
The batches they do keep (and don't get SOLD) go bad in a warehouse and get dumped. Then they go out hunting for re-stock

(US) to brave high radiation levels as experts warn that the race to save the facility has already been lost. The fear that the plant is suddenly leaking more radiation into surrounding sea water at the plant has prompted this new action. The water is found to contain levels 3335 times higher than normal, almost 3 times higher than last week."
"Common methods of suicide are jumping in front of trains, leaping off high places, hanging, or overdosing on medication. Rail companies will charge the families of those who commit suicide a fee depending on the severity of disrupted traffic."
Typhoon Talas, the most damaging typhoon to hit Japan since 2004, kills at least 32 people. The word Talas is a Filipino word meaning sharpness.
3200 people were evacuated in 16 prefectures, 700 houses were flooded, 9500 houses were without power, 400 flights were cancelled leaving approximately 34,000 stranded. Talas broke Japan's rainfall record
The Sea Shepherds hit where it hurts. As we all know by now, Whales are very susceptible to toxins (just like mercury). Well, when the japanese kill a whale, the Shepherds use the legally harmless "stink bombs" to taint the meat so the whalers can't profit from it. So now they've spent the costs of fuel, salaries for their men, food & supplies, whatever licenses, and bribes... and have nothing to show for it but bankruptcy.
This, plus the court battles, will bring it all to an end eventually
@HeartGold356 The Japanese state they eat the whale after they 'study' it because they don't want the 'whale to go to waste.' There are stores who sometimes 'forget' that whaling is illegal.
Bullshit. If Sea Shepherd really wanted to stop whaling, why do they waste so much time and money crashing their own boats, uselessly throwing butter and shooting faggy, little green lasers? Why not just equip their boats with underwater acoustical devices (LRAD), follow the whalers and blast their underwater LRAD and the whales wouldn't come within 10 miles. I'll tell you why not : That would be boring "Whale Wars" TV and Paul Watson, the attention/money whore, needs drama to fleece the rubes.
@The6sicksikhs Sea Shepherd would continue with or without the filming. But I think that would be illegal, as it would count as harm to the whale (I think). Also sonar devices and such confuse whales. It makes them beach themselves
ok. first off i am not an sympathyser for whale killing. but paul watson is a terrorist. he is doing illegal acts, sinking neutral ships, hell, some people have even died... he needs to be stopped. there are better ways of accomplishing what he wants damnit. wake up idiots, everybody who are agains't terrorism and still support thius guys methods still have ALL of their work still ahead of them.......
Here's what I don't understand. In season 1 & 3 the M/V Steve Irwin Could keep up with the Nisshin Maru and even circle around them. But in season 2 the M/V Steve Irwin couldn't catch up to block the whale transfer. Did they have an engine malfunction or something. Please respond if you know the answer to why they couldn't keep up in season 2.
Anything the Sea Shepherds do is fine. They just need the publicity to bring up public awareness of what's going on all the way down there by Antarctica (things the world never sees).
Whatever a TV station will accept and broadcast. It has to be interesting so people will watch. Animal Planet is free to edit as they wish, because the footage they tape becomes THEIR property.
no one realizes that by killing ANY ANIMAL will affect our planet like the whales if there were no whales it would eventually cause the ocean to go out of balance and would work its way up the food chain to us the human race and eventually in the final moments end the way of life same with polar bears and all other animals and we will lead ourselves to our doom all because of money
"Research" is the cover story which allows them to exploit the loophole. Collecting the meat to sell is the prime goal.
Note: What kind of research has a "quota"? The japanese themselves said "The Sea Shepherds are interfering with our PROCESSING of a whale on our FACTORY ship." (not "research of a whale on their science vessel")
Japanese thinking: Issei Sagawa (born June 11, 1949) is a japanese man who in 1981 murdered and cannibalized a Dutch woman named Renée Hartevelt. After his release, he became a celebrity in Japan and made a living through their public's interest in his crime. Sagawa described himself as a "weak, ugly, and small man" and claims that he wanted to "absorb her energy". His wealthy father provided a top lawyer for him, but he was released after only two years and without a trial. wikipedia. org
The whalers threw a spear at the Sea Shepherds in an attempt to either hurt someone or puncture the inflatable and send everyone into the freezing ocean.
The Shepherds have never tried to harm any of them like that.
They were NOT defending themselves either. They were safe up in their big steel ship.
@info145 Agreed. But it is rather disappointing that the researched meat is crated and stocked in store shelves for their own profit. I know people must consume meat, but why whales? Why not certain species of tuna. Tuna swim in the ocean like clouds float in the sky. There's plenty of them to research, replenish, and respect. (Along with certain guidelines)
@SILENTKILLERX96 Whales are a divine and intelligent lifeform. Second only to man on this Earth. A lot of japanese believe there are weird "energies" in flesh that can stimulate like magic. It's why Issei Sagawa became an instant celebrity in Japan among the masses.
@info145 True whales are divine and intelligent. They're the largest mammals on the face of the Earth. If the Japanese believe in energies from beings so be it. I don't criticize them for their beliefs. If people want to agree with what Issei Sagawa did, that's alright. ( Although I can't condone cannibalism. ) By the way thanks for that tip on Issei Sagawa. I never knew that.
@chrissy111222333 yes that is true, but but there are many different types of the species of tuna. Most of which are held in safe captivity so the species can continue to live on.
In a letter to Japan, published in the NY Times, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, 21 scientists declared: "Japan's whale research program fails to meet minimum standards for credible science. Also, their whaling is not designed to answer questions relevant to the management of Whales & Japan refuses to make the information it collects available for independent review & its research program lacks a testable hypothesis and performance indicators needed for acceptable scientific standards."
why is it that nordic white people are permitted to do whaling yet the japanese are not allowed??if ur not eating it, dont stop other people from eating it.
The whale poachers are hunting in the Whales' home. The Sanctuary. If the whalers really were doing the mass killing for science, they'd be conducting this "research" abroad, and not strictly in the sanctuary year after year! That'd be the only way to get a complete picture when using science to find a clear answer to whichever questions you'd be trying to investigate.
What comes around goes around with the US as well, starting with the hurricanes and oil spilled.
Meat is meat, not that I don't care about any animals but I don't see a problem even if whales do go extinct beside that the whale lovers will just be crying.
@ChueHang17 You're in idiot. If whales die, lots of other things will die too. I don't see a problem even if you go extinct, so go die. Do everyone a favor and rot you chinky fuck.
@xbeast133 Here's come the cry baby, and no, you're the idiot. Whales are among some of the animals that are at the top of the food chains, so therefore if they're gone, there won't be a huge impact. I don't see a problem either even if you go extinct so you might as well die too that way there won't be anymore retards from your bloods.
Do everyone a favor and learn to speak in a more manners way if you try to prove someone wrong, because in the end you'll make yourself looks like an idiot.
@ChueHang17 The REAL impact would be the over population of the prey species. And the fact that our grand children won't be able to enjoy the beauty of them like we have because honestly, we take advantage of it.
@xbeast133 Well, the way I see it is that whenever a specie extinct, usually there will always be another one to fill in the spot, evolution have always been that way for the past centuries. I do agree with you that overpopulate can be an issue too, if that's the case there will be more foods available for humans but can still be a problems in a way. Whales are very intelligent animal, but not everything is perfect so sometime we just can't prevent everything. Thanks for being civil this time.
@ChueHang17 You see, whales don't eat big things that humans do. They eat a tiny shrimp like creature called a Krill, which is inedible to humans. They eat them by the thousands in order to get enough to support their MASSIVE body. If there weren't whales, the krill would over populate, eating up all the algae that the small fish eat. Then the smaller fish would starve and die off. Then the larger predatory fish that WE eat would starve because there would be no food for them. Get it now?
@xbeast133 I'm well aware of the krill, I understand that most whales eat krill, but they are not the only one that does, sharks, seals, penguins, squids and fishes eat krill too. Due to the whales massive body, they're able to eat more krill than any other animals which helps a lot, but like I said earlier, as specie evolve there will always be one to fill in the vacant spot if available, so I wouldn't be surprise to see another species of gigantic fish pop up and take over the whales spot.
I believe killing whales is bad, even though I'm japanese. But Canada kills thousands of seals a year, and the US butchers chickens and cows. Dont just pick on the japanese. Look at other countries, they slaughter animals too. May whales R.I.P.

@607777777 Here's another spiritual message from Heaven
607777777, YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO MY HOLLINESS. THE ONLY WAY YOU SHALL BE FORGIVEN IS TO GO TO JAPAN AND SPEND 10000 YEN ON WHALE MEAT TO SUPPORT THE WHALING INDUSTORY.
If they are only allowed to kill a "certain number of whales" they I really don't see what the big problem is. I'm sure the law prevents any sort of huge threat to the whale populations and food web. Is the whole argument here over it being ethical to kill whales or what?
Lol, its all ok for us to criticise Japanese about killing whales, but I thought we ate cows? Chickens? Pig? I guess humans aren't smart enough to come up with a new source of protein. Lets just kill animals for theirs. I'm as guilty as anyone too. -_-

There are 83 kinds of whales.
The Minke whale which Japan gets does not have the danger of extinction. Rather, it increases too much.
It is the same as cow and pig.
The United States has permitted the Inuit the whale of extinct species.
I was not interested in whaling and a dolphin fishery before.
However, whites' lie and ethnic discrimination were witnessed by web or TV, and Japan was absolutely sure that whaling should be continued.

This, plus the court battles, will bring it all to an end eventually
info145 6 months ago
If this was "Scientific Research" then won't it be illegal to whale meat in consumer markets?

The6sicksikhs 6 months ago
@The6sicksikhs Sea Shepherd would continue with or without the filming. But I think that would be illegal, as it would count as harm to the whale (I think). Also sonar devices and such confuse whales. It makes them beach themselves

Anything the Sea Shepherds do is fine. They just need the publicity to bring up public awareness of what's going on all the way down there by Antarctica (things the world never sees).
Whatever a TV station will accept and broadcast. It has to be interesting so people will watch. Animal Planet is free to edit as they wish, because the footage they tape becomes THEIR property.
info145 6 months ago
no one realizes that by killing ANY ANIMAL will affect our planet like the whales if there were no whales it would eventually cause the ocean to go out of balance and would work its way up the food chain to us the human race and eventually in the final moments end the way of life same with polar bears and all other animals and we will lead ourselves to our doom all because of money

His wealthy father provided a top lawyer for him, but he was released after only two years and without a trial. wikipedia. org

Episode: "BATTLE STATIONS"
The whalers threw a spear at the Sea Shepherds in an attempt to either hurt someone or puncture the inflatable and send everyone into the freezing ocean.
The Shepherds have never tried to harm any of them like that.
They were NOT defending themselves either. They were safe up in their big steel ship.

Killing innocent animals for " research" is OK. But perform it on another, more abundant species. Other than whales.
SILENTKILLERX96 7 months ago
@SILENTKILLERX96
OK, so people will not ever stop eating animals, but there are guidelines that should be followed:
1) Don't kill animals whose subsistence is in question.
2) Kill quickly and humanely.
3) Replenish.
4) Respect an animal's sanctuary!
The poachers ignore all of these basic common sense points of logic and human decency
info145 7 months ago
@info145 Agreed. But it is rather disappointing that the researched meat is crated and stocked in store shelves for their own profit. I know people must consume meat, but why whales? Why not certain species of tuna. Tuna swim in the ocean like clouds float in the sky. There's plenty of them to research, replenish, and respect. (Along with certain guidelines)
SILENTKILLERX96 7 months ago
@SILENTKILLERX96 Whales are a divine and intelligent lifeform. Second only to man on this Earth. A lot of japanese believe there are weird "energies" in flesh that can stimulate like magic. It's why Issei Sagawa became an instant celebrity in Japan among the masses.
info145 7 months ago
@info145 True whales are divine and intelligent. They're the largest mammals on the face of the Earth. If the Japanese believe in energies from beings so be it. I don't criticize them for their beliefs. If people want to agree with what Issei Sagawa did, that's alright. ( Although I can't condone cannibalism. ) By the way thanks for that tip on Issei Sagawa. I never knew that.
SILENTKILLERX96 7 months ago
@SILENTKILLERX96 I would like to point out that tuna are very over fished. One of the most over fished species in the world i believe
chrissy111222333 4 months ago
@chrissy111222333 yes that is true, but but there are many different types of the species of tuna. Most of which are held in safe captivity so the species can continue to live on.

In a letter to Japan, published in the NY Times, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, 21 scientists declared: "Japan's whale research program fails to meet minimum standards for credible science. Also, their whaling is not designed to answer questions relevant to the management of Whales & Japan refuses to make the information it collects available for independent review & its research program lacks a testable hypothesis and performance indicators needed for acceptable scientific standards."

BUT the whalers head straight to the sanctuary!!!

@ChueHang17 You're in idiot. If whales die, lots of other things will die too. I don't see a problem even if you go extinct, so go die. Do everyone a favor and rot you chinky fuck.
xbeast133 7 months ago
@xbeast133 Here's come the cry baby, and no, you're the idiot. Whales are among some of the animals that are at the top of the food chains, so therefore if they're gone, there won't be a huge impact. I don't see a problem either even if you go extinct so you might as well die too that way there won't be anymore retards from your bloods.
Do everyone a favor and learn to speak in a more manners way if you try to prove someone wrong, because in the end you'll make yourself looks like an idiot.
ChueHang17 7 months ago
@ChueHang17 The REAL impact would be the over population of the prey species. And the fact that our grand children won't be able to enjoy the beauty of them like we have because honestly, we take advantage of it.
xbeast133 7 months ago
@xbeast133 Well, the way I see it is that whenever a specie extinct, usually there will always be another one to fill in the spot, evolution have always been that way for the past centuries. I do agree with you that overpopulate can be an issue too, if that's the case there will be more foods available for humans but can still be a problems in a way. Whales are very intelligent animal, but not everything is perfect so sometime we just can't prevent everything. Thanks for being civil this time.
ChueHang17 7 months ago
@ChueHang17 You see, whales don't eat big things that humans do. They eat a tiny shrimp like creature called a Krill, which is inedible to humans. They eat them by the thousands in order to get enough to support their MASSIVE body. If there weren't whales, the krill would over populate, eating up all the algae that the small fish eat. Then the smaller fish would starve and die off. Then the larger predatory fish that WE eat would starve because there would be no food for them. Get it now?
xbeast133 7 months ago
@xbeast133 I'm well aware of the krill, I understand that most whales eat krill, but they are not the only one that does, sharks, seals, penguins, squids and fishes eat krill too. Due to the whales massive body, they're able to eat more krill than any other animals which helps a lot, but like I said earlier, as specie evolve there will always be one to fill in the vacant spot if available, so I wouldn't be surprise to see another species of gigantic fish pop up and take over the whales spot.

Unless the meat is discovered to have high levels of mercury in it, then the heroes of Japan generously donate those batches to schools to serve as lunches because they can't sell it
