Ness's PSI Fire attack in SSBM also originated from the Sumo Bro. in Super Mario World, where it would stomp causing a spark of electricity that looks a lot like Ness's fire attack and once it lands, it would cause a wall of fire to rise from the ground which is what Ness's PSI Fire does, too.

Claus and Lucas are twins(I'm sure you already knew that) so having Claus as a playable character wouldn't make sense unless you're talking about him being in his "Masked Man" form. The mechanics for the yoyo seem derived from Kirby Super Star for SNES. Kirby's yoyo ability works in a similar manner to Ness' yoyo related smash moves. Not a big surprise when you take into account that Hal created both the SSB series and the Kirby series

Also, why did they change the moves from PSI Fire, etc. to PK Fire, etc.? IMO, it's probably the way he would pronounce it, and PK is a lot shorter than PK when you think about it.

His pronunciation sounds strange because of this. Also, it's PK in Japan. I know PK stands for 'Psychokinetic', but I dunno what PSI stands for.

Because 2 out of the 3 games in the series are Japan-only. This is the only one that's not. In Japan, PSi is known as PK, so the kept it that way, as the majority of the series uses PK.

The reason why Thunder kept hitting on that one part was because Thunder has a (number of enemies)/6 chance of hitting a random target, and there were 5 when you used it. So there was a 5/6 chance.

PSI means same as PK (PsychoKinesis) , and I think it was changed to PK because it is easier to say fast than PSI, imagine Ness saying PII ES AI FLASH, takes forever.. Instead it is PII KEI FLASH, doesn't take as long..

I think it was PK in the original (Japanese) Earthbound (Mother 2), and since Ness's voice wasn't changed, it remains 'PK' in SSBM. It was changed to PSI in English translations of Earthbound (I think) for reasons unknown
