the only thing that myfs me is that many (poor poor) boat people pass through Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia etc... to end up in Australia (where they can be "free from religious zealots"). I think there are correct ways of opening up our borders through proper processing (no queue jumping). Lastly, isn't a middle eastern person arriving in Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka or whatever getting them "free" so why do they continue their journey onward to Oz?

Free Trade believe it or not can solve many problems third world countries face.The U.N should pressure third world leaders to instead adopt a more capitalist economy and property rights.....thats what is the foundation to a countries economy.

Australia is pretty lucky to have a good level of economic freedom which is what many poor countries lack

Years ago: abo activists sought to overturn the anti-discrimination act that Gough Whitlam had got through in the 70s mainly to help abos.

I requested a copy of the law. It read: 'No one group will be given something denied to another group in Australia.'

The abos were pushing (successfully) to be given huge tracts of land at the time. The law was overcome.. the land transferred..and then the abos pushed to have the law put back in place again to be 'equal' with whites again. Yay.
