This video actually helped me a lot. I have a tank but it's 10 times the size of that one my sister bought it for me as a Christmas present. I've heard that bark is better then sand is this true?
Now I want a bearded dragon..... But I hate bugs........ FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
They look so much harder to look after than i first thought :L I'm not sure if i should get one because i'm busy the majority of the day and i need a pet thats easy to look after and friendly because ive had a really unfriendly pet and hated ever second of it . this video makes it sound like you have to be so precise with them and do i have to feed them live insects becuase that would freak me out?
I am really interested in a Bearded Dragon, but I hate insects :/ can they sustain their health just on vegetables and plants, or will I have to get someone else to feed it? xD
@petrolhead229 you do have to feed them insects, but a adult beaded dragon 80% of its diet is fruits and veg, i get a little creeped out by them but i either wear gloves and feed them to my dragon or put a few in and let him hunt them. just make sure to watch them while feeding because the bugs can bite youre dragon. hope i helped :D
i have a couple questions. im not trying to abuse my animal (i havent gotten one yet, im trying to see if a bearded dragon is right for me) how long can they go with out food and just live on water? ive heard everything from a couple days to a couple weeks. also, instead of a lamp, can they have a heading pad underneath if they are in a well lit area?
@KeepinThingsIrie They don't absorb heat from underneath their bellies and it'll just burn them. I don't have a Beardie (I'm doing the same thing as you, my research! Good job!) however, I wondered if it was a good idea to put a heat pad along the wall. BDs collect heat mostly from their head so If they're cold they can just go hang out by that wall. BUT, the heat lamp is the best idea by far. As for your other question, I don't know.... I recomend "Bearded Dragon Care" from earthling1984!! Luck
@KeepinThingsIrie I wouldn't go with a heated pad. It has the potential to injure the dragon as their underbellies are sensitive to heat. Heating rocks and pads are out of the question really. Just keep parts of the tank at the temperatures you need with lower wattage basking bulbs, one end dedicated as a basking area, the other end of the tank dedicated as a cool area where the dragon can go to cool off.
@finnvoid nonono. Im sorry but i hate people who say sand is bad for dragons. IT IS NOT. people. Dont lisen to this person. Sand is fine for bearded dragons. End of story.
@Godschild9701 I do drink lake water... What kind of idiotic response was that?! Maybe lakes in your country are full of shit? Here lakes and rivers are crystal clear and it's all excellent drinking water.
if they are in your home, they might run around a bit, yes. but its fine to let them roam in ur house. and they will get much bigger than u saw at the pet store. u saw ones that were probably a week or two old. they will get anywhere from 18" to 24". they may be smaller or biggger than that, but that is the general range for there sizes.
GUYS NEVER USE CALCIUM SAND, THEY SAY IT'S DIGESTIBLE BUT IT ISNT. What calcium sand does when it's in the beardie, it will clump up and cause impaction FAST. Use some playsand from home depot and was it. That is MUCH better.
im getting one soon, wont they run away if they run around a room? i seen some in a pet shop but they were tiny compared to this one. im pretty sure it was about the size of my hand. would it get bigger or stay like that?
I personally don't use any kind of substrate for my bearded dragon. I use large pieces of slate which has been measured to fit the tank and has timber underneath for height so he is still close to the uvb and heat light. It's cheap, it looks nice, easy to clean, it keeps his nails down and there is no chance of getting impaction. We all want what is best for our pets and i believe tile or slate is a safe option for them.
@scbs98 i can kill babies because they eat it sometimes and get impaction (really bad constipation) the best thing to do for a baby (say 8 months to a year) is use paper towels or a towel, or this stuff called T-Rex desert snow, the desert snow looks nice, and it dissolves completely in their digestive track.
I'm getting my bearded dragon in two weeks. But my vivarium doesn't have many crevaces or things to climb on. It only has a basking rock, a cave and a plastic cactus. Is that ok?
@jayde Yeah if you get them young, just put them on newspaper or butchers paper for the first 6 months... or even tiles. I am sure they are around sand in the wild but they are in a small cage now and can not run around as much as they do in the wild, and can get impaction more so than in the wild. Yes, I know it is a hot topic.. but see your vet and check..I made a vid on this on my channel as well.
@DoctorWhoRocks10000 get it when its about 5-8 months old so is still quite small but has gone thorugh the growth spurt where feeding him becomes even more expensive, also to save money on food its a good idea to breed crickets or locusts, there are many videos and articles about breeding crickets and locusts on the web
i got my bearded dragon yesterday and i love him :D
im worried about my bearded dragon, he's not active at all, he hids in one spot underneath some plants which is underneath his basking light and he just sleeps there all day. Now he is not eating, i dont know what to do. Please help !
@bob474100 Take him to a vet straight away. I waited longer than a day because I didn't find a vet specialising on exotic pets. When I finally took my bearded dragon to the clinic, it was too late and he died a day later. Bearded dragons are very, very sensitive and need medical care ASAP. A day may decide between life and death. Wishing you and your dragon all the best.
@JaydeScottBooks he's fine now, he just needed to do a really big poo. Basically he was impacted and i gave him a bath and it clearded his impaction. But i had been giving him baths for like every day last week. But now he is back to normal. Thanks for the reply, honestly i really appretiat it :D
@froggieluv97 Because if the Dragon eats the sand, it has possibility to eat it and become impacted. Especially with mine, it sometimes bites at the ground (it does not mean he has any health problems). If he had sand in his tank, he'd already be impacted or dead.
Yeah, I know that but I'm just saying it wasn't the best idea to reccomend it. He should of at least of said something like; "But calcium sand can sometimes be harmful if your Dragon eats it. Then it could become impacted and possibly die."
everythings all good apart from the dial thermometer they are crap and inaccurate, calci sand is what i use, had no problems with it. its a good substrate
