  • 1st, I agree this sermon was poor for a # of reasons. But can you answer a few questions?

Do you believe that every single sermon must only be about the Gospel?

Do you have a problem with pastors teaching practical Biblical principles?

If everything in Scripture except for the Gospel is "law", then why not just cut the rest of the Bible out?

I don't understand your critique of Deut 6. Do you not teach your children about God's Word since this was an OT admonition?

What is context of Pr 6:22?

  • I enjoy PCR very much but find Rosebrough to be utterly smarmy and unwilling to answer email.

  • Good stuff, man. Thanks for posting, love listening to Fighting for the Faith.

  • I love listening to fighting for the faith. Actually, I'm listening to it right now lol

    whatthehellbook . com

  • Fighting for the faith is really good...follow it on podcast....my wife sick of listening to it though...great to see the faces, thanks.

  • I absolutely love "Fighting for the faith" It has educated me on so many things (that I thought I knew before) It is awesome!

  • i dont agree with the seeker sensitive movement, or any of the 'new' christianity waves...but im sorry to say that you are not any better then them. To sit and poke fun at peoples sermons it's absolute ridiculous, in that time I would rather pray to God to give us wisdom and reach out to the 'elect' if you want to call it like that...im sorry but i was dissapointed at the level of immaturity this 'show' has. hope you guys find better things to do during your broadcasts.SoliDeoGloria

  • @honoracademyexp I look forward to your video teaching us all how to reach your level of maturity. I'd also enjoy seeing a video from you on how to not spot critique videos without taking into consideration the entire context of the video, but I understand that the latter might be a more difficult endeavor. Take care.

  • I have added a link to this at my site. This is an awesome resource and I wish I could listen to it at work

  • You are criticizing this mans message, but are you doing right by this? By the way, I agree with the New Testament scripture quoted below: James 2: 14-26 also. " ..I will show you my faith by my works... faith without works is dead.." Please go back in read your bible or take your site off the air.., It brings a bad taste in the mouth..., Please..,

  • cynthias777 Is it possible you have been unaware of what's happening? Your favorited videos look like lots of Christian fun or silliness, which is okay, but we DO have an enemy and he HATES the CHURCH! If you're unaware of what's happening as a whole with Purpose-Driven, Seeker-Sensitive methodology and new age and other mystical practices devouring countless churches, I could almost understand your reaction. I pray that more men like Chris Rosebrough rise up to warn and inform the sheep.

  • I am aware of apostasy in the church. It's been going on since Paul warned about it in the NT days. Exactly what is "seeker-sensitive methodology"? I know what new age is.

Please understand. I don't know anything about Chris R. or the minister who was teaching on raising children. It was very boring. I wouldn't go to that church, However, if someone is going to take on the task of "warning the sheep" he better know what he is talking about or he will be in the same judgment. No offense..,

  • @cynthias777 Seeker-Sensitive methods are Hallmark ads for Jesus that are designed with the goal of "growing your church" in mind. Jesus is an offense to those who are perishing. What Jesus are the "seekers" hearing about? I urge you to go to fightingforthefaith com and scroll down to the show entitled:

"Special Edition: The Cult-Like Hostile Takeover Tactics of the Purpose-Driven Church Transitioning Seminar" This was one of Chris' most revealing shows ever. It is downright frightening.

  • Friends, I came across this video today and I would like to ask you a question: Are you preaching the gospel in what you are doing? There is a 4 fold ministry and being a Pastor is just part of that. Evangelism is another part of it. The gospel message is preached by an Evangelist. I really hope that your so called "ministry" has more to offer than simple "critiquing" pastoral messages. There are unbelievers watching you; are you preaching the gospel in this work? Food for thought...

  • James 2:14-26 (NRSV):

14 What good is it, my brothers & sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 17 [F]aith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith & I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, & I by my works will show you my faith. 19You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--& shudder....26[J]ust as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.

  • What a sermon to have to sit through. lol I think I would discreetly get up and leave and never look back.

  • Thanks for putting this up!

  • It kind of makes me uneasy in a sense that the person on the other side is not aware of this and we cannot get their opinion and thought on this matter...I don't know, just a thought! You said his job as a preacher is to preach about sin and salvation, but as a local pastor, I believe this sermons are somewhat necessary, once in a while, not the BRATZ part, but the teaching on parenting with the Bible as a reference....Just some thoughts...will wait for your thoughts..

  • Pastor,

    Can I chime in?

    I'm not a pastor, just a layman.

I understand somewhat how it must be for a Pastor to lead a flock through their struggles.

The temptation to preach "make your life better" sermons must be strong.

    Can I make a suggestion?

If your sermon comes from an idea you have, then you find supporting verses....that's backwards.

Might I suggest you preach through the whole bible and thereby equip your flock to do the right thing when these situations arise in their life?

  • Thanks rpavich for the reply, but here is the real deal, I will give you an example, I am doing a series now on the role of the husband, wife and children in a christian family and Sunday i will be speaking from Prov 22:6 about raising children as followers of Christ and giving example in their lives and upbringing...I understand that these are all fruits of salvation, and that the main concern is souls...I just don't see how it is wrong to preach on such terms...thanks again for the critique..

  • Pastor pinheirov,

I understand what you're saying...I really do. I also agree that the gospel is more than the basic salvation message...all of God's truth is important right?

Having said that, let me ask: How did Prov 22:6 come up?

    Did you:

Think of a good sermon series that you thought the flock wanted/needed to hear and then picked through and found supporting passages.

    OR

You were preaching through the word, this verse came next and so you are going to expound on it's meaning in context?

  • That's a good question rpavich, and the answer is both actually...What is the problem with a Thematic sermon as long as the context is intact? for our example in Proverbs, how is teaching on raising Children in Christ and for Christ incorrect in this particular text? And another question I have for you is, if there are people out there preaching a come to God sermon and your marriage will be restored and through that process they discover repent and salvation, what is the prob with that?

  • Pastor Pinheirov,

    What is the harm?

Well, I can think of one thing. We all have our pet subjects and areas where we are most comfortable....

Preaching through whole books at a time in order or whatever forces you to preach passages that you might not otherwise preach and so you grow, and your flock grows....

And as to your second Q: "what's the harm if someone comes to Christ from a shoddy sermon...?

Well, that's argument from pragmatism...we do what's God honoring not what works.... :)

  • By the way, this is a great conversation, I understand you and your critique, so I am not in no such way offended or feel pressured by your questions....this is great for understanding somebody else's view point and learning throught the body of Christ...

  • Pastor,

I also thank you for your Christian heart. I know it's not easy to have people who haven't walked in your shoes criticize what you've poured your life into....

thank you for that...you're an example to all here.

  • Hey rpavich, thank you so much for your kindness and understanding. I will pray about the things you said and think about it diligently. I do preach from whole books, but we mostly leave the studying of passages for our Bible classes and evangelize on Sunday through the word. I am not currently in the U.S. so some adaptation to time and other things make it a little more difficult..but I will pray..thanks again brother, may God bless u..Eph 3:16 I wish upon you!

  • Pastor,

God bless you for your example again.

I've learned a lot about Christian humility and how woefully short I fall...may God grant me more humility and less pride in situations like this.

I wish you God's blessing on your work, and may He get the glory!!

    bob

  • Pastor P,

One last thing...if you don't mind and please...please, don't feel that I'm picking on you.

    As I said...I'm no pastor, I don't have your job...only you know what it's like...not me.

    But....

have you looked closely at Prov 22:6?

What's the subject matter? Is it training up a child so that he/she will not likely depart the faith or is their another subject in the context of the passage?

That's one issue with topical preaching.

  • Let me elaborate...

A flock who knows God's word, knows what to do in the situations that arise in their life.

They are either obedient, or disobedient, basically that's it.

I know what kind of a husband I need to be...it's laid out in the word...now...whether I adhere to that is another story.

The main issue in the church today is two things:

1.) Unregenerate goats in the pews who believe themselves to be saved.

2.) People who have no hunger to study the word.

    Fix that...and all's well.

  • Lane, I do believe that most sermons are very post-modern and "water-downed" as some say and do not mention any or little of the word of God, which is our base, and as a Pastor myself, I am aware of this, but one thing concerns me in all this..and I hope you can answer me sincerely...by criticizing this sermon and even correctly criticizing it, are we doing the right thing?

  • I LOVE PIRATE CHRISTIAN RADIO. Chris has taught me so much. When I have a job, I will help support "this important radio outreach!"

Every Christian can benefit from this program!

  • i wished for this... a view of their reactions...

    epic and congrats Lane

  • Thanks for the information on Pirate Christian Radio... I checked it out and I was liking what I was hearing... God Bless.

  • Ahh such a pointless sermon, people are going to hell and he's preaching about BRATZ ! AHHHHHH

  • Wow this is Eisegesis 101!!!

  • Thanks Lane for putting this one out! I really love the work Chris is doing over there.
