The punch bowl at is hillarious I love it also the punk in pie is funny as hell. I am so glad you put these episodes on YouTube they are totally cool one of my favorite childhood cartoon shows to watch
i wish BJ was just a tad more handsome tho. i adore his personality but if he had staight teeth and the ends of his fingers WERENT red....he might be a bit more attractive :PP
i would have loved for Beej to be the hero, it would have been awesome. and i hate the fact that he was only in it for about 15 minutes that sucks, man stupid hollwwood and them ruining everything
The SOLE reason Lydia disliked BJ in the film was only because the higher-ups that Burton sold his script to told him that BJ had to be the villain, even though Burton WANTED BJ to be the hero. So really, this cartoon is closer to Burton's ORIGINAL idea. And since BJ is HIS creation, I stick with what the creator wants.
yes, i totally agree with you! I just LOVE BJ, and I didn't like the fact that he was "the bad guy" in the movie! i'm not surprised to hear that Burton wanted BJ to be the hero, it would've been MUCH MUCH better! (and a lot more original!)
actually, the very original script has BJ as a demon with wings who terrorizes the Deetz's and the Maitlands. Lydia has a little sister who was the real main character. she gets mauled to death by BJ as a squirrel and Lydia gets raped by him instead of married.
alix: Yes, it was a dark horror film initially, but even Burton probably realized that he wouldn't get as near the audience that he'd get were he to tame the film down. And really, Burton DID want BJ to be the hero of the film--and no doubt that were a sequel made, it would end up as Burton wished--but higher ups in Hollywood made him change the script, both the bad parts and the good parts.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The original script was much more darker and violent- and that included beetlejuice. Orignally he was supposed to murder the whole family- except lydia, who he wanted to rape. So, somehow, I dont see how he would've come out as the good guy. Burton only directed it, he didn't write the script, or the rewrite. He also didn't direct the nightmare before christmas, that he wrote. People dont know shit about shit.
"and most likely would only hate him after he tried to get her to marry him"
And yet, she lets him make lewd jokes towards her, lets him have a shrine dedicated to her in his head, lets him stop her from getting with Billy The Crud and Prince Vince, cannot stand to be seperated from him, and probably would--if she could--marry him now, considering how accepting of him she's become (nevermind that the Priest pronounced them man and wife in the film before the Sandworm came, anyway).
As Lydia said, "I myself am strange and unusual", whilst Otho said something akin to the fact that "I know about as much about the supernatural as I do about interior design".
You say I shouldn't link the film and cartoon too much when Burton himself created and produced both and willingly made it so the first episode--Critter Sitters--took place one year after the movie?
*sighs* it's true that Burton produced both, BUT the cartoon is only loosely based on the movie, it uses Beetlejuice, Lydia, and her parents, but not much else, the dead couple from the movie are nowhere to be found, and Lydia and Beetlejuice are best friends, despite the fact that she did not like BJ at all in the movie, and most likely would only hate him after he tried to get her to marry him.
the series starts one year into their friendship, but never tells how they met in this continuity
fury1031: "the dead couple from the movie are nowhere to be found"
So? The movie is called Beetlejuice, because BJ was THE star (all that stuff with The Maitlands was pretty much filler). As well, Adam and Barbra were only included because of the original screenplay and because the higher-ups told Burton to include them.
emerald/karmos/xohottie: They weren't. In fact, Burton's original concept for the movie was to have BJ as a hero, hence the concept used here, but unfortunately, the hire ups in Hollywood that he pitched his script to made him change things in the film, thereby introducing the Maitlands.
And karmos, anybody can see the dead if they're willing. Remember the handbook did say that "The Living usually WON'T see The Dead", but Lydia, Otho, and apparently, Bertha & Prudence can see the ghosts.
The look BJ gave Lyds at 5.14 is so cute. He must be in love with her! I love Beetlejuice! My fave characters are Beetlejuice,Jacques, the Monster across the street,Doomy and Lydia.
I think it's like a different universe kinda. The cartoon is different, like for one Beetlejuice and Lydia are best friends. I guess they decided to change the setting to go with it?
Pyramid: No. The town was called Peaceful Pines, but the specific place in Peaceful Pines where the Maitlands live was labeled as Winter River by some.
When the man answers the door for the trick or treaters (and the monster), does anyone think the second kid looks a lot like Shock (from Nightmare before Christmas)?

I do believe the punk-in-pie is the first animated depiction of a "chav" on this side of the pond. They're sort of Britan's answer to rednecks.
