  • If that's a broad diet Kate must have just been eating raw chicken before.

  • If you're veggie and approaching 30 make sure you get lots of sun without blocking UVB. This is to prevent vit D deficiency and osteoporosis. The only dietary vit D is in oily fish in amounts sufficient to prevent shortage. If unable to get sunshine, take Vit D3 supplements. This is something I've learnt too late, having avoided the sun and not ate fish for 33 years. Now Vit D deficient!A veggie diet IS healthy IF you can get lots of sun.

  • :D Fawlty Towers :D

  • Sweet Kate, you are my chocolate!

  • This is perhaps my most favourite video on youtube. What a gem! Big lovely hugs, Bother x

  • She has a very soft voice when speaking, so different from the strong power in her singing voice

  • i dont y people think being a vegetarian means u can only veggies and and salads. its not that big a deal to be veggetarian.just cuz the the word has veggie in it it doesnt mean that u can eat only veggies.

  • she signed the letter! IIIIII YAAA BABOOOSHKA YAYAAAA!

  • She speaks so softly, but she sings with such great power. Kate Bush is one of those people that shall be revered for centuries.

Kate Bush, Beethoven, Mozart, Ronnie Jame Dio, John Lennon, Quincy Jones, Iron Maiden, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Gary Numan... Basically REAL musicians

  • I LOVE her!!!!

  • what are the odds of having such a beautiful face and speaking voice ......id rather watch her talk about lettuce than see lady gaga strut around in suspenders!

  • Mixed vegetables in Marmite.... Kate, I'll crawl a mile over broken glass to hear you sing, but I won't be staying for lunch.

  • @ketmaniac Lol, my thoughts too, she's soo sweet and lovely, really funny x

  • i know she doesn't do many interviews these days, but does anyone know if she's still a vegetarian?

  • she can nibble on my pork sword, anytime!

  • LOL - is there enough for me to have a nibble aswell.

  • Allegedly she now runs a set of burger chains in Jersey called "BBK" (Bush's Burger Kitchens).

  • She eats fish occasionally, but she doesn't eat meat.

  • fish is also meat

  • Good old Kate I remember seeing her 28 years ago in Lewisham high street, makes me feel old watching this, vegetarians are the best!

  • They sure are;-)

  • I like Delia Smith. Her and Kate Bush fit well together. You can just imagine them around a Christmas dinner table having a sherry.

  • Nice one Kate! Everyone knows you don't need meat today, but it must have been weird to folks back then! and before all you meat eaters start, I ate meat for 20 years, so don't try to tell me which diet tastes better.

  • I turned a veggie in 1983 and a vegan in 2000... and I could not eat meat ever again... I'd sooner die...

Cool to know Kate Bush is not just a very talented person but also a kind and intelligent one.

  • The young Kate is fine!

But seriously... a meal without meat? It's like sex without friction... surely?

  • ''Next week Loft Insulation with David Bowie.'

  • It's true, David gets so annoyed with wasting energy. I once was at his front door and he said "For heavens sake come in, I don't want to heat the street."

  • He's an absolute nightmare to shop with. Plastic bags are a big no no. Reusables only. I love the guy, but I have better things to do with my time than be lectured to on the merits of re-recyclable packaging.

  • Quick someone invent a time machine.I want to go back to that garden and de-flower those lovely English roses.Even if their breath does smell of garlic! Let's be 'avin you!

  • hahaha - omg -I remember that episode of Fawlty Towers - the Waldorf Salad- hillarious - I am going to go watch it now:) lol

  • There's a lot in vegetables....haha!

  • haha, i just came across this randomly, this is so cute

  • Geez louise. do the techincalities really matter? every vegitarian i know eats fish and dairy products and they still consider themselves vegitarians. have you ever really heard someone say "yah well were all lacto-ovo-vegitarians" or "sure, i'm a pescatarian(or however the hell you spell it)"

  • Hrm.. We obviously mingle in very different vegetarian circles. I'd say -every- vegetarian I know does not eat fish. And then there are still many others who don't claim to be vegetarians because they do occasionally eat seafood.

  • @vivlingdarling Well people who eat fish shouldn't say that they are vegetarian! Diary products are irrelevant as being vegetarian only means you exclude things that come from dead animals. I eat fish but I never use the v word! I just say "I don't meat apart from fish" - I don't use any technical language!

  • I'm a vegetarian as well, since 2005. I hope the yogurt didn't have gelatin in it... most yogurts do today... frozen yogurts don't have gelatin... at least the ones I've encountered. I wonder if Kate is still a vegetarian?... Hmmm...

  • That sounds strange. Why should they have gelatin in yoghurts? As far as I know, no yoghurts in Norway have gelatin in them.

  • Well, here in the States most yogurts do... well, the ones at the stores. They list the ingredients and there you find it there, heh. Usually frozen yogurts don't have gelatin... at least from what I read from the ingredients on some that you buy at the store. Marshmallows also contain gelatin, which sucks because I liked eating them, heh. The marshmallow in the jar doesn't contain gelatin though... the ones here, heh. I wish they would not put gelatin in foods.

  • I have searched Wikipedia and it seems yoghurts with gelatin is an American phenomenon. So it's unlikely the yoghurt in this clip had any gelatin in it.

  • Yeah, somethings in the States seem to be bastardized, hehe... well, food speaking... probably other things too, heh. It is tough to find gelatin free yogurts here... I probably would have to pay extra money for those organic yogurts. Oh well, at least I still have the frozen yogurts, heh.

  • I love her expressions: 'I'm not into this';

    'It's the real stuff.'

She's a real, raw person, who just cannot do the media bulls**t unless its on her terms.

Stay in the studio KT, don't come out, it's not safe anymore!

  • Cor! Kate looks young there.

  • My goodness, that presenter is awful. It's hard enough to be a vegetarian today, I can't imagine how it was in 1980. God bless Kate.

  • i would love to eat Kate's cous cous.

  • the only bush I trust is Kate

  • Right on, Kate. That's one more reason to love you.

  • Kate is so lovely and cute.

She seems to be an honestly polite character.

The food looks tasty by the way.

  • Kate Bush is so awesome ^^

  • delia smith should choke on a budgie!

  • I like it when Kate says "it's quite nice by itself", and the interviewer just says "hmmm...", rather than trying some!

  • She's like a female Nigel Tufnell

  • Ha ha, very true!

  • god her voice is so like clouds!! i heart her.

i kinda wish they had other foods because everyone seems to think we veggies eat nothing but salads.

  • @desirio81 We probably did eat nothing but salads in those days - veggie cookery has really advanced in Britain since then thankfully!

  • @desirio81 I think the best way for a meat eater to understand our diets is to tell them that the average vegetarian, with no food-related allergies can eat any defined foods apart from meat.

  • Kate is right about nuts... slivered almonds taste great after being sauteed with broccoli and some mushrooms. Soooo tasty.

  • Why are you disappointed?

  • i am also disappointed.

  • Kate is vegetarian but that's not so important. The most important is that she's an amazing singer.

  • i love this.. Kate is so soothing

  • I am not a veggie but i do think that we do not need to eat as much meat as we do. Years ago meat would have been something special to have and people would have had far more veggies and a little meat on the side.

We are so picky to these days so much of the animal goes to waste, people just want to eat the chicken breast for example. I think if animals are going to be killed for us to eat we shouldn't waste so much and stop being so picky about eating the liver etc.

  • i was a vegan for about 3 years...didn't last i was five back then so i needed meat i still like veggies tho probably more than meat

  • she has such a lovely gentle voice

    shes so pretty

    i love veg too

    much better then meat

  • i'd pay $1000 a day to have her come over daily for 15 minutes and read a bedtime story to me. her speaking voice is amazing..

  • I'm veggie, too.

When I found out, that Kate is a vegetarian, I was like "yeah!!! somebody else I love is fighting for the same thing!"

    It's such a nice feeling.

  • It's funny to see this now how simple food was back then. Vegetables cooked in their own juices. Mmm yum!

  • what are you on about, what sort of insanely contrived food are you eating? I doubt vegetarian food has changed much!

  • Next week Delia shows Kate how she composes her songs, and brings in some she recorded earlier.

  • i think i would do anything that delicate little voice told me to!........melt..........no,not delia!

  • GOD I love brown rice! and Kate Bush! This video is pure heaven

  • Eh?

  • mmm kate bush

  • "Can't believe people have them out of tins!"

HA! If only Kate knew Delia would, in years to come, would write and present How to Cheat at Cooking!

  • Kate Bush and Delia Smith! Sounds quite fun really.

  • haha yeah the price of meat and fish has gone up, lol, this food looks soo boring and bland now though, shaw it was nice at the time, kate bush seems so sweet and nice.

  • I'm seriously considering becoming a vegetarian. Not for religious or ethical reasons; it's a fiscal issue. Have you seen the price of meat and fish in Tesco's lately? As Kate would say, wow, wow, wow, unbelievable.

  • Hey. I became a vegetarian after watching this video and it is brilliant. You are eating a healthy diet (just as long as you still get your protein) and I have also (as Kate says) begun liking vegetables more. It's great. I would definitely reccommend it. And also, I have saved a lot of money.

  • I've been a vegetarian for 31 yrs,since I was 10+my dad was a butcher

  • "Were all alone, on the stage tonight. Were all alone -on the stage.... "

That has to be one of my all-time favourite Kate Bush Tracks. Wish I had an MP3 version.

  • Ahh those were the days when being vegetarian meant eating "vegetables cooked in there own juices," and yohgurt with seeds and brown rice, but kate is so sweet in this, bless her!!!!!

  • If Wuthering Heights was a dish it would be a spring lamb cutlet.

  • ha ha ha ,. if only you were given the same treatment as that lamb you know nothing about, how your mother felt .

To go through such hell ...

Because of your jealousy, hate, fear, lonliness,ENVY,greed ,utter self interestedness -obviously you cannot really feel for anything else but your self and love cannot abide in a brain so .Which it seems is Mans state of disintegration. He doesnt live, afraid of his own shadow and death he will never inquire into bound as he is in superstition.

  • That little essay needs a bit of work before it would be fit for Pseud's Corner.

  • Bless Kate!

  • kate is such a sweetheart. She manages to combine being really nice with also being cool and intelligent. There is nobody else around who compares with her!

  • That food looks really good! I'm not a vegetarian myself, but I have considered it.

  • you really should consider it, in fact when i learned that kate bush was vegetarian it was the prime factor that i stopped eating meat. kate is such a sensitive person and it really struck me that she was intuned to the feelings of animals.

she is so inspirational, so sensitive and so kind.

  • Bad news Kate eats Fish now!

  • She's seen a modicum of reason obviously! Marmite as a gravy substitute? Vomit. Seriously. What's more boring than vegetarianism? Long division?

  • Whats more boring than people that put so much emphasis on food.Look how powerful a horse is and he barely eat anything else but grains /grass.Man has no compassion and has never loved. He is all consumed by "thought" which contaminates him and he has no relationship with nature.[only to dominate which isnt relationship]."Thou shalt not kill" means nothing to anybody ,contradictary christians ,hindus ,muslims etc.Man is fast disintegrating and has never lived or loved, and is un aware of it.

  • Wow... That's some serious existential reflection buddy.

  • tO percieve the truth ,facts..?Not imagined,invented,.nobodies opinion ..just actual facts.Actualality,is sanity,no?

Man has devided himself and lives in these devisions ,fragmented ,broken up.And so never comes upon that sacred space ,silent immeasurable beauty,.without time/thought,Totally harmonious.

Fragmentations and devisions one will never know wholeness.

Proper diet included in a healthy sane person that lives without any conflict in himself what so ever, will be free of selfishness

  • I agree, but I'm off to Butlins next week and quite looking forward to it.

  • You agree but you are off to butlins ?Meaning that you dont really care and have never really given it any thought at all.Thats fine carry on .You agree to go on living this degenerative way that society has so fixed , made static.Wars ,famine, greed ,hate ,utter selfishness.Devisions,-nationalistic,religious,economic...fight fight fight...pleasure ,pain, great inward loneliness, fear, isolation. All this is the lot of man all over the world and in ourselves....surely this has to change?

  • you can't change the world or people around you with arrogant and self-righteous statements like the one's your making. Your holier-than-thou sentiments are in fact contributing to the continuance of the negative cycle that you claim to loathe.

  • if you say so ,what ever you say.

  • ....i wasnt being negative or trying to change anyone, merely pointing out fact which is true for all.Man surely has to change?Where there is fear there can be no love .Anger ,hate ,self centred activity can be changed radically ,fundamentally or else we are doomed ,,fact, sorry.

  • I hear you, but I think I know where glamfoxbuster is coming from. I'm off to Costa de la Luz in about 3 weeks - can't wait. BTW, I don't like cruelty to meat either.

  • how do you know?

  • How do i know what?

  • oops, i posted the question in the wrong part. i meant to address the person who posted about kate eating fish now.

  • If you go to the FAQ section on Gaffaweb and click the section called "Kate Bush- her career and Kate as a human being", you can see for yourself that Kate eats fish now. She actually started eating fish in the late 1980s.

  • Kate vegetarian? The meat of fish is still derived by painful killing and horrendous suffering of other living things.- An intelligent sensitive, awake humanbeing need not be a part of that ,since all the nutrition derived from fish can be had through many many other means.Truth is,- Mans gluttony and lack of understanding the world and himself, making food a way of pleasure ,which is ok ,but as a means of excape from himself he ignorantly is disintegrating and taking the planet with him.

  • Humans lack understanding of the world? Any nature documentary will show you that survival depends killing and eating something else. We are all either the food or the feaster.

  • historically yeah but you could say we've evolved past that, as we don't need to eat them. just like we don't burn witches anymore ;-)

  • Officially, eating fish is still considered to be vegetarian... as well as drinking milk and eating eggs. There are prefixes to them to Lacto (milk), ovo (eggs), and pesco (fish). I myself am a lacto-ovo-vegetarian. So, Kate in 1980s may have been a Lacto-ovo-pesco-vegetarian, heh... or any variation. I doubt I could go vegan though... I can't watch what I eat all the time... especially at restaurants when ingredients are hidden.

  • No, if you eat fish you are not a vegetarian. If you eat fish you are a pescatarian. I have checked many sources and all of them say that if you eat fish you are not a vegetarian.

Since I wrote that comment I have become a vegetarian myself. I still use eggs, milk and dairy products so that makes me a lacto-ovo-vegetarian as well.

  • Ah, well... it's semantics. I didn't know that they were called "pescatarians". I learned the term "pesco-vegetarian" from my nutrition class. I recently read that "pesco" is more of an emphasis that pescatarians eat vegetables. Pesco is considered controversial and is less used. There's a Wikipedia article about it too in which is discusses the usage of the word. Nevertheless, I do agree with you... I don't consider eating fish apart of vegetarianism. I will henceforth separate the two.

  • Correction: There's a Wikipedia article about it too, in which, the semantics are discussed. That's better, heh. Anyway, that's not all I wanted to say. I wanted to say thank you for the videos you post and the lyrics! I often find myself singing along to the videos, heh. Anyway, keep up the good work! :0D

  • Thank you! I will try to do my best.

  • Symphony is right as usual. If you eat fish you are most certainly NOT a vegetarian.

  • Yeah, it was all about semantics, in this case. I do agree with Symphony though. That was the first time I've ever known of the term "pescatarian". The reason why I didn't know about it was it wasn't really used... at least in my nutrition class... and according to that wikipedia article as well. Nevertheless, I'm glad I learned a new term and I will use it, heh.

  • Fish is a meat...eating meat makes you a meat eater. Not a vegetarian. You could be "mostly vegetarian" if you only occasionally eat it...but the dictionary definition says: Noun: A person who does not eat meat or fish. Adjective: Excluding meat and fish

Why do fish eaters want to call themselves vegetarians? It doesn't make any sense.

  • @AquaStar0 Yes people who eat fish are not vegetarians!

  • Delia Smith doesn't know how to cook rice?

  • Of course she does. I guess she just wanted to know how Kate does it.

  • I bed to differ. She even says it looks like it tastes of nuts. I think Delia's out of her depth.

  • drummer78 what the hell are you boring us with? 'somewhat traditional in places' if a vegetarian meal with bean sprouts and all the rest is your idea of 'traditional' England you're quite simply an idiot. 'Once a big Anglophile...' what a fucking cheek!

  • I find it really hard to match this woman as herself to her as the performer... does that make sense? she seems so different!

  • i want to have dinner with nigella lawson and kate bush.that would be a dream .

  • ...you can even cook them in marmite

  • She's natural in eating too

  • I thought Kate Bush would be posher than she sounds. I dont know why.

  • All of that looks yummy. I love Kate Bush too. LMAO!

  • this video is unque and interesting.

  • i couldnt see kate having wind!

  • i think its just that 25-30 years ago people of this country were generally much sweeter ,calmer and more humble , less expecting and more grateful for the things that became available. Its not just kate that was considerate like this.

  • These days it seems as if Britain is too Euro-centric and without its old soul. I am sure I am being overly romantic for something that may never truly have been but I preferred it before its post-Diana "Oprahphication".

  • Whoops, that was a reply to davestany's comment.

  • The values have changed, there seems a lot more emphasis on gratification of the me ,and the more.Religious contemplation ,not in the formal doctrine dogmatic sense, which isnt really religion, has been pushed away .Also we are intensifying the rate race ten fold!

  • Sad, there was so much that was unique and truly wonderful about the country. This is not to somewhow paper over the true problems that existed even back then. Still, the place has lost its appeal to me and I was once a big Anglophile. I'm glad I visited back in 1991 when it was still somewhat traditional in places.

  • some of these look pretty yummy -- especially considering that vegetarian cuisine was not quite so broad back then. i wonder if kate has since become vegan.

  • I LOVE KATE but that's the most randomly blandest food EVER

  • That food looks bland as hell, but it's made me fancy some yoghurt and honey, oh, and some waldorfs.

  • "I thought to myself, 'hmm, i'm not into this.'"

I love her so so so much.

  • You moron...there is a big difference. If one wants to smoke they choose to harm theirself...if you eat animals you choose to kill other animals.

  • There is a lot in vegetables!. Kate is right as always.

  • haha... "i really think there's a lot in vegetables."

  • Tomato is not a vegetable:-D

  • it is.

  • kate mentions "faulty towers" show, about the waldorf salad.

  • something up with your stew if the meat is raw, kate.

  • Gawd bless you Kate. Mind you I love a rump steak.

  • If she says "Go and eat your vegetables, you sick bastard!" , you go and eat´em, because Kate Bush told you so.

  • lol

  • I'd eat the Waldorf Salad but the rest of this food looks disgusting! Put some fried mushrooms, peas and chopped onions into your brown rice at least!!! I can't believe this is from 1980 - it looks more like 1970. Adding orange segments to a salad is just asking for heartburn.

  • "you can even cook it in marmite."

    WTF!?!?!?

  • you can I've tried it, tastes nice

  • once again kate is a source of inspiration for many people...

  • She prolly smells pure like roses or starbursts!!!!! yummy kate!

  • I didn't know she was a vegetarian! But that food looks delicious! I would certainly eat that!

  • I want to picnic with Kate and Delia in an English country garden.

I wonder do she make any home brew ?

  • Gee, I feel like a Big Mac right now.

  • i would love to eat Kate's cous cous.

  • LOLZ! high 5!!

  • I love Kate but that food looks very un-appetising.

  • I am a little confused that Delia Smith -- a professional (?) chef etc -- is asking Kate about what the different foods are, and asking her how she does them -- surely she should be telling Kate what to do?! Just wondering...

  • I can see where you're coming from, but Kate is a guest on this episode, and if Delia explained everything, Kate wouldn't be able to get a word in. Also, since it's Delia's show it would get kinda boring if she was always the one talking, you know?

  • I vegetarian too Kate! Kateistheoneinmylife was my channel but now I've a new! I can never imagine me to eat meat, I love you Kate!

  • Kate, I've loved you for years, and am I vegan.I always thought you might have been one, because you gave off "that aura" that people who don't chomp down on animals.I love you,Kate, and would trade a good time of my life to be your cottage-dwelling gourmet veggie cook!

  • Awesome XD

  • See, this is why I never made her my bride. Incompatible diets.

  • interesting;)

    thanx for posting!

  • I read that too :)

And I eat fish too :)

    Kate, you rock!

  • Unfortunately I read on one Kate dedicated website that she eats fish now.

  • I'm a vegetarian too, and I love Kate!!!
