  • sounds like a one-man band who desperately wants to sack the singer and two thirds of the musos...hehehehehhehee

  • This is Wire if they were tripping insane halls.

  • wicked tune!!5 stars

  • number 3 in the worst records ever made on the kenny everett radio show.AWSOME

  • LISTVERSE!

  • That`s some early psychobilly

  • Hey, it's Nickelback!

  • 0:45 "When I go to the show"

  • dis soundz liek sum1 beeen rapped in da ass wit a babby= gitar

  • Not heard this in 20yrs and i still know all the words

  • This puts Free Jazz AND Punk rock to shame

  • i scared the crap out of me. i wasnt expecting.. you know, an exorcism

  • Well, it's better than Rebecca Black.

  • A "Desert Island" selection for me. First heard this long ago in high school. Me & my record-collecting buddy played this over & over and howled our fool heads off.

  • This is a long way from being the worst record ever. What the guy may lack in talent, he more than makes up for with enthusiasm. I'll take this over any of the garbage that's been excreted, sorry, released over the last ten years.

  • The electric phonograph machine looks reminiscent of the 60's too :D :p

  • beats justin bieber

  • I think I understand why the Cowboy is freaking out on this song--he's illustrating how one would feel and react if they were suddenly paralyzed.

  • Probably on both Salvador Dali's and Frank Zappa's playlists. I especially like the drum solo [or the part where he kicks the drummer down the stairs.]

  • Man that solo brought tears to my eyes :')

  • Punk Rock before it was called Punk rock -

  • I came here to check this out because I just read a book about Record Stores and one of the stores mentioned they used this to "clear 'em out" when it was closing time. I think I see why. :P

  • This is like Bob Dylan on ecstasy covering System of a Down.

  • lolz

  • If its the worst record ever, you should give it to me. Punxxx

  • the drummer is T-Bone Burnette

  • the drummer is T-Bone Burnette

  • at 1:26, this is possibly the greatest single moment in the history of artistic endeavour by the entirity of mankine.

  • David Bowie created Ziggy Stardust using his name when given a bunch of his singles. They were both stablemates for Mercury in the USA. SHIT! I sort of feel sad that Ziggy wasn't a real person and the Starman ain't gonna come down.

  • Soooooooo awesome!! I laugh so hard every time I listen to this

  • This will be played at my funeral.

  • I can't believe Puff Daddy hasn't sampled this yet.

  • Up-lord thanks.

  • The Ledge is one bad-ass dude, that is for sure!!

  • @rocknrollroy2007 'The Ledge!' Bwaah ha ha ha! Well wicked title for him! It is 1969 and this champ is inventing punk core thrash country nearly a decade before a Scouser was pulling gurneys, spiking hair and inserting safety pins in their ears. I heard that 'The Ledge' was a one man band, had a drum kit set up on his back and a "Loco Diablo" twinkle in his eyes.

  • sweet sound! wooohoooo!!!!

  • This song is unbelievably awesome. This guy going ape-shit and winging a song beats most any other music hands down.

  • first heard this about 15 years agoish,, still as good, cool as fuck.

  • It sounds like some drunk cowboy got a hold of a recording studio and started banging on pots and pans.

  • That. Was. Terrible.

  • a great song, although i much prefer cliff richard congratulations.......NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is definatley not the worst song I have ever heard, the bugle solo is pretty damn good !

  • This sounds like the soundtrack to a hillbilly gang bang.

  • When he introduces the song sometimes he said, "Howdy folks, this is the Legendary Stardust Cowboy speakin for bugles, good old stardust bugles." Does he mean those funky corn chip things?

  • Wooooooooooooooooo Hoo!

  • WORST RECORD EVER MY ASS!!!! This is one of the best songs ever! I LOVE IT!!!!

  • this is so fucking punk.

  • my ears are bleeding

heard Bowie mention him and had to hear how "cacophonous" it was, the answer? very!

see kids this is what drugs does :D

  • And this, my friends, is why Robert Zimmerman only tried speedballs once.

  • I still think this is hilarious. Who cares if people don't get it.

  • I got this tabbed out if anyone's interested. :P

  • BBBOOO!!! kidding

  • Definitely the BEST song ever recorded.

  • David Bowie said that Stardust Cowboy inspired him. After that came Ziggy Stardust.

  • Can someone tell me if he was actually serious? Or was this meant to be terrible?

  • I un-ironically like this.

  • still better then kings of leon

  • This is like if Frank Zappa and Velvet Underground did a country album.

And of course that's a good thing =)

  • This is punk.

  • Sounds like Bob Dylan.

  • I want this for my ring tone.

  • i jizzed like 4 times, 3 times during the trumpet solo

  • oh dear, the trumpet solo...

  • I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who thinks this is one of the worst records ever (yeah, OP was joking, but I sure as hell ain't). But at the same time, I'm not denying that I own a copy of it (actually recorded it off Dr Demento c1985).

  • At around 1:06 he sounds like a redneck Chimp who's drank too many moonshine, going all 'Deliverence' on someone. In short... it's awesome.

  • Since when did Boomhauer from King of the Hill get into the music business?

  • I love this song. Doesn't matter how may times I hear it I still crack up.

  • It sounds like a one man band being stabbed and thrown down a flight of stairs.

  • @tagjohnson Now that's my idea of good music.

  • This is a song with a message! Great unforgettable lyrics! Instant classic! Reminds me of the personality of the actor great late Dennis Hopper.

  • @LostCosmonauts Yes it does really! RIP Dennis H.

  • I remember getting this 45 in a 3-for-99¢ grab-bag from the Arny & Navy thrift store when I was a kid - my siblings and I thought it was hilarious and played it to death. When my 5th grade teacher assigned us to write an essay about a musical personality, I chose "the Ledge" as my topic. Info was scarce, but I had the 45, so I spun the disc for the class. My teacher declined to listen to the B-side, and told me I should have chosen a more noteworthy subject to write about. C-plus!

  • WOW.

Kill the music, you broke me. I wish to die now...

  • The Shaggs' little known duet with a hobo they picked up of the side of the road.

  • ...Ouch...

He's got some talent, but he seriously overestimated how good he is.

    ...my head hurts...

  • HAHA sounds like Kurt Cobain, other than the high pitched yelling

  • It's early psychobilly. Kind of good really....

  • What was the B side like?

  • @3replybiz that WAS the B side ;)`

  • hahaha I love this guy! I have tears in my eyes from laughing.. just go wild!

  • Around 1970 a radio station in Statesboro, GA ran a "contest" in which the "prize" was a bunch of records they had but weren't interested in playing. A friend of mine one and this record was among the prizes. As soon as she heard it she (1) hated it, and (2) decided to give it to me. I, of course, loved it. Drove the neighbors crazy.

  • Freaking awesome! I'm gonna use this on my voicemail message. Call me up and listen to this sweetness.

  • @GreatMarlys awesome ideia ! :D *blhurghgftyeyfbgf* XD

  • and so what you're saying is i still have a shot at recording for a major label?

  • Is it wrong that I coulsn't stop laughing? Genius!

  • It reminds me of being in nature listening to the breeze through pine trees, the birds, insects flying by, and a cowboy being murdred.

  • @nathanjamesbaker I actually do own the I've Been Everywhere CD that "Mountain Men" is on, and the Cowboy is definately on the top of his game there--he almost steals the show from Eugene!

  • It makes "Surfin' Bird" sound like a Beethoven symphony.

  • Best song ever

  • HUH?

  • I came here for the trumpet solo.

  • Musical Dadaism at its finest :)

  • I could get a few people addicted to this...

  • That was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

    *sheds tear*

    LMAO.

  • Bob Dylan meets Chuck Berry meets Keith Moon meets Gunga Din meets Charles Manson . . . meets ? ? ? ? ? I LOVE THIS . . .

  • The guy who made the comment about this bein' punk hit it right on the nose. This is a precursor of that genre if nothin' is. Avant-garde w/out the slightest knowledge of what that term even means. If Eugene Chadbourne hasn't recorded a version of this yet, he should consider doin' so. Won fi ylno I dluoc dnatsrednu eht 'nideelb sciryl!

  • This would be perfect music to be played at Gitmo along with Neil Diamond.

  • Norman Carl Odam will live to be 1000 years old.

  • Thank you, Ledge, for sharing your innermost thoughts, feelings and desires with the world :)

  • You know what, I couldn't say it any better myself :)

  • where grindcore really came from ^^

  • 2 questions:

-Why aren' t there thousands of idiotic video responses?

-Why haven't I heard this in a Tarantino movie before?

  • punk before proto-punk

  • The most important song of our generation, that didn't come from my generation

  • make that 99.99% alshouse , Long live Norman Odam

  • I'd rather listen to this than 99% of the songs out there today :)

  • @alshouse This total class. A drum and Bugle solo, who could ask for more.

  • @alshouse Really? I've seen this turd in concert, and he can't even get horrible right.

  • @alshouse

    Totally agree, this is great.

  • @alshouse Only 99%? I'm more like 99.9% :) . . . love that trumpet solo!

  • THAT'S Country!!!!!!!!

  • The greatest song ever written.

  • worst record ever?!

    GO FUCK YOURSELF

  • Lol, Fail

  • a) That 45 is probably worth quite a bit, believe it or not...

    b) That is T-Bone Burnett on drums. They recorded it in his studio.

    c) I am not making this up, Bowie was a big fan, and in fact took the name 'Ziggy Stardust' from the Ledge. He also covered the Ledge's "I Took A Ride In A Gemini Spacecraft"

So, apparently, the Ledge doesn't suck quite that bad...he was just psychobilly before X and The Blasters made it cool.

  • worst record ever - what about all that s***e that's on MTV.

  • i love you man... least someone has the balls to say stuff about MTV... wait.. what music i dnt think ive ever seen a music video on MTV O_o

  • @firestarter1101 If you like that you should check out 'She said' by Hasil Adkinsboth come from an album called rockabilly psychosis and the garage disease.

  • who is this by?

  • Dadaism at its finest :)

  • The mind boggles.

  • Not many people know it, but this record was broadcast to the astronauts on Skylab in the 70's,

to wake them up in the morning, by mission control (NASA). A NASA bigwig got wind of it, and

demanded that they stop playing it. Thus, this is the only song ever to be banned by NASA. No Joke.

  • Gee, I wonder why.

  • @nagpeack

    This would wake me up!

  • @nagpeack

    Hahaha funny story

  • @nagpeack they probably went out in space to get away from it lol

  • I've got this single! I play it to my students on occasion, just to keep them honest.

God, the trumpet "break" is priceless.

(I also love the retro portable record player!)

  • Woooooooooooooooo Hoo!
