you dont need to leave space at the top for air, as neons do not breathe air from the top of the tank. They do not have the labrinth organ like bettas or gouramis, and can only breath while under water.

Btw, these are cardinal tetras, not neon.

Add peat granules to the filtering system to soften the water. Tetras prefer water on the acidic/soft side. Make sure the aquarium is well planted. Lower the light level.

The easiest way to breed without all the rocket science is simple......make sure you have a PH lower than 7...........delay your regular water change so that the nitrates build up a bit. Pick a day and at night remove a quarter of the water from your tank, and towards morning, replace with a drip. The key is in "Drip" as in take a small air hose, restrict the water by either tying a loose knot or doubling it with a rubber band so that the water drips into the tank.

If you need an air pump for the fry, you should have one in the breeding tank to begin with. What are the water conditions in terms of pH, Hardness of the breeding and grow-out tanks? How do you handle the eggs? I was hoping for a video explaining how to breed neons and unfortunately this is just not a good video.
