@TheJ17M They aren't hippies, and they helped spread Krishna's name! George Harrison gave Bhaktivedanta Manor to Srila Prabhupada, and now that temple is a big Hare Krishna temple in England! So actually the Beatles gave a lot. They aren't just "stupid hippies."

You are right about Harry Pinsker, have just found and read this book "the strong and silent man " it is really sweet and a personal account of his life ,i recommend it :)

@Grafietstif Pretty much everyone was involved with the counterculture at some point during the 60's or early 70's. It started in the early 60's, but did not become big until 1965, and lasted until around 1972. Being a part of that I wouldn't consider a bad thing what so ever.

While Hare Krishna Movement founder, Srila Prabhupada was waiting for his disciples to complete renovation on the Bury place temple in London, John Lennon kindly offered his esate in Ascot Tittenhurst, the former Cadbury mansion, as a place for Prabhupada and his disciples to reside. Lennon also got the Krishna devotees to participate in helping him to renovate his own place. The book Chant and Be Happy contains excerpts of the John, George & Yoko asking Srila Prabhupada questions

He does not know that by doing this he is chanting the holy name and will be benefited. Just like during Lord Caitanya's time, the Muhammadans used to joke how the devotees were chanting Hare Krishna.

actually, many of the Beatles did take part in the international society for krishna consciousness. in fact, i believe it was lennon's property in london which became the main temple in london at the time
