this has been driving me crazy! what are those patch things that they put on the horses noses? the look like leather patches and i've seen them on almost all CC horses.....someone tell me what they are and what they are used for! Thank you!
They are Equine nasal strips used to support the soft tissues over the nasal passages providing reduced airway resistance during exercise. Basically ... making it easier for the horse to breathe. You can find them in almost every horse catalog. hope this helps :)
thank you so much! My (Arabian) trainer said that they were some sort of protectors for the solid fences, but i thought they were something like that. but how come they don't use them on TB racers?
What is used for protection over solid fences are the boots to absorb some shock and the greased legs help the horse slide over an obstacle if contact is made. I have no training experience in TB racing so not really the one to ask .... I assume it may have something to do with the rule books ... but this is just a guess. Great question though and now you have me wondering as well!
Thank you for your help! Ya, I knew about the boots and greases legs. It makes sense that trainers would use the nose things on TB's, so it must be against the rules if they don't do it...I will have to ask someone about that!
This is cool, but it's SO far removed from cross-country competitions in Norway. Here we have a huge forest with jumps all around it, and there's a path, and numbers on the jumps, but it's not... a big field with hedges on it :P

hey I know this has nothing to do with this comment, but what is the thing called that's above his boots all the way to the elbow?
0XxManicchicxX 2 years ago
Are you talking about the white stuff on the legs? If so, it's grease and helps the horse slide over an obstacle.
