This song will always be Joy Division's and Ian Curtis' song. Since the song is about his marriage to Deborah Curtis and his tormented mind before he commited suicide no one will ever be able to sing this song with the pain, alienation, emptiness and desolation that Ian Curtis gave his songs.

That said it is a fine cover, or better a fine song. José González is great. But there is no comparrison to the original version. People should stop comparing them.

this is such a hard song to cover merely for the fact that the original is such a cult classic. It's obviously not going to be as good or better than the original, but it's probably the best cover I've heard so far.

I love joy division. Every cover I've heard has been abysmal, they don't seem to convey that emotion that Curtis did with his droning voice. This however, is something different. Without a doubt the best cover.

I Like this better than the live version but only because all the live versions I've seen have been recorded with the idiot cell phone or something equally inferior, and the acoustics are SH*T!!! So hate on, you haters. This version is much more pleasing to the ear.

@MilleVeddinge it's the simplicity that makes this cover special. joses voice got not that much emotion in this one- perfect for a guy in the mid 20's, having a big depression. suicide is near. ian curtis story is so sad.
