  • Ray was so fast

  • @eugene680 yah tnink? That's like prime tyson vS Kevin McBride. He'd kill terry norris too.

  • Comment removed

  • SRL would murder mayweather! mayweather little defensive style will not help him!

  • Now this is how you knock a Mutha F##%%@ out!!!

  • Finch was also knocked out by Hearns and Curry.

  • ray robinson the real sugar ray was the greatest...he wouldve schooled leonard for yrs and knocked him out robinson was 1329-1 as a welterweight ...leonard was overrated imo

  • @fischparov got to stop smoking that crack pal

  • This must be his title defensive of the undisputed title after he beat Thomas Hearns.

  • Sugar Ray Leonard was a true BadAss. He wasn't a pretty boy boxer. He knocked suckas out.

  • Fastest hands p4p. Legit. And power was great with him as well.

  • duran is beast

  • Why does the ref take so long with the count?

  • That right at :44 was sick!!!

  • Hatton is not in Duran's class with or without the coke! Hatton is a mauler and very good at it but Duran was a great defensive fighter also, Duran could also outbrawl and outbox you like he did Leonard! Hatton would not have stood a chance against Leonard, Duran, Cuevas, Hearns, Benitez, Arguello, Pryor, Sanchez, Gomez these guys were Legendary in their prime, flat out incredible. Let's not take anything away from Rickey, he's a great fighter and he has earned his due he's just not legendary

  • At over weight? This doesn't make sense. Anyway, whatever!

  • People who discuss Hatton as a pound for pound fighter really don't know boxing.

  • @gfine2000

Rubbish. Hatton is the greatest fighter in the world at overweight.

  • @BruceinFalkirk HATTON?? u mean fatton who got his ass kicked by gayweather and pacroid

  • @FilipinosAreGay

Why do you think I said he was the world's greatest fighter at overweight?

    Can you not read?

  • @FilipinosAreGay pacroid funny

  • Muito boa luta

  • Why was Mills Lane getting int he way of SRL form ending this fight? he also didn't pick up where the ringside counter was at in terms of numbers but did his own count. None the less, SRL beat this dude up.

  • ref should have stopped the fight after the second knock down

  • Just before the last knockdown, it looked like Mills Lane was stepping in to stop it. Yet, he counted when the guy went down, THEN stopped it once he got back up.

  • DEFINITELY THE GREATEST!

  • @worldprayer

    no he ain't

  • Where is Leonard against Kevin Howard??????????????????

Some reason you don't want to post that one?

    LOL

  • @marcxopoco

they dont want Ray being seen on the floor

  • sugar ray one of the true great fighters

  • Ray leonard, Great fighter and underrated puncher.

  • What is Mills Lane doing? It looks that a couple of times he's stopping Leonard from hitting him while he's up. At the end of the round, he jumps in between while Leonard is boloing his punch, which is legal. Then before the last knockdown, he jumped in between before the guy was even down. Very strange.

  • @TA152H01 yeah but he was holding onto him and you cant hit and hold, but i see what you mean, when he put finch down for the last time it looked like mills was jumping in to stop it :S ive seen that faggot push bernard hopkins CLEAN out of the ring!!

  • Mills Lane was totally incompetent as a referee. Par for the course. Mills Lane saved Holyfield against Bert Cooper by giving Holyfield a standing count before Cooper could finish him.

  • Correct. Leonard and Duran held their own in physical encounters with the bigger , stronger Hagler. Alexis Arguello would have been a better opponent for Mayweather/Pacquiao. Leonard would have killed them. He had as good a k.o punch as Hagler.

  • BAD QUALITY

  • GREAT

  • Pacquaio and Mayweather are tiny compared to Leonard........he would punch 2 hard..at 147..remember he went on to win a light heavyweight championship. I think Duran vs Mayweather at welterweight would be a great fight....both great lightweights..as well

  • mayweather would have smashed that brawling shit duran

  • I have watched mayweather for a while and i have never seen hims smash the shit out of any1..he outboxes them!!.he has never fought any1 in the league of Duran...Duran beat SRL who i rate ar higher than Mayweather at welterweight.......i think Duran would win....but u never know. Freddie Roach said Duran would beat Pacquaio........as well.

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker You have to be the most dumb motherfucker ever to comment on youtube. Duran at lightweight would've pressured without getting hit by any of floyd gayweather punches while smothering him for 12 rounds and knocking him the fuck out. Moreover, if it was 15 rounds he would kill Floyd Pretty Gayweather, and at welterweight or Junior Welter Floyd would have ducked and declined fights with Duran,Hearns, Leonard, Pryor, and Arguello.

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker Mayweather and his shaky chin would have caved in. Mayweather is a fine technical boxer, but Duran was a monster who would have walked through Mayweather's soft punches/pot shots and would have destroyed Mayweather. Please learn up on the sport before you run your mouth about things you know nothing of. Thank you.

  • @ihatelifejosemartine listen pal u know fuck all ure the sort of idiot who loves to watch a brawl even ricky hatton would have beaten duran. and i fucking hate hattons style. duran would have been beaten comprehensively by mayweather believe it. go and watch mma u will like it better. dont try to educate me, because i will give u a simple concise answer. boxers always beat brawlers. duran was a one dimensional hairy scruffy git who could only fight one way. he was easy to figure out,

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker No, I am a BOXING fan, have been since 1982. I love all styles, from defensive wizards like Locche, Whitaker, to brawlers like Greb, Hearns, and Dempsey. Mayweather would not have last more than 8 rounds tih Roberto Duran, who would have gotten into his head before the fight, much the way, he got into Leonard's head, and would maul him, possibly even stop Mayweather. Yes, Duran would miss a lot, but he'd land a lot too, and would hurt Mayweather with all he threw.

  • @ihatelifejosemartine You were doing great in your argument until you said " Roberto Duran, who would have gotten into his head before the fight" Sorry Mayweather unlike Leonard would never be goaded into a machismo match. Floyd Always checks his ego outside before he gets into the ring. He doesn't care what fans or writers say. Cheers or Jeers Floyd fights his fight and makes adjustments accordingly Inspite of his prefight antics he is a thinking mans fighter and has veryvery High Boxing IQ.

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker Duran was far from one dimensional, he cold bob weave and Slip punches like no other, like he did to ray Leonard in Montreal. Watch more Duran fights instead of watching his Losses. Educate yourself.

  • @InternationalBoy yeah mate i hear you bobbing and weaving wont do everything pernell whitaker would have beaten him mayweather would have owned him. most hispanic guys fight the same way. come forward aggressive gutsy fighters.

  • lol like i said watch more Duran, you know nothing of his boxing skills.

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker listen to me duran is a poor mans fighter. a hero to the novices. people who love brawling mike tyson style of fighters. hatton would have beaten duran

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker Your a such an idiot you just owned yourself with that stupid comment. I hope someone sews ur asshole and keeps feeding you, or staples ur eyes so they stay open and feed nothing but sleeping pills.

  • @frEEturk please shut the fuck up. was roberto duran a defensive genius no. was he the sort of boxer who could move around with grace trying to elude and frustrate his opponents no. he was a brawler end of who could hit hard. Your outlook on boxing however eludes me. you know fuck all u remember that u were the type of idiot who thought hatton could kill mayweather in a boxing match and a prime hatton would beat pacquiao fuck offfff

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker Never liked Hatton- I'm from New Orleans- I was more of a Kostya Tszyu, Aaron Pryor, and Antonio Cervantes fan. Real junior welters, that put great and real pressure, great boxing skills, great technique, great chins, and real power. You can swear up and down at me but don't call me a Hatton fan.

  • @ThePunchinPeacemaker Hatton would of been killed by duran, hatton is and always will be a clown, his next fight is with a pork pie or is it a cheese and onion pasty.

  • Leonard at this stage of his career would overwhelm Mayweather Jr., and Pacquiao.

  • Yes i agree Leonard would be 2 strong..i think he would win both by stoppage..against both.

  • shut up man what the hell do u know mayweather would have outboxed duran like he did hatton

  • he knows more than you if you think mayweather would have beaten duran

  • yeah bullshit all of u idiots thought that hatton would beat mayweather u lot love ure brawling styles

  • if you're comparing hatton with duran you need to go and educate yourself, hatton wouldn't last 2 rounds with duran.

  • @sje1964

HAHA! the black version of Dave Green. he fall down go BOOOM!

  • @sje1964

actually he didn't last 2 round with the pacman so I'm guessing........

    Duran in 1 minute.

  • @sje1964 shut up dumb ass ...who did duran knockout that was any good in 2 rounds?

  • @sje1964 hatton lol

  • @Pleaver Leonard leaves himself too open for counters The guy he fought here (Bruce Finch) caught him a few a times.SRL is the Bigger Stronger man but he's not a Giant Monster or One Punch Killer like the Thomas"HitMan"Hearns Money and Manny would be able to hit Leonard too.Yes they are both naturally smaller but they're both lighting fast punchers with great movement like leonard himself. Between Floyds Defense and Mannys Awkwardness Sugar Ray would be in for "A Hard Days Night" Vs M&M

  • lets just say that the champions today would just be contenders in sugar rays time lol

  • sugar ray could beat pacqioua

  • obviously

  • Leonard would of beaten the pretty boy and pac man with ease .. As would of Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran ..

  • Unreal, the quickness of combinations, especially off the ropes. Occasionally wild with this right hand throughout his career but awesome.

I don't think Donald Curry would have beaten him as one suggested but that would have been an intriguing matchup as would Mike McCallum.

I'll agree as much as I loved Arguello, while not overrated, not in this class, just a shade below.

  • ya'll hear larry merchant?...he sounds the same even in the 80's

  • finch looked like he had a stroke after that last knockdown...

this is the fight that finch detached leonard's retina.. but it's hard to tell where, because he landed so few punches...

  • very complete fighter

  • This was also Mills Lane reffing at his best.

Sadly, Mills Lane ruined alot of fights with his quick stoppages later on in his career. Look at Taylor v Norris. I'm not saying Taylor would have won, but geez, it is a prime example of Mills Lane getting a queezy stomache cause a fight is breaking out.

  • Can anyone tell me a fight where i can see one of Sugar's famous punches please ..

  • I think you may be confusing Mills for Steel. Richard Steel took way to much heat for supposedly stopping several fights to early. All of those losing fighters continued their boxing careers and made lots of money thanks to Richard Steel... Just imagine Tyson or Chavez hitting a man with a sucker shot in the head let alone when your hurt and dog tired.

Thank You to all the referees who protect fighters from their own courage, and despite there perfect records or promotional ties.

  • Does anyone know how Mills Lane is doing? I heard that he had suffered a stroke and was recovering but I have not heard anything since.

  • Steele was on the take.

  • against mayweather

  • Duran 2 he does some crazy shit, poor duran

  • A work of art.

  • Damn Leonard fucked that guy up, i feel kinda sorry for him.

  • @Abdizzo leonard in his prime is damn scary

  • straight outta PG county. Sugar is a legend.

  • too bad his gym sucks, you guys come to salisbury and get bust-up

  • Comment removed

  • Leonard was superfast! And he had power too.

  • SUGAR BABY!!!!!!!!! I LOVE watching these fights from back in the day.

  • Leonard was defensive but had some good offensive too. whitaker was too defensive, no power, hugged too much. Mayweather the same.

  • Sugar ray leonard was a master of sticking with his gameplan throughout a fight. Alot of fighters winning a fight force the contest and get caught.

  • Its like every fighter Angelo Dundee or Cus D'Amato trains becomes legendary

  • He's like a cat!

  • yeah its was like a cat playing with a mouse, could finish him anytime

  • Mills Lane tried to stop it early, but Leonard got those quick shots in there to drop him one final time...that should shut up any Finch fans on here that love hatin' on Leonard.

  • a true legend

  • Now this is the art of Boxing! No dirty tricks and shit.

  • that is awesome! it almost looks like hes in a bit of trouble at first. damn

  • Lightening strikes at :40

  • damn sugar ray was fast as hell.

  • Pernell Whitaker does not relly get the attention he deserves. As a lightweighter he was oustanding.

  • too true

  • well said, the reason he doesn't get the credit he deserves is to the untrained eye "Hes a runner and doesn't fight, so in other words boring." To me there's nothing better than watching Pernell ply his craft because, fighters like himself only come around once every 50 or so years, for example; the last great defense wizard like himself was Willie pep and that was in the 1940's.

  • Mayweather was pretty good to. His retirement sucks but his defence was great.

  • Ref should have been arrested, after the third round the fight was over

  • what a legend!

  • tbh, Id have Leonard at No1 from 78-08 as well. If you include Duran's full lightweight reign then I'd have him at No1, but much of that was obviously prior to 78.

I think I'd have Leonard, Duran, Whitaker, Chavez, Hagler, Sanchez, Jones, Hopkins, Spinks, Hearns above Toney for sure. Arguello, DLH, Mayweather, Calzaghe, McCallum, and a few others would rank closely to Toney.

Toney definitely had the talent to rank higher but he wasted so many years of his career. Still love watching him though

  • Arguello was the best fighter in the sport back in 1978 along with Duran. Hagler was the best fighter between 1980 and 1985. Roy Jones was the sports best between 2003 and 2002.

  • Arguello was great I just think he's slightly overrated. Certainly he wasn't as good as a Lightweight Duran.

  • he was undefithed as feather, superfeather and lightweightchamp. pryor was the one who stoped him but he was on drugs so that dosent count. arguello is not owerrathed in any way

  • he wasn't undefeated at 126 or 135, mate (not that I put that much weight on the occasional loss). He's an all time great fighter - one of the 40 greatest fighters in history for sure, I just think SOME people overrate him slightly. He certainly wasn't as good as Duran or leonard for instance.

  • he was undefeated as a CHAMP. he lost 4 times before he became champ. after becoming a champ only lost one time in a nontitlebout. Duran and Arguello would haved been an interesting fight but as you say, Duran was a bit beter.

  • james toney is the greatest fighter of the last 30 years and hes better then leonard

  • LOL. Ask Dave Tiberi and Terry McGroom. Not exactly a who's who of boxers who whipped Toney's ass but didn't get the decision. Leonard never looked like shit in his prime. Can't say the same for Toney. And don't give me the excuse of not being movtivated or in shape. That's part of the job of being a champion. Toney, skill wise, is a great fighter. When it comes to looking good in the ring, not just physically I might add, he loses points.

  • toney has 70 plus fights won titles from middleweight to heavyweight never ducked anybody fought who ever you put in front of him unlike leonard toneys a master boxer unlike leonard who fights like a wounded cat

    man please

  • Again, look at Toney's record. Btw that ass whupping Roy Jones gave him up to the Jirov fight, his career was a waste. Leonard's stay was shorter because when he was there he actually trained and fought hard. When you piss away time and don't put in the work, it's easier to hang around forever. Toney is great though, just not greater than Leonard. So get off his nutsack and get over it

  • man please you get off leonards sack look at the ass whoopin terry norris gave leonard the ass whoopin camacho gave him and what you mean dont put in work how toney wasnt puttin n work he got 70 plus fights leonard put in work? please he only got 30 something fights and thats cuz he was a bullshit artist that jumped in and out of boxing and ducked everybody yo homeboy no something about boxing before you speak go do ya homework and then come holla at me

  • Im a huge Toney fan, one of my top 5 fave fighters all time, but I doubt he'd break the top ten greatest fighters of the last 30 years.

  • you got a point there is a lot of great fighters that could contest that

  • but if someone cud say leonard is the greatest then toney could definitley be number 1

  • @boxingnut1986 I love Toney. He could've been the G.O.A.T over the last 30 Years BUT he wasted his talents and gifts by being too fat and lazy. At his best he was Awesome. Truly one a kind

  • still think he's better than gayweather

  • sugar ray throws the best right hand upper-cut

combinaion ever...... and whats so funny is in his prime he was sooooo under rated in regards to his inside fighting. He was one of the best inside outside fighters ever!!!!!

  • best combination boxer of mall time

  • Yes Sir.This is not the comebacking for no reason, gotta prove something, miss boxing,Ray Leonard. This is the great young hungry Ray!

  • Sugar Ray Leonard was absolutely fantastic, exceptional. No doubt, the best boxer of all time. An artist of boxing.

  • You need to watch some vintage Ray Robinson and Ali fights before you claim "no doubt the best boxer of all time." There's no way to prove he is or isn't. He's undoubtedly one of the three greatest welters in the sport's history though

  • definitely

  • you are a fucking nut ! leonard far superior to toney

  • This was Sugar Ray Leonard at his peak, At this point of his career he was at his absolute best. He had already defated Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns. In this fight he was at the ultamite height of his glory. this was his last fight before he had to retire from boxing because he stated to have problems with one of his eyes. He retired from boxing after this fight and became a boxing commemtator for CBS and HBO. But he would eventually return to the ring years later.

  • Definitely, at his peak, but Leonard admitted that Finch hurt him in this fight.

  • @juanellindo wating for hagler to get old.

  • I met leonard last week at mammoth mountain, very nice guy. He was rinting skii's for him and wife n kid

  • his 3 defeats sorry.

  • other than duran, like you mentioned he lost to terry norris in '91 and then hector camacho in '97.

  • Hey can any1 tell me who were leonards 5 defeats i know 1 was duran

  • roberto duran-15rd split decision 1980

    terry norris-12rd unanamous decision 1991

    hector comacho-5th round TKO 1997

those are leonards 3 defeats with a record of (36-3-21-1draw)

  • And the losses to Norris and especially Camacho were past his prime. Hell, he was 40 years old and hadn't fought for 6 years when he lost to Camacho.

  • omfg fuck off!! no one cares about your gay fucking site

  • There was no better fighter than Sugar Ray Leonard! He would take in the same evening, Mosley, Forrest, and Mayweather, and ko all.

  • @nick1729

there's a lot of fighters better than SRL. Roy Jones, Micheal Nunn, Terry Norris, Hagler. and Mayweather has much better longevity. Sugar Ray only has 36-3-1. Maywather is 33 with 41 fights and still never lost. Sugar Ray went down bad when he had to deal with the speed of Norris

  • leonard has a gr8 jab

  • can you please show me his lost bout somewhere in Nov 7 1988.

  • Leonard vs. Mayweather in a dreamn match!

  • Sugar Ray to me was a great counter puncher and used a burst of punches when his oppenents where

off balanced. Even on the ropes he would counter back sometimes turning the fight into his favor. Most fighters did not get this fact, they simply over extend themselves trying to knock him out and this is when Sugar

Ray really pop the surprize make a fliry of punchs when other fighter have exhausted themselves. Master of holding back until the

    right time.

  • He was one of those rare fighters that recognizes that timing is everything in boxing.

  • People say that Ray couldn't punch, but he had more power than most people gave him credit for.

  • i think sugar ray leonard is a lot stronger than he is credited 4 as u can see here and in the 1st hearns fight

  • dano--SRL's hand speed was bserkers! Even going back to when fought the Cuban in the 76 Olympic final. He was insane getting you outta there. That 13th and 14th round w/Hearns, again he lost his mind throwin punches. SRL and SRR made you have orgasms their combos were so beautiful to experience! SRR studied anatomy to know where to place his shots.

  • Does anyone know where to find a Leonard VS.Bonds video,from1981?

  • leonard is great just look at that hand speed, its freakin incredible lol.

  • leonard aint great buddy mcgirt was great donald curry sugar ray robinson shane mosley leonards a good boxer but too much hype and really just a bullshit artist

  • McGirt was okay,Curry liked being kayoed, and you are a jackass!

  • i can tell you dont know nothing bout boxing

  • Buddy McGirt and Donald Curry were better than Ray Leonard? What fuckin planet are you living on? They couldn't carry Leonard's spit bucket! Shane Mosley lost to Forrest and Winky twice each. He ain't better than Leonard either. Stay off the fuckin crackpipe son!!!

  • Finch had the honor of losing to and being knocked out by 3 damn good fighters leonard, hearns, curry..

  • sugar ray leonards overrated hes a real good boxer but thats it he is not a great fighter

  • What a dumbass comment. Leonard beat 4 hall of fame fighters. Duran, benitez, hearns and hagler. Against those 4 fighters leonard's record is 4-1-1. He also beat 2 other champions and won titles in 5 weight classes. Do your fucing homework before saying such stupid things.

  • with statements like this, I see why you call yourself the boxing nut.

  • your on drugs if you think leonards better then ray robinson

  • Obviously, I'm not so stupid to compare Leonard with Robinson however you mentioned Curry, Mcgirt, Mosley in the same breath as Robinson. Who's the nut here?

  • i didnt say curry and mcgirt should be mentioned when they mention robinson i said curry shane where better then leonard curry would have destroyed leonard he wouldnt have lasted but a couple of rounds foreal leonard had talent but curry was a master boxer

  • if he's not then gayweather ain't nothin then

  • Whitaker may have something to say about him being the best of the last 30 years.

  • hmmm...it seemed like those right hands that sugar ray was throwing were really right elbows and those body shots looked like low blows.

  • Ray Leonard from 1978 through 1982 was as good a fighter as I've ever seen. Really had no weaknesses.

  • When I was real young I use to watch Bruce spar with journey men heavyweights. Only way a guy his size can do that, is with enough sting to keep them honest. Sure I though Bruce had a chance but Leonard just tees off on him. Leonard could really stick which was overlooked by people who have only experienced boxing through a screen. The fact that he could do it with so much style makes him unique.

  • Leonard said no one hit him as hard as Finch. He may have done that to infuriate Hearns, Duran and Hagler into fights-remember he didnt retire until after his retina came later that year-but that says a lot about Finch's power, like you said he had good sting.

  • I wasn't aware of that. I had been stationed in europe just before that match so I missed a lot in the ensuing years. Everyone in the gym thought Finch had a shot but they also thought Hearns would destroy Leonard. I wasn't around to hear what they thought about Hagler although boxing people tend to accept reality quicker the most. I'm sure like most of us, they realized what a special boxer Ray was.

  • I still believe that no matter what judges did not want Hagler to get that decision. Ray hit Hagler after the bell 3 consecutive rounds. He also hit him with several low blows and never got a point taken away. I'm not denying that ray wasn't one of the greats in his time but, I believe he got to much respect by officials in later years.

  • Like a cat teething on a mouse before it kills it.

  • he did get hurt by Finch, which he admitted later.

  • you can see just how great the sugar man was! he played with finch and then just stepped up a gear and then KO him! pure class

  • Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, Wilfredo Benitiz, Alexis Arguello and Aaron Pryor. Damn! The late 70's and 80's had some GREAT fighters in the lightweight to middleweight classes.

  • It was by far the best era fot the lightweitght to middle weight class.

  • true..can throw in antonia cervantes..cornelius boza edwards..tony ayaly(for a while b4 he got sent to jail)john the beast mugabi..armando muniz..lots of others and in lgt hvy..rossman,franklin,mrvn jonson, victr galindez, john conteh, eddie gregory and on and on
