how anyone could say console graphics are better than PC graphics is beyond me. they both have their merits, but youre gonna lose ur arguement if you make it about graphics. do you even realise how many generations behind in technology the hardware in the ps3 is ? you do realise what year the ps3 was made right? graphics on a console are made possible with software coding tricks, not pure hardware ability.

Lol, this = the Fermi.

If you look through some GTX 480 benchmarks, you can see that crossfire 5770s perform nearly as well in just about every game. 2x 5770 = £240, less noise, less heat, less power. 1x GTX 480 = £450, 100-150 watts extra power, 95 degrees load temperatures, sounds like a vacuum????

My HD 5770 is silent and never runs higher than 40 degrees celsius, even while my phenom II burns over 70. It's like the Honda Civic to Nvidia's painfully overperforming jetplane GTX 480.

Ah yes the Semi Dx9 card, well happily we all can look forward and enjoy the current line up. It was a funny time though. A friend bought a FX5800. I did buy a second hand Ati 9500 Pro.

I did get decent performance without a need to overclock, he well overclocking was almost impossible, it was loud and yes it was not equal to my experience.

FX5800 was just a power hungry, inefficient card. 9700 and 9800 were the beauties of the day. Though at the time I owned the 9500 Pro which also was great value for the money.

Fx5900 was actually a good card.I had 5900Ultra once and it was a good card but it depends a lot of the processor and memory.

Absolutely not. The whole "FX" series of the cards was completely inferior (especially in DX8 performance which were they supposed to bring to the table) compared to ATI 9x00 series.

They were bought out by AMD, but not because they were going out of business. The reason was that AMD wanted their gfx expertise for their fusion projects etc etc.

AMD is not going out of business any time soon, they just signed a contract for a new factory in new york, got a couple of huge investment from saudis and ATi has(As I previously mentioned) the fastest graphical chips out there atm.

You should get your facts correct AMD didn't 'buy them out' there was a merger a completely different thing altogether. Also around this time nVidia products namely the FX5xxx series were well known for 'sucking'.

LOL the 5800 runs cool and quiet vs the latest cards from nVidia or ATI. I had a 5950 and binned it for a 6800 GTX for Far Cry as the 5 series could not cope with Far Cry.

Sadly, there's little you can do about the issue. Unless you find a third-party cooler, which is highly unlikely due to the cards age.

I would recommend you to buy a new card but since the few remaining AGP cards with acceptable performance have a ridiculously bad price performance ratio, you're probably better off buying something from ebay and/or considering to buy a new system alltogether in the near future.

Yea see its typical. Where did you get the infos about ATI beating the 6 and 7 series and all that? By taking a look at benchmarks people post. I actualy got the knowledge by owning them myself. I owned at least 2 High End GPUs from ATI in every series since the 9800. Same with Nvidia. ATI got more frames in the benchmarks, but very instable performance. While Nvidia didnt get that high as ATI, but never as low as them, so they had a few frames less but WAY better overall performance.

Actually the FX series was underrated. I had a FX 5500, a 5800, and the 5950 Ultra. In comparison I had a Radeon 9800 Pro and XT. I had better performance with the FX 5500 already than I had with the 9800! The FX cards just were way more stable, nice framerate in every game, while the Radeons went up to 90, then down to 20, up to 50 again and then down to 8. And lets not even start talking about the drives of ATI. Nvidia always was, still is and forever will be superior to everything ATI makes!

Thats why they beat the MX4 series, FX5k series, 6k series, 7k series and of coarse doesnt beat the 8800's in performance but they have alot better price performance and better dual card performance scaleability.
