Many GREAT memories from AstroWorld ... Thank you Kieran Burke for making a horrible and WRONG decision to close the park ... It was appropriate that the Board of Directors of Six Flags fired your ass after the EPIC FAIL ... in the sale of the property ... The company lost 73 million dollars in that deal ... Serves you right !
Thank you for sharing this. I grew up in Houston in the early 70s, and have many memories of Astroworld. So many things that changed during my time (like the pumpkin) are shown in this old footage. Flashback!
Too bad the place didnt stay around long enough for my kids to enjoy it although after my last trip there I dont know if I would have taken them. The employees had obviously never been trained in customer service and the entire place was filled with trash. Everywhere you looked was filth brought on by the fact that the place had become a baby sitter for too many people who couldnt afford a belt to hold the damn pants up but they could afford a season pass. Thanks for ruining Astroworld assholes!
Didn't that ride shut down in the late 70's or early 80's? I started going there in the summer of '83 and it was not even mentioned as a ride although I heard it used to be there.
I was 7 years old when Astroworld opened, and spent many more summers riding these rides. I love the video of the Alpine Sleighs! Thank you thank you thank you!
It sounds as if Houston area will be getting a new Theme park! I am in IRAQ in the Army and decided to research what happened to my Favorite park AstroWorld. I came across this information and hope it is true. My wife thought I needed a change in my life after living in Houston since 1968, so while I am deployed we moved to Kingsport Tn.
They aint got no Parks around there! So I hope it happens so I can go to the park when I visit Houston.
@chuckysbak damn i'm super late but they are building a new theme park just cant remember when they are going to open it, i believe its in 2012 or a lil later
it will never compair to Astroworld!

It was a shame how Six Flags management seemed to have "given up" on Astroworld years before it's demolition...
