Hauntingly beautiful beyond words. I do believe that there is Irish in my family, or my blood. There are definitely Celtic origins in my soul. This wrings tears from me, like rain from storm clouds. Even though I was adopted and no nothing of my past, I feel compelled to go on a search for my roots.Music like this has been calling me for a lifetime.
This song is so beautiful...so much that I named a kitten that adopted my husband and me DANU! She is a sassy shorthair with tortoise markings that came into our lives after we had to put our beloved Ginger, a calico persian, to sleep. There is no doubt in my mind that Ginger sent Danu to us, as Ginger adopted us many years before.

I just bought this entired DVD and it is amazing!! The songs our so enchanting and captivating!! I find this one to entrance me the most!! It's wonderful!! Being a musician since age four, I'm fascinated with this kind of haunting sound!
Esta es una delas musicas más hermosas que he escuchado.
Yo no conocia este grupo, en America Latina la musica irlandesa es más conocida por Enya. Anuna, así como las chicas del Celtic Women, es fantástico !
It seems to me that many Irish musicians and singers are competing with each other to see who can produce the most haunting loveliness and expressive beauty in their music.
How I wish those in the mainstream who make records on our side of the Irish Sea attempted to do the same :-(
I know what you mean. I hope that there is no rivelry between them because I personally think that Lynn Hilary and Kati McMahon were the best singers. I love Lynn's The Wild Song and Kati's Home and the Heart Land.
Now I know what you mean - you meant that in your opinion they were the best singers. Well, we are all entitled to those, no matter where the opinion comes from.
Wow. It reminds me the music when of Johnny Depp's witch mother rises up in the air while dancing in round in the movie Sleepy Hollow. The 5/4 rhythm has a magical, softly haunting feel...
...in your opinion. Not shared, I might add, by others. Lynn and Meav were both excellent vocalists and specialised in producing a certain type of sound while with us. Anuna doesn't just feature voices like theirs. Lucy specialises in Early music and actually features on more tracks as a soloist than Meav.
Oh I agree. Never meant to undercut anyone with your fine organization, in which this old guy is in complete AWE of! I told Meav recently, that this old choirster from the past could not, in my best days, have done your version of Dulaman or Fionnaghuala...but I would have LOVED to have TRIED!! AMAZING!! But again...absolutely NO disrespect for anyone!
The Celtic style also lends itself to what sounds -or is- perfect pitch. The lack of vibrato helps with that. Same as boy sopranos. If you research the music you can hear the huge difference that vibratos make.
Well, the vibratos are lovely in some contexts, as in, you wouldn't was a celtic singer singing O Mio Babbino Caro. It just wouldn't sound right. The vibratos are appropriate there.
And you're right. The Kartherine Jenkins 'Sacred Arias' album is wonderful. I have her rendition of Pie Jesu.
I think that Andreja is actually employed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, and she simply works with Celtic Whatever on an ad hoc basis.
Does anyone know the name of the song after this one? I know it was an all-guy song, and you can find it if you type in "anuna" at google video and click the 6th one down or so(picture looks like a black square, 7 minutes long). The song whose name I'm looking for is the 2nd one in this video.(quality's a bit crappy though)
...and it is posted here as Anuna Live in Japan - much less crappy to see too. You can also see it on the Celtic Origins DVD and it is very much less crappy. Crappy. Great word.
Just saw Anuna yesterday!!!! AAAAAAAAAAmazing!!!! My mom had to keep me from singing along...Still, I wish that Lucy would have been there. Beggers can't be choosers, and it was amazing anyway!!!!!!! Thanks for doing the U.S. Tour, even though you weren't there.

They've replaced every singer who has left the group. That's how the group is over 20 years old.

karma8853 3 years ago
Is it just me or does it seem like the Irish (in Celtic music) sing with perfect pitch better than most other singers
benjaminkenobi21 3 years ago 3
No - its not true. we just use more auto-tune.
brezairola 3 years ago
No we don't....lol. I've heard Anuna sing in St Ann's Church in Dublin City....perfect pitch quite un-aided.
Most of the singers are classically trained....so perfect pitch is second nature. Enjoy!

I agree. I really dislike vibrato which is why I love listening to classically trained sopranos in the 'cathedral' tradition.
Katherine Jenkins has a new album out called 'Sacred Arias' where she drops her usual vibrato and her voice is truly beautiful.
I really dislike the heavy vibrato of operatic sopranos. Makes them all sound about 102!

Riverdance...? Anuna left it in 1996. Shining Water was released on the 2006 album "Sensation".
