Probably the most imporrtant song ever written. The song tells of hundreds of years of suffering, with the theme being that all war is justified by religion. Why does Christianity survive? Because Bishops of every country tell their young folk to kill other young folk, and the reward for the Church is Rememberance Sunday and the Cenotaph. I agree with you. But i think the whole point of the song is that God is actually not an excuse to justify war. When he talks about Judas betraying Jesus with a kiss and asks us to decide whether God was on his side, he's basically saying that God was not on Judas' side and God was never on the side of war.
