It is astonishing the amounts they were using, Slash and Axl were both HEAVY coke and heroin users, and if Adler was doing more than they were, I can only imagine the amounts. Noel Gallagher from Oasis was headline news back in 1996 and 97 for his $4,000 a week coke use. That is ALMOST an ounce per day ! I know people who can not even smoke an ounce of weed in just one day, much less use an ounce of coke in just one day !! Point is, Adler was in that same boat as Gallagher.....

@StuRaz I read his book, you know a coin always has 2 sides, same as a story and Steven's version of events seemed like nothing but being betrayed by management and his fellow band members.

GNR signed with Geffen and instead of splitting 20% into 5 portions they decided to fuck with Steven's portion so he would get 15% and Axl 25% of Royalty's.

GNR were making a shitload of money, Steven got a back payment through court of $2.25 Million for his 15% and that was for just over 1 years worth...

It makes that whole sequence of events make sense rather than what Slash said - like when he broke his hand and how if it was Slash the gig would be pulled, wrongly prescribing buprinex, the whole court ordeal, sending him into rehab so Don Henley could perform. Btw if you haven't watched that, Slash was the one who needed rehab from that video.

@Parag0n actually the royalties were based on how much each member contributed to the album, the member who wrote the most material got the highest percentage. and as no offence to steven, he's not as musically talented as the other 4 members of the band, he wrote the least, and got the smallest percentage.

Izzy who quit 1 year later said "When Adler was gone, it was just unbelievable, weird. Nothing worked"

Everyone says how Axl should have kept him in the band. Listen, it was bad that he had to leave but he did sign a contract that if he did anymore drugs he would of gotten kicked out. And, if he continued to be with them we probably wouldn't have Steven with us now. Guns 'N Roses were partying dudes 24/7 so it would have been unhealthy for Steve to stay with them.

Love the old Guns 'N Roses with a passion, Love Izzy, Love Steven, Love Slash and Love Axl. Hopefully a reunion will happen soon.

@robban97swe Even though i strongly agree with you, i'd have to add that it's tough. Your entire world is twisted into going from city to city for years, playing for thousands of people. And after that, it gets tougher. Your everyday life is just insanely tough because you have been on such a high tempo for so long, and then suddenly you go down in pace, and sit in your house with all your money without anything to do. Drugs made life funny for him. But yeah. Avoid the drugs, they'll kill you :)

I like Adler but don't trust any of these former addicts, especially the ones on Soberhouse, who were making over 200, 000 per season. If you were watching this show in '96, it sounds as though he's headed to complete recovery but within less than a year, he would be using again. He then shows up over ten yrs later on Celebrity rehab. Seems that the ones who truly recover are the ones who don't publicize their recovery.

The disease of addiction is hard to beat if you do not put forth the effort to change. He was in really bad shape in celebrity rehab, his mother was an enabler and co-depedant. As a former addict and alcoholic myself as well as a drug and alcohol counselro now, it's an every day way of life to stay sober and one has to want it for themselves. I hope he is back on track, he was and I hope still is an awsome drummer and a good person.
