This is great but at $1800. The price needs to come way down. An electric scooters and mopeds are still more attractive and the learning curve is much lower. Still I would want one if the price is significantly cut.
Product Spec Question: (as there are virtually no info from their site) Top Speed? Min "Stabilized" Speed (It can't be 0mph)? Cruising Speed Range? Turning circle? Travel per Charge? Charging Time? Slope Gradient? Product Weight? Terrain Type? (grass & dirt, rain/ wet asphalt)? Choice of colour? Maximum Capacity? Tyre Size? (if ever punctured) Overall Dimension in mm? (so to fit in backpack if not used) Low battery indicator? led or buzzer? Delivery & plug type? (US & UK only?)
Hmmm, I'm conflicted as well. I'm sure it takes some balance, so that requires core strength. But I live in a city of hills, so I don't know if this would work...going up or down. And I don't know how easy it is to maneuver. All of these guys were coasting along on flat sidewalks with no human traffic. Not necessarily indicative of real life.
Yeah that's cool or I could just you know walk where I am going. Like all vehicles without a proper brake it is only a matter of time till you crash into something or get run over. Just look what happened to the inventor of the segway.
Interesting, but yet another device to contribute to the appalling physical fitness of society. Notice in the video, the employee rides to work, walks the short distance to their cubicle and sits down in front of a screen. Then grows fatter and lazier....
(the only thing is - if i ever got enough money to buy one of these, i wouldn't have a place to ride it. you're technically not allowed motorized -stuff- on the sidewalks. and i doubt it's "street legal" ... that was the problem with motorized scooters too...)
Problem is people will never sacrifice their dignity in the name of transportation. That's the problem with Segways, that's the problem with the smart car, and that's the problem with this thing. This is also the reason why we WALK everywhere instead of running. We look much more graceful walking.
This looks really cool! Does it take leg muscles to turn and stuff because I'm guessing if it does it could be a fun exercise. How much does it weigh?
Question: if Solowheel can only handle riders of 250 lbs or less.. How long will it take for riders to increase their weight to 250+ lbs, after they stop walking?? (therefore, making Solowheel useless?)
It takes 15 minutes to walk to the subway. Let's assume the bus is running late, and no cabs are available. I have to be somewhere. This would serve me well as a quick way to whisk to the subway, then easily carry it, especially in a crowded subway where bikes are annoying. There's no need to lock it up. Cool. I would love to try it.
Some comments are so ignorant. Who owns or has tried that which they speak against?
I guess all of you who feel that getting around without walking encourages obesity. So NO ONE in NYC is fat because we walk everywhere, up and down stairs to the subway. Drivers of cars should WALK instead of looking for the perfect parking spot in front of the store. Bikers are all in superior shape even though it's possible to just glide and not break a sweat on a bike, and burn muscle from too much cardio.
Do you really think this thing is supposed to replace our cars? Do you want to do more than 10 mn on this wheel? I would rather walking than standing on this wheel.
It dosen't mean the concept is useless, but I don't think people are gonna buy something like that.
@InventistInc Im guessing you didn't have any logic when you wrote that comment. (People would use this to replace walking all together) They will just use this and cars... woohoo for the near fat future!
I'm sure it is uncomfortable as hell. Firstly, you must upkeep balance all the time, stand still and don't even think about scratching nose. Secondly, turning seems to be very difficult and slow, finally - it seems that to turn you must keep a proper stance and that means constant muscle tension which is tiring. On bike you at least sit.
@satarielful The Solowheel BC can only handle riders of 250 lbs or less. It may be a model in the future... would you like to be added to the waiting list?
@gustlik2000 Stary nie wpasowałeś się w temat, to nie jest urządzenie do "odchudzania" się, tylko ma ułatwiać transport - roweru czasami nie ma gdzie zostawić, a to zabierasz ze sobą jak walizkę. :)

I want to see it (a) turn--you know, really maneuver; (b) go uphill; (c) go near people (how well you can control this thing is a pretty important consideration); and (d) stop short without wiping out. And you might as well put on a helmet now--you know you'll need one the first time someone takes a header off this gizmo.
Very innovative and clever idea. Love the portability and the price actually doesn't seem that bad for what it does. Segways are way more expensive and aren't nearly as cool.
Has many applications for those who have problems walking -- 12 mph is scooting right along. Add a yoke to it and give it more stability. Dislike ignorant people with crass mouth.
