  • I played with them in Dortmund in Germany.

    Great band!!!

Murdos Wedding I find boring, but then again I like the Conondrum and everybody hates it.

  • I like the Conundrum, but the last part starts to grate on you after a while. :P

  • Absolutely astounding! Played snare drum in a Michigan band starting at age 8 through 16.

Nothing like listening to a grade 1 band as a young boy that wanted so much to be that good.

  • Oh, you lot make me a homesick. Used to live in Kilwinning and go to hear you and watch you perform wherever we could. You are a fantastic lot. Just dead brilliant!

  • I really like the slow air that they play half way through. Any one know what it's called??

  • The Slow air is called Miss Victoria Ross.

  • By the way we sing songs and play tunes

  • Could anyone please tell me what the first tune was called id really like to look up the sheet music and have a go, any ideas?

  • i have only been playing for 6 months:) i hope to be that good, what song do they play?

  • Stick in and practice. Make sure you can walk before you run. Get some good tuition (don't self teach from a cd or book).

What they are playing is called a medley of TUNES (several of them) not SONGS. Some day with practice and dedication I'm sure you might make it. Good Luck.

  • great performence. I playd in a band in the 80s in belgium and I still love the music

  • damn.. i just actualluay got my bagpipes like 3 days ago.. so im not nearly that good. but hopefully someday i will be half that good haha

  • i started playing last year, i hope i get this good!

  • this is a very good video of an excellent performace,

great playing of mostly very nice tunes. very enjoyable, makes me wish I was able to witness live performance.

  • They are inspiring,

  • That is a huge band I hope to get that good and be in a grade one pipe band.Right now i a in a grade 4.Well good job

  • one of the things I dont understand about piping....why does it always have to be about competing? Why can't you just play because you love it? That is one of the things that I'm apprehensible about joining a pipe band.

  • You don't have to compete if you don't choose to, but competing makes it more fun and interesting.

  • that's pretty much right on. It seems like people that play the bagpipes can only do it in certain settings, and, as in sports, want to be able to judge their skill (reasons could come from being insecure to simply wanting the feeling of community). I personally think the bagpipe is a wonderful instrument thats been bogged down with so much historical and cultural association that most people don't let it just be an instrument, or music for that matter.

  • I partially agree with your assessment of 'why' compete. There is a lot of really poor piping that's excused away as the way bagpipes are supposed to sound. We don't excuse poor playing on other instruments, so why do we on the bagpipes? Competition and judging (generally speaking) gives you a chance be compared against an accepted standard...but, I agree that it's not for everyone. But I wish more people would learn the pipes as an instrument rather than a novelty.

  • Well done Strathclyde Pipeband amazin

  • Very Big Band.

  • Wow man this is incredible... :O

  • andy is it o it is WOW!! COOL I LIVE THAR :D

  • Thats leven grove park! XD

  • This event is judged 100% on music. The tapping of feet doesn't come into it at all.

  • In Scotland it isn't like that. The pipe major gets judged on his time and rythem.

  • Time and rhythm is part music...

  • "The tapping of feet doesn't come into it at all. "

    Quote from you.

  • If any of you actually care to argue about this, why don't you do yourself a favor and research it before spouting off about something that you are completely clueless about? The "tapping of the foot" is certainly not judged, at least not in any contest that is sanctioned by any reputable pipe band association. I love reading this crap from all of you "experts".

  • marching and deportment (M&D) is an important aspect in pipe band judging and often is the deciding factor if two bands have the same points - known ad M&D preference

  • If you don't know what you're talking about you shouldn't be spouting off. Dress and deportment (D&D) has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the band contest. If two bands have the same "points", which isn't really accurate anymore since band contests are based on placings, then the contest goes to the band with the better ensemble score.

  • freemanator2000 is absolutely correct. Adjudication under RSPBA and ANAPBA member associations use the same basic rules for awarding band placings. In my experience when competing under RSPBA rules D&D awards tend to be given to the band that didn't place, but travelled the furthest. Under current EUSPBA rules D&D isn't even mentioned for pipe bands...only for DM & tenor drumming competitions.

  • I dont know anything about judging piping competitions but some of the guys are tapping their feet vigorously while others aren't at all. Looks sloppy.

  • I didn't look at everyone I would guess that the piper whose foot is moving is the Pipe Major - the others in the band are taking their que from him / her. As to previous post on the size of the band - at the top (Grade 1) you probably need about 30+ pipes and drums on the field to be competitive at events like the Worlds.

  • There are a few tapping there feet but as jerk off freemanator said, its not something judged. Generally only the Pipe Major Taps his foot. He does this to keep the band in tempo while the bass drummer looks at the Pipe Major's foot.

  • thank you very much for that useful info irish man!! I was wondering why he always tapes his feet, I guessed it but now I am sure!! :)

    Greetings from Türkiye!!

  • He taps his feet to keep time. He is the Pipe Major. It is his job to see that all pipers are together.

  • and one more thing; I want to play that enstrumant gayda(bagpipe) I would like to be able to play it very much. Is ıt hard to play it? I ask you, because your nick is irish"piper" :)

    Greetings from Türkiye

  • It doesn't have grade 5. It's Novice =P

    Great music.

  • It's generally accepted in America as grade 5. I'm lead snare in a grade 5 band.

Who, by the way, are Championship Supreme in the midwest!

    ...sorry for the random bragging.

  • Where's the Mid-West? haha. (I'm being serious lol)

Ah, In Scotland it's classed as Novice =)

  • Um...no. RSPBA Novice is a juvenile band ranking...Unless things have changed recently. The RSPBA has more grades than the ANAPBA. RSBPA ranks bands above juvenile ordinally as 4B, 4A, 3B, 3A, 2, and 1. ANAPBA ranks from 5->1. So, a non-juvenile U.S. Grade 5 band would enter an RSPBA competion as a Grade 4B band.

  • uuuhh huh?

  • In Pipe competitions, is the lower grade more advanced? like, I notice Grade 1. Cause in marching band, the higher the grade...generally the bigger and better the band. But I will never say that the huge bands are the best...just generally.

    Eirin Go Bragh!

  • In piping it goes grade 5 (the lowest) to grade 1 (the highest). Size doesn't play a part in how good they are, however higher grade bands (grade 2 and 1) *usually* consistently have more people playing on the field than lower grade bands.

  • Tradtionally, when saying "Ireland for ever"in Irish we spell it Erin Go Bragh.

  • Great stuff! Now, if only you had a video of Field Marshall Montgomery...

  • Here is a video of FMM at the 2001 world pipe band championships:
