I infact did exactly what you said, I started manufacturing things here in the US with only materials from the US, it makes the project cost alot and overall price is high, but the principle is worth the effort and what is funny like I said the buyers are not here in the US they are in Europe. take a look at TOPS knives and Bark River Knife and Tool. Made right her e in the USA. they are a little more expensive but the quality is there.

Some of the Marbles knives are still made in the USA and there are some KaBar knives made here too although importation is much more common with them.

Some, but then you run into a deeper issue that now they use materials that are imported. So if the steel, aluminum, screws, washers, plastic, and parts are made in China and assembled in the US. Is it an American product?

So they all have their hands dirty in this game, just because something has a US name on it does not mean that things are from the US, then when things have made in the USA, it also does not mean from material from the US.
