Anyone heard of the 7-speed DSG problem in Scirocco, Golf, Jetta and Tiguan?

The mechantronics & gearboxes of these cars keep failing and have to replaced. Is there a long term solution to this? :(

german cars are overrated. buy a renault megane rs instead. too many people grew up in the era when german cars were better, thing is not anymore but the image/reputation has stayed. buy japanese.....quality and at a fair price eg GTR!!!!

@East17A Because they screwed up and put the steering wheel on the wrong side, so now they are worried people will drive them backwards. 60s Bug is still the best, and I bet they still run.

@East17A because it wouldn't sell to the level of the Golf. And most Americans love their cushy big sedans and SUV's more than small hatchbacks. Its hard to change the minds of the people who are used to BIG ENGINE, BIG CAR, BIG EVERYTHING. In the end, profit comes before passion.

@daizmiester You are right, but i think people in Europe don't understand why americans like bigger cars and one reason is much of the US is rural and long trips in a really small car can be a bad experience for a family of 5. Also for interstate and highway a big engine can idle an still have enough power on tap to move the car without hesitation.

Ford is about to release the Focus ST in America. It is far cheaper and far more powerful than the VW GTI. Volkswagen of America's obsession with badge engineered Chrysler vans, mini Touregs and Elton John songs is about to blow up in their faces. @fanfinmiami Depends on which specific model and engine you buy. In terms of practicality the Golf is obviously better and comfort is very similar on both cars given that they share the same platform

@420achour The Alfa certainly doesn't drive better. The steering is more vague, the throttle is less responsive and there's nowhere to put your clutch foot when you're not using it. As for looks, well that's down to personal opinion and I personally think they both look great in their own way
