@FreakMeat74 It's not exactly ineffective considering pilots are trained to evade rockets that are locked on to them and not huge volleys and a large group like that would mean helicopters crashing into each other or failing because they can't concentrate on so many rockets so at least 1 is bound to hit a helicopter because no matter where they evade there's another few rockets coming at you from different angles

Marines job is to secure beach head and move in to kill all russians. Air assualt troops will provide cover and other side of island. Mission complete!

@forscenetc1 1989 didn't have UAVs etc. Though, your plan probably would work, you have to consider a couple of things. One, amassing an aircraft carrier with all the equipment you mentioned would take alot of time and strain alot resources. Resources that were tight, given the deployments to fight in Europe. Two, in the case that you did all of this, KGB would probably have launch the chemical weapon into the city by then.
