Maybe you could have just got all the gaurds attention, tell them that grey fox is getting away in one of the oblivion gates, pretend to go with them by half way. really man its not. if you look it up the developers said they based a lot of the landscape on travel photographs from NW europe. granted, some of the names are roman (thats actually a really good point) but the lack of things like chariots, spears and anything resembling the political environment of rome as well as the prevalence of horses, armored horses, and plate armor all indicate a medieval setting

I made a small MOD for myself. I was getting tired of shooting 15 arrows to actually kill someone, so now it only take 3 or 4 shots to kill, however your enemies also have the same weapons so you get killed with only 3 arrows shot at you.

That is not a spear, It's a shield used for blocking or at least it has the same function and purpose as a shield, I think it's called a defender and it comes with OOO  "Triple O's" Oblivion overhaul MOD.

Unfortunately the game does not work like that. If you just take the cowl off the solders will still attack you, as they still think you are the Gay Fox. You need to take the cowl off leave the game cell and then come back, only then will the solders recognize that you are not the Gay Fox.
