The concorde was designed to fly supersonic and had appropiate engines, turbojets, not good for slow speed and low altitudes, but best at the speed and altitude concorde operated at. Tu144 was based on T4 bomber, had turbofans with reheat, good at subsonic speeds, but requiring reheat to fly at supersonic speeds, with high fuel consumption. Both were stymied by the sudden increase increase in oil prices as they were about to go into production killing off their customers

7g in a Concorde? errrr, I'm sorry, which part of wikipedia told you that? Concorde can neither achieve that in aerobatics nor acceleration (a top fuel dragster, 8000HP, 0-400 MPH in less than 4 seconds, achieves about 5.4g of lateral accelaeration).

You might want to ask why AirFrance and BA didn't offer their passengers 'G'' suits?

The simple answer to who won the mach 2 airliner race is surely to consider who ran a commercial service without problems for 27 years??

i dont think just 1 vid showing the stats of these aircraft will settle which is the best. we should set up a race on fsx multiplayer for example, a race from london to nyc

the most famous route for supersonic airliners, both planes take off at the same time at heathrow, first to land at jfk airport first wins.

@robdcblaze1 I don't think that would be possible due to the fact that the TU-144 may need to stop for fuel (well depending on the varient as the varient featured in the video is that of the 'D' which is the most economical) The planes would probably get there at the same time if this varient was used due to similar speeds.

@WakeUpDummies yeah like you said, on paper its pretty similar to Concorde but we can't forget that this is based on the TU-144D which is the most efficient of all 144 models that were built... it stands no chance against Concorde with any other models! It's just a shame it wasnt given a chance really (neither was Concorde if you think about it) but thanks for the comment

@ConcordeCentral It really is a shame. I was lucky as a 15 year old kid back in 1985 to have the opportunity to climb aboard a Concorde. That was really cool I have to say. My parents knew one of the pilots. There were only 17 in the World at that time I believe. :)

(it is BAC right?) and they could have produced a concorde and something with imaculate aerodynamics that could fly the same distance as a Boeing 747 but at Mach 0.9-0.97 for cruise but still be able to fly say mach 1.2 over the sea??? its probably a ridiculous idea but it would have made sense to build a slower more efficient jet

I would say the Concorde, just a lot less extreme than the tu-144 and more suited for passenger travel. I think it looks better too. Tu-144 is still a nice plane though.

the concorde is better, better build quality and better saftey and pilot training, it was designed first but the TU-144 flew first because they rushed it and made it bad as a result

terrorists are what put concorde out of service, not the american that made it crash though

@BringEllisTheHoriZon yeah i think it was a mixture of fuel and 9/11 and also the crash (for the french) but that doesnt mean that BA had to get rid of Concorde, they could have at least let one or two fly and the others could be leased to other airlines or even do subsonic (mach 0.95) journeys elsewhere

@ConcordeCentral yeah, i know the fuel costs a lot but most people think it is retired because of the crash and thats simply not true, funnily enough, the test flight after the crash with all the saftey gear on was the day of the 9/11 attacks, and they didnt get much money after that because of all the regulars in the towers, its a shame

but yeah, willy walsh should have sold some to richard branson, but he is a greedy little irishman -_-

and BA got them for almost free!
