Barca99treble must have been at same Silcocks fair...was it Pendlebury!!!!!!! Also love your username. For some reason we played it at house we mobbed up for before games.
Had not got a clue what he was on about but we teens loved this back in the 70s. I still not sure what he is singing about: but then I only found out recently that "Longshot kicked the bucket" was about a race horse!
the kosmo club, broad street in bath, early 70's. ben sherman, levi staprest, harrington, brogues, dm's, crombie. best trend ever. we all wore it no matter WHAT creed or colour. all together. fab music, fab place, fab times x.
@noonyhead1 Great to here what you think about the old days .late 60s and early 70s skinheads and skinhead girls lived in the greatest era ever to be a teenager . The look that changed a generation.. the youth of today have no idea..... DM.S BEN SHERMAN.S LEVI.S BRACES........BROGUES . LOAFER.S . CROMBIES.. TWO TONE.S..FRED PERRY.S we looked fu??ing great.. SKINHEADS THE WORLD WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME....
@70tezskin they were the days mate, everything you said was the same in liverpool, we didnt give a toss about anything and skins stuck together no matter where they came from, CUM ON AMBROSE SLADE,happy days.
@ gtfc I agree with every thing you say . I was 16 in1970 my skinhead days are a time i..ll never forget . the clothes the music .the late 60.s and early 70 s was the greatest ever time to be a teenager .....SKINHEADS THE WORLD WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME...
Young ones of today haven't lived. It was great, and being a " true" skinhead of the late 60's early 70's in Grimsby was the proudest time of my life. Oh to do it all again. walking around wearing the "gear" was brill, we knew how to dress.
50's, 60's, and the 70's is where music played with instruments really bloomed. today its all auto-tune and done through a computer, half the people that sing you listen to cannot even sing live. The industry is a joke.
From where did they get WOOO; they sound like eastern US call letters. Was that from growing up in Jamaica? Or maybe a pirate station aimed at the UK?
PS: Should "rocksteady" also be a tag for this? I thought that was the term for the transition from ska to reggae.
Brings back memories of my crombie, sta press and ben sherman, southend, brighton, reggae, teds and football violence, way past that now, but those were great days,
Yeah i was listening to satellite radio on a road trip last week and kasey kasem was on and playing the top 40 of 1971 and this came on,jesus i damn near went off the road i was so excited to hear it.I remember hearing it for the first time around 77-78,and didnt know it came out in 71,cewl man i like it.
@tigermoth13 That is bizarre ! because I always think of '69, but another comment says '71. So maybe my head isn't as faded-out as I had thought - or maybe it is!
Love, love ,love and love forever this absolute classic, this is a worm in my head, constantly repeating itself ,in my brain, someone please shoot me before I go mad,I am too much in love, with this
Dave Barker (born David John Crooks, 10 October 1947 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a session vocalist[1], and Ansell Collins (born 1949, also in Kingston) is a keyboard player.[2] They were working for producer Lee "Scratch" Perry in Kingston in the late 1960s, and joined forces in 1971, for the ska single "Double Barrel". Released by Techniques Records, part of the Trojan Records label, it topped the Jamaican and UK charts in March of that year.[
this is still the joint!!! word on the street is Dave Barker(the magnificent) just recorded a song with flex1 from Ladbroke Groves Mighty Ethnicz(any rydim-Tuff gong, harmony hall-Laylow records..)this should be interesting.any one heard it? we waitin.
I thought that I had dreamed up this song, it was on my mind since 1971.( I was turning 18 )
I only heard it for about a week in Los Angeles radio in the spring of that year, as I drove back and forth to Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach from Huntington Park
in those classic surfer days....GREAT memories......I thought I would never hear this again, especially at age 54... Incredible what the internet can acomplish...Sierra Cuban, Miami, Florida
A fine example of reggae rhythm and pioneering rap lyrical styling. This brings back 1971 memories of listening to the radio while driving down some lonesome, two-lane, state highway with the setting sun flickering through the trees.
I remembered this song (Title) since it came out back in the 70's, thanks to the internet I have found it once again. That is over 35 years of remembering a song title from hearing only once on AM radio on a Saturday morning with Kasey Kasem top 20 countdown.
