so while smoke your weed, and think of how everything sounds amazing! how original! some people are scoffing. and apparently, you didn't care when you decided to call yourself "cockardo" either.
I never argued that they were original. I also never argued about the classification of their music. I enjoy their music, the genre is irrelevant.
I'm a musician and a photographer and a painter, I'm plenty informed on music and art, thank you.
No, I did not care when I created the username 'cockardo'. You know why? Because it simply doesn't matter. If you can't joke about the small things then shit, man, you've got to be a pretty fucking dull person.
you know, cockardo, it's so easy to say.. "frankly i don't care, i don't care..." after trying to argue some point about the classification of this music. do you know they play them on world cafe? and so no one does really care. no one often cares when people just take from what no one pays attention to and then takes credit for it.
it simply becomes gimmicky when it pretends to reference influences ethnocentrically. you don't think they're played on world cafe on kcrw? of course they are. i just think they sound silly and they may not be taken seriously by what they try to pass off as interesting. i'm glad you enjoy them. it may help to become a bit more informed though. art and music isn't just about ripping off things you like from cultures. there's a certain respect, ya know?
oh and by the way, did you know that "bitte orca" is deutsch. ja! und was noch? "stillness is the move" has west african influences. is that not world music? in spite all of the mention of steely dan and such, that's what i hear. forgive me, i moved out of the brookies years ago.
If you know they're from brooklyn I don't understand why you think listeners of world music would consider them stupid. Despite any influences, I'm quite sure that they can easily recognise that this is not world music.
Frankly I don't care, I enjoy the music regardless of whatever it is they or other people think they are.
don't get me wrong, i love bjork, but i really don't get the dirty projectors collaborations. the guy sounds like jeff buckley. lyrically, they're trite. they seem to lack the originality their credited with. i think most people who appreciate world music would consider them daft. i'm not a fan at all. bjork i shall still follow loyally.
@cockardo i remember when they came out into the scene. i'm all too familiar with "indie rock" scene there, and before then back in the days of williamsburg, yada yada... it's so played out. world folk becomes new terrain. if you haven't noticed, in spite of all they're credited for in their "influences" kiss-ass collaborations, it's all bullshit. folk it up. there's nothing new.
@lessonsoftoday I know. She shoulda made an album to raise money by herself. She doesn't need the Dirty Projectors! I hope Bjork DOES make a new album. I lvoe her music so much, every album is so different from its predecessor. My two favorites are Homogenic and Vespertine.
@lessonsoftoday Think what you may. Bjork only collaborates with people she respects highly. The part where they are making the 'ahh' sound is not haphazard singing; it may sound harsh to some, but it is still very orchestrated and purposeful, like all songs by DP. I must say, though, that there are times where it has been more effective, like on the songs "Beautiful Mother" and "Useful Chamber".
Also, Volta was absolutely awful! Homogenic and Vespertine are classics, and I adore Medulla.
@MusicalEutopia i agree. I'm a big Björk fan and i was a little iffy to hear them work with Dirty Projectors, but to find this at all to be cacophonous or harsh. DP has a very nice range for a voice.
but i will NOT agree with you that Volta was a bad album. shame on you! Volta was amazing!
@NeonFoxLetsPlays yeah exactly. volta was just another album showcasing bjork's versatility. the fact that she worked with timbaland just shows she's up for anything and can make anything sound good.
@NeonFoxLetsPlays so true. bjork is just fucking awesome like that. who else can make an electronica-esque album and then turn around do one with absolutely no instruments, just the human voice? i cannot WAIT to hear her next album!! eek!
@bjorkismyhomie yeah it should be great. but in the meantime she will be appearing on Antony's album Swanlights and also be part of a scientific musical with Gondry that will be in IMAX.
@MusicalEutopia oh come on. Volta was not "absolutely awful". it's my least favorite of hers, but that's like saying having $1 million is worse than having $2 million. sure the $2 million is better, but I'd still like the $1 million lol.
@MusicalEutopia Volta wasn't awful, you just don't like it. Björk was doing what she wanted to do, and nothing less. She did Volta because she was going for something spontaneous, adventurous, and she was tired of being on the ground, so she went out to sea, and went to see AFRICA. Hence the African theme, Afro-beats, and tribal feel of the album. Go see her interviews/podcasts, she explains. She basically attempted not doing a concept album, but in the end, she got a concept...
@lessonsoftoday Listen to the other songs before you judge it, and Volta is probably the worst album to credit Bjork for when everything else is just way stronger.
@ilovesteves why do you say Volta was bad? I love it. She uses her voice so powerfully on it especially in Vertebrae by Vertebrae and Wanderlust! It reminds me of Homogenic in a way! Just because you don't like it doesn't make it the worst album she has. "Everyone" loved Vespertine. Not me, I would much rather hear Medulla or Volta or Post! I like some songs from Vespertine, but didn't care for the album in general. I'm not going to call Vespertine her worst album just because I didn't like it.
@razrv3lc I just prefer her older stuff, it's more unique and original, thats all. Medulla, Post and Homogenic are all my favourite albums.
When I said stronger I meant to me I feel everything is more pure... I felt like Volta it wasn't as genuine... but thats just me.
All I'm saying is, I credit Bjorks concept albums, and her very sparodic and vast spectrum of styles. - these are all more apparent in the earlier stuff to me.
- not saying Volta is bad, it's just I don't think it's her best.
so while smoke your weed, and think of how everything sounds amazing! how original! some people are scoffing. and apparently, you didn't care when you decided to call yourself "cockardo" either.

These singers know EXACTLY what they're doing.
Saw them live last night and every note they sang was bang on.
