Love the record player ,it s vintage stuff , kids today don t even know what a phonograph is let alone what 45s were .A GREAT SONG ,it brings back alot of memories THANKS
Written by the GREAT Jimmy Webb, and performed flawlessly by the late, GREAT, one and only John Mastrangelo, a.k.a. Johnny Maestro. Rest in peace, Johnny. We'll miss you!
I listened to, and enjoyed the entire playlist. I am also curious to hear the b-side of wild flower. I had that album and really liked 2 songs on it. I had the 45 too, but can't remember what the b-side was. I should go through my 45's and see which ones i still have. I had forgotten "Billy don't be a Hero," but really liked it, once upon a time. Peace!!
There was a girl I was in love with when I was in college, who fell in love with one of my best friends...and this song speaks directly to how I felt at the time...and although I wasn't even alive yet in 1969 when this song was released, its poignancy has transcended the years and to this day when I hear it, I become emotional...what an amazing song this is...and I am going to see Johnny Maestro next month at Southampton College
Billy Vera, Johnny Maestro, Frankie Vali and many many more, Italiano crooners are the BEST! This vocal is one of the most original sounding and best of its time, the late 60's. Turned teen at this time and I wanted to live it lol.
I can identify with you.....I still think about the one I lost 35 years ago.....we were both so young, but I did love her so. When I hear this song, it reminds me of when I found out she was marrying someone else.
Thank you, Princes. She was a beautiful woman but lost out on a good man. People who put more value on who you are instead of what you are, are not worth the trouble. Still, I remember her fondly.
Thanks for the comment back, RonEvane. Again, I am sorry things didn't work out between you and this lady. I hope you can heal and put it behind you someday. Hope you have found or will find someone new and wonderful to make you happy. Good luck. :)
I sure did find a good woman, Princess. We've been married for almost 23 years now and I wouldn't trade her for anyone on this earth, not even the one who rejected me. Happiness is based on mutual respect and caring for one-another, not how much money he/she may have. I doubt she's as happy as I today.
yess yess greg this is surely the best that could happen the awesome voice of johnny magic man maestro the best voice in doowop n rock n roll ty for this hope there r many more to come

This cover version is a close copy of the
Fifth Dimension's original version. The version by the 5th Dimension segues into "Wedding Bell Blues"

I saw JM/BB do this live at the Big E in Springfield, Mass, back in the late '70's. I was in my mid-teens at the time. I'll always love this song.

My love left me and married someone else. I was poor and she wanted more than what I could offer. After 25 years, It still hurts so bad....

I am so, so sorry, stearmanflyer55. (I am back b/c I received a response from RonEvane and I noticed your heartbreaking story, also).
Stay strong, not always but usually first loves don't work out anyway. Trust yourself to love again, you're worth it.

Yes, indeed. Anyone who thinks status equals a good man or woman, is in for a great let-down. Just listen to what this song says.
