@Shudda97 You mean one from the company who made my sisters laptop? That thing's sreen had a humongous streak on it from it getting hit on the other side of the screen. It was literally a huge gray, blue and red thing that was INSIDE the screen. Just from tapping it.

i love asus computers and i love this laptop. my brother got it and i really like the design and it comes with some pretty good specs. do you know of any asus laptops that come with a newer processor (i series?) and a 1 gig video card because i want to be able to play some good games in high quality and do school work, and other stuff at once. any suggestions haha ?
ANYONE PLEASE MSG ME WHERE IN SODOMY I CAN GET THIS LAPTOP IN THE UK!!! .... DO THEY EVEN SELL THESE OVER HERE .. ANYONE FROM THE UK GOT ONE OF THESE? OR THE UL80JT? .. I HAVE ALSO SEEN ON AMAZON 3RD PARTY UK CHARGER FOR THIS
can anyone tell me what the difference is between ul80vt-a2 and UL80VT-A1 (the last 2 characters? a1 ... or a2 etc? are they slight differences in spec or color or versions? thanks)
@quadron117 thanks i thought it was something simple like that i just wanted to make sure... another question is at the moment on many uk shopping sites this laptops price vary's greatly.... are there 2 processors in this laptop? (ie 1 procesor with 2 cores and another processor with a solo core?) that it switches between? .... as some sites say that the 80vt has 1.2 ghz and some say that it has 1.4ghz (obviously it changes / steps) but it seems like there is a 1.2 ghz celeron in there also
This is great. I tried to fine a laptop that can play TF2, so I'll try and but this laptop.
But I have a question,I read the reviews on the website and I wonder, when playing TF2 on this laptop, is there something I need to watch for like the FPS or something cause I don't want to make the same mistake as I did buying a laptop and installing TF2. I couldn't even played it because I realised I bought a different laptop on accident. So this Asus can play TF2 well, but anything I need to watch for
@HeyItsJonaveil i've read comments at Amazon web site and they say it can run at mid-high graphics without problems also counter strike source very smooth but u may want to take a look....this machine looks pretty good for the price:D
Hello there I m looking for a notebook/netbook with a Nv GPU, ethoir by ion or other...for around £400, which has got a bit of a attuide for gaming, would this be better than the 1201 N ?
@deathspeed1 UL80Vt performance is much better than 1201N. G210M is much better than ION and the CPU, even if you have the cheaper celeron version, is much better than the atom N330. 3DMark06 score is nearly 3x higher. Of course UL80Vt is bigger and weighs more.
I see that many people have underestimated CULV Intel CPU's I guess, they haven't had one in their hands, I have a Timline 4810TZ SU4100 comparable to this ASUS which uses the SU7300, both have 2 cores, and are the faster CPU's I've tested in my life, I have an expensive desktop using a Pentum D (2 Cores 2.8Ghz) with NVidia 8600GTS card and it runs much slower than my ultraportable, the technology is advancing fast.
@expertlaptopreview thanks I'll look into it, hopefully u can save enough money for it from my summer job. I'm only 16 now but if I'm buying a laptop I would want something to last me even until college, not just for music. The envy is all metal and upgradable so it seems reasonable
Is this good for music production? If not then can anyone suggest an affordble laptop for that purpose? My desktop is waaaaaaaaaaaay too slow to even run iTunes properly -_-
@krazikris93@krazikris93 I would recommend mid-level laptops from HP. I'd check out the Envy 14 (starts at $999, but could be gotten cheaper with a good coupon, around $750) that is going to be released in about a month (mid-June). If you don't mind getting a larger laptop, go for a nice mid-size 15" or 16" screen with an i5 or i7 processor. Just try to stay away from poorly constructed plastic laptops (sometimes plastic works, depends on the laptop.) Good luck!
@krazikris93 If you desktop can not even run itunes it has some serious problems or it is very old. If you desktop is that bad you will be blown away by this laptop
@jmccomas2010 If you want to hear something kind of funny, then just listen up here. I've got an HP pavilion zv5200. Not the greatest computer or anymore, but a top of the line one back in the day. It's now 7 years old and running as strong as my moms 1 year old computer. I love my computer and I refuse to get rid of it. It used to run windows xp, but I recently switched to ubuntu linux to try and speed it up, which it did. So a computer being old doesn't necessarily mean it will be slow.
Try getting anything basline, or a very basic computer. like from Staples or FutureShop and tell me if you can but the graphics to 128mb on the video card. Depending on teh type of onboard video card, you can do anything. You don't have to buy a single expensive vide0-editing computer.
Great review! I am thinking of buying this notebook but the only thing that is worrying me is the ULV processor. I use my PC for alot of live streaming HD video, web browsing, photo editing and also for movies. Will the processor be able to handle those stuff, or will it start slowing down a year after a buy it? Thanks
@invazn89 This laptop can definitely handle mass effect 2. My friend is playing ME2 on a laptop with the same G210m graphics card only his has 256Mb of video RAM whereas this as 512Mb of video ram.
I just bought this laptop. The laptop makes a chirping noise whenever hard drive is read. The problem is that the noise is louder than other laptops I have had in the past. Is this noise normal for this laptop? I read on some websites that the HDD is bit noisy but not sure if they are talking about spinning noise or disk read noise. Please help.
ul30 is 13 inch and much lighter and cute. But you have to loose the Vram or pay lot of extra for the latest one with Vram. I dont know of dm3 but look on the internet and you can see Asus in way better than hp in general.
I just got this. But if you can wait , see if you can get the 13 inch with VRam at this price. :)
Call Asus and see what they say. It could either be a software issue or a hardware issue. It's probably a hardware issue since you restored your laptop (did you reformat it? or just restore it to a backup?). I would try reformating it by reinstalling Windows 7. If that doesn't work, I'd call Asus because some component is gltiching (memory probably) and is thus causing your laptop to freeze/crash/shut down.
It's not about the laptop that's for sure...It's about Windows 7...Everytime i use the laptop after 20 min.. The files doesn't respond then the whole desktop freezes...What should i do???..This laptop Comes with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
kind of a toss up between this and the studio 14z. I can get the 14z for 799 versus the 849 this is listed for on newegg. Similar specs but this has an optical drive and has longer battery life. The audio and screen on the studio are amazing though. Anyone mind pitching in which I should go for? Will do some mild gaming on it like Dragon Age and WoW and whatnot.
I'd say to go for the UL80VT, however buy it from Amazon rather than Newegg. Amazon has it for $820 with free 5-9 day shipping (if you get their 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, like I did, you can upgrade to next day shipping for $4! Definitely worth it to me.).
According to Notebookcheck, the 210M beats the 9400M by almost 2000 on 3DMark06, and the power options giving you potentially 10 hours of battery life is a huge plus.
All up to you, just thought I should throw in my two cents.
thanks for the input! I went w/ the dell due to an employee discount saving me a net worth of 440 bucks. :)
I remember seeing some bench marks on a reliable site stating the 9400m was better and that. Saw the UL80 running some games and the user was experiencing frame rate issues. Not sure if the GPU was the bottleneck though.
I bought this laptop for my wife a few days ago and we absolutely love it. I agree with everything Brandon mentioned in his review, except for that squeak by the touch pad. Mine thankfully doesn't suffer from that issue (at least yet, lol). It even out performs my full Core2Duo notebook, making me wish I had bought it for myself.
Overall it is great for anyone looking for a more portable laptop that can handle some moderate gaming (Sims 3/Oblivion max settings = Win).
I'm currently running it at everything max except for AA, that's only at 2x, and detail lots at 3 (don't care to see more than that, but higher numbers shouldn't affect it too much). 1366x768 resolution.
Honestly my only complaints are that is it a bit of a fingerprint magnet and that the AC adapter can get quite hot (when the brick is sitting inches from your legs, you tend to brush up against it pretty often).
does this laptop freeze or anything cause my HPdv6000 freezez a lot when the Hard drive light is on. since this is low procesor does it freeze or lag or go ereally slow a lot? cause i want battery life but i want something that doesnt freeze when im switching windows.
nah my brother did a check on it and its not damaged. this Hp dv6000 to me is kinda a piece of shit. no offence to anyone who likes HP. i personally hate HP so yeah
I still dont understand...How come other laptop brands are becoming more popular than asus....I mean..Asus made the first 3d gaming notebook and great motherboards....
my laptop is asus f80L..its 2008 model(old already.T_T) can i change its battery because it only gives me just 3 hours..can i change it to have 10 hours?
The F80L isn't an ultra portable, so your best bet is to buy an extra battery. You can't just set up a laptop to have 10 hr battery life, you have to have a ULV processor, a low voltage HDD, LED display, etc...
you cant have like 12 horu battery life unless you have a low voltage battery, and basically weak parts. most gaming computers dont last long cause they are so powerful. notebooks usually last like 3 hours cause they have average parts this one has a kinda weak processor and weak graphics in powersaver mode. so yeah
The Toshiba will be a little bit better in performance, but you won't get nearly as much battery life (even with 2 batteries), a bad warranty (1 year vs 2 year + Accidental Damage Warranty), and a little less build quality.
I bought the Lenovo T510 i5 intel processor, 9 cell battery - 8 to 10 hour battery life, 3GB DDR3 SDRAM, 250 GB hard drive, Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 the best wireless adapter available! People don't realize why they are getting kicked offline, its because they have a shitty factory wireless adapter!
Hey i have 2 questions....i read some reviews including yours saying the display is not that great because of the colors being a bit washed out and contrast not so good so i was wondering if you were reviewing the laptop with the 210m on? I'm hoping you didn't and that it would make a difference. Also you think this will be enough to run starcraft 2 on max?
I haven't quite figured out exactly if the SU7300 is automatically overclocked when you turn it on. I believe it is. Either way, I went into the bios and turned it on shortly after receiving the laptop. So, yes, I was reviewing the oc'd to 1.73 ghz in my benchmarks.
hey in the review i saw some sorta lcd panel near power button with purple writings im not sure if it was just a sticker or an actual lcd panel like the ones in gaming laptops that shows the clock or wateva
if so what can it do and how many colours do it have ?
i have one question. what is the software for the mousepad? my friend in school has an Asus U80A and he has Elan touch pad. but i checked in bestbuy at some of Asus gaming laptops and it had synaptics V7. can you make yur own mousepad gestures.

what is the difference between AG and VT?
UL80AG and UL80VT
jk4Him 2 years ago
the ul80vt comes with 2 switchable graphics cards, whereas the ul80ag only has the onboard chip. aside from that there are no differences afaik

VT uses a switchable Geforce G210M (aka the Geforce 310M / 9300M G/ 8400M GS .. cuz nvidia likes to rename old products)

Waiting for this to be available in Europe.

why is the processor so shit
352films 2 years ago
@352films The "UL" tag means it's supposed to be a high-battery-life model. Thus, the CPU.

it would be great if u did a comparison of this laptop and the ul30 and hp dm3
timothyln12 2 years ago
ul30 is 13 inch and much lighter and cute. But you have to loose the Vram or pay lot of extra for the latest one with Vram. I dont know of dm3 but look on the internet and you can see Asus in way better than hp in general.
I just got this. But if you can wait , see if you can get the 13 inch with VRam at this price. :)

Hey brandon...
My laptop freezes every 20 times a day...What's up with that...i have to like restore my laptop and its taking long
branjobu96 2 years ago
Call Asus and see what they say. It could either be a software issue or a hardware issue. It's probably a hardware issue since you restored your laptop (did you reformat it? or just restore it to a backup?). I would try reformating it by reinstalling Windows 7. If that doesn't work, I'd call Asus because some component is gltiching (memory probably) and is thus causing your laptop to freeze/crash/shut down.
expertlaptopreview 2 years ago
It's not about the laptop that's for sure...It's about Windows 7...Everytime i use the laptop after 20 min.. The files doesn't respond then the whole desktop freezes...What should i do???..This laptop Comes with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
branjobu96 2 years ago
Sounds like a problem with the Hard Drive, call Asus.
quadron117 2 years ago
@branjobu96 My asus laptop freezred also 20 times a day. I fix the problem by installing windows 7 to my computer.

kind of a toss up between this and the studio 14z.
Blythe31 2 years ago
I'd say to go for the UL80VT, however buy it from Amazon rather than Newegg. Amazon has it for $820 with free 5-9 day shipping (if you get their 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, like I did, you can upgrade to next day shipping for $4! Definitely worth it to me.).
According to Notebookcheck, the 210M beats the 9400M by almost 2000 on 3DMark06, and the power options giving you potentially 10 hours of battery life is a huge plus.
All up to you, just thought I should throw in my two cents.
mentaloasis 2 years ago
I still dont understand how G210M became a class 3 GPU...
branjobu96 2 years ago
thanks for the input!
Blythe31 2 years ago
Wow! That's one hell of a discount, lol. Good choice then. Enjoy your awesome new laptop ^_^

Overall it is great for anyone looking for a more portable laptop that can handle some moderate gaming (Sims 3/Oblivion max settings = Win).
mentaloasis 2 years ago
It can play sims 3 on full max???
branjobu96 2 years ago
I'm currently running it at everything max except for AA, that's only at 2x, and detail lots at 3 (don't care to see more than that, but higher numbers shouldn't affect it too much). 1366x768 resolution.
Honestly my only complaints are that is it a bit of a fingerprint magnet and that the AC adapter can get quite hot (when the brick is sitting inches from your legs, you tend to brush up against it pretty often).
mentaloasis 2 years ago
Can you try running it With EVERY settings at max....Is it smooth...And My complaints are the Creaking palmrest...But ill get used to it though =)

I still dont understand...How come other laptop brands are becoming more popular than asus....I mean..Asus made the first 3d gaming notebook and great motherboards....

they also made one of the first netbooks (eee)
who said other laptops are becoming more popular

Hi...one question....
Is the Keyboard Sooo bad youll have to take a refund???....Im not a typist but im just asking
branjobu96 2 years ago
my laptop is asus f80L..its 2008 model(old already.T_T) can i change its battery because it only gives me just 3 hours..can i change it to have 10 hours?
weward 2 years ago
The F80L isn't an ultra portable, so your best bet is to buy an extra battery. You can't just set up a laptop to have 10 hr battery life, you have to have a ULV processor, a low voltage HDD, LED display, etc...
MrXax8 2 years ago
yeah i was gonna say same thing as MrXax
you cant have like 12 horu battery life unless you have a low voltage battery, and basically weak parts. most gaming computers dont last long cause they are so powerful. notebooks usually last like 3 hours cause they have average parts this one has a kinda weak processor and weak graphics in powersaver mode. so yeah

around 10 on power saving mode, 5ish with high performance. Either way it blows the competition out of the water.

The Toshiba will be a little bit better in performance, but you won't get nearly as much battery life (even with 2 batteries), a bad warranty (1 year vs 2 year + Accidental Damage Warranty), and a little less build quality.
035577 2 years ago
I bought the Lenovo T510 i5 intel processor, 9 cell battery - 8 to 10 hour battery life, 3GB DDR3 SDRAM, 250 GB hard drive, Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 the best wireless adapter available! People don't realize why they are getting kicked offline, its because they have a shitty factory wireless adapter!

let me say this, when u do keyboard review, always show the enter, shift and backspace keys. its important to see the size of these three keys.

Hey Brandon, i was wondering if you got the laptop back with your question about the squeaking noise answered?
If so, was there anything wrong with it? Or is that just how it is?
Thanks, and great review :)

Did you get the laptop back?
LazyTeenz 2 years ago
Hey i have 2 questions....i read some reviews including yours saying the display is not that great because of the colors being a bit washed out and contrast not so good so i was wondering if you were reviewing the laptop with the 210m on? I'm hoping you didn't and that it would make a difference. Also you think this will be enough to run starcraft 2 on max?

I assume you reviewed the su7300 at 1.3 ghz rather than oc'd to 1.7?
nicnash08 2 years ago
I haven't quite figured out exactly if the SU7300 is automatically overclocked when you turn it on. I believe it is. Either way, I went into the bios and turned it on shortly after receiving the laptop. So, yes, I was reviewing the oc'd to 1.73 ghz in my benchmarks.
expertlaptopreview 2 years ago
I figured the overclocking feature out. Yes, the computer is automatically OC'd to 1.73 ghz.

hey in the review i saw some sorta lcd panel near power button with purple writings im not sure if it was just a sticker or an actual lcd panel like the ones in gaming laptops that shows the clock or wateva
if so what can it do and how many colours do it have ?
123ali456gholi789did 2 years ago
I believe the screen is the standard 32-Bit, which is muchos colors.
expertlaptopreview 2 years ago
There is no LCD panel near the power button. It must have been a sticker. :)

i have one question. what is the software for the mousepad? my friend in school has an Asus U80A and he has Elan touch pad. but i checked in bestbuy at some of Asus gaming laptops and it had synaptics V7. can you make yur own mousepad gestures.
Takashi8520 2 years ago
It's an ELAN pad. You can customize the touchpad functions for two-finger tap/three-finger tap, etc. You can't do custom gestures though.
quadron117 2 years ago
ah ok, thnx
Takashi8520 2 years ago
its an Elan
